What router do you get with Vodafone broadband?

Vodafone currently offers the Power Hub or Ultra Hub 7 to all new customers.

Existing customers may still have the Vodafone Intelligent WiFi Hub or Ultra Hub, which have been succeeded by the Power Hub and Ultra Hub 7 respectively.

The newest Ultra Hub 7 is part of the Vodafone Pro 3 Broadband package. It’s a full fibre-only router that delivers impressive speeds of up to 2.2 Gbps upload and download.

Vodafone doesn’t explicitly demand returns, but may request one when:

  • You cancel your contract
  • You damage the device
  • You’re switching providers

Fees for non-return: £99 (Power Hub) / £199 (Ultra Hub 7)
You’ll be sent a pre-paid envelope if return is required.

Call 08080 034515 or 191 from a Vodafone mobile to check.

How can I improve the Wi-Fi signal of my Vodafone router?

Even with Wi-Fi 6 or 7, some homes will need a boost. Try these tips:

Position the device in the centre of the home. Wi-Fi uses radio waves to provide connectivity. Placing it in the centre of the home means the signal doesn’t have so far to go and everyone should get a strong signal.

Avoid placing it close to appliances: Any electrical appliance produces interference that can compromise wireless speeds. Avoid placing the router next to large appliances like refrigerators or air conditioning units.

Check the Wi-Fi channel: Use a Wi-Fi analyser app to check what channels are busiest in your home. Select a channel that isn’t busy and change the Wi-Fi channel 1-2 channels up or down from the least busy.

Use a Wi-Fi extender: If you don’t have the Ultra Hub 7, you can purchase standalone super Wi-Fi boosters that plug into a wall socket to boost the signal.

Use a mesh kit: Alternatively, mesh kits can create a larger, more powerful wireless network with the addition of an extra router and Wi-Fi boosters.

Use a powerline adapter: Powerline adapters plug into a wall socket and turn your home’s wiring into a network. Place one close to the router and connect it. Place the other close to where you need it and connect that to your desktop or laptop.

Are the Vodafone Hubs good value for money?

Yes – you get a decent router for free with your broadband plan:

  • Ultra Hub 7 is free with Pro 3 packages
  • Power Hub is free with all other broadband plans
  • Up to 3 additional Super WiFi 6E boosters can be added at no cost

The routers are reliable, easy to use, and require little maintenance.

What are the standout features of Vodafone routers?

Vodafone Hubs offer decent average download speeds using part fibre or full fibre broadband. They’ve proven themselves reliable and deliver the consistent performance we look for.

There’s also the Vodafone Broadband app that helps you to monitor your network, create guest networks and provide a QR code to help people connect.

It’s a smart app that’s worth installing if you’re a broadband customer.

Can I keep my Vodafone router if I have to move and downgrade my broadband?

Yes, you can keep your Vodafone router if you move or downgrade either superfast or ultrafast full fibre broadband plans.

There is currently no information on whether you’ll keep the Vodafone Ultra Hub if you downgrade the Vodafone Pro 3 packages, though. You’ll need to discuss this with Vodafone’s customer service.

Can I use my own router with Vodafone?

Yes, you can use your own router as long as you don’t use Digital Voice (VoIP) in replacement of a standard home phone.

The device has to be approved by BT Openreach, and you’ll still need to use the Vodafone device to connect, but you can connect a third-party router to that.
