Understanding broadband only deals
A “broadband only” deal is a package that doesn’t include TV, home phone, or mobile calls and data.
These packages are great if you want to get online quickly and cheaply. You won't pay for add-ons you don't need.
These deals are ideal for:
- Budget-conscious users who don’t want to pay for TV or phone services
- Small households that simply want a fast and reliable internet connection
- Those who prefer to use mobile phones for calls or want to a separate TV subscription

How to choose the best deal
Before you change broadband services, think about the speed you need at home.
For more help, you can read our guide to broadband speeds. But here’s the general gist:

What contract lengths are available?
Many larger providers now only offer 24-month broadband contracts. But shorter 18-month, 12-month deals and 30 day contracts are also available, usually from smaller providers.
Shorter contracts tend to be pricier per month, or include a set-up fee.
Are there any hidden costs?
Watch for price hikes during the contract. Check for setup fees and add-ons. These can raise the total cost. We will highlight these in the ‘Full Details’ dropdown on our comparison tables.
You can find out more about this in our ‘guide to price increases in 2026’.
Get rewarded when you switch
Many providers have great switching incentives for new broadband customers.
You can regularly get a gift card or bill credit when you sign up. These can sometimes be very high value and over £150.
Most gift cards come with a choice of retailers. BT, EE and Plusnet offer Reward Cards. These are pre-paid Mastercards.
Full Fibre packages tend to offer higher rewards. We highly recommend moving to a full fibre deal if you can.

What's 'full fibre' broadband?
Full fibre is a fast broadband service. It uses reliable fibre optic technology.
Unlike standard fibre broadband, it doesn’t rely on older copper wire for any part of its data journey.
Much faster download and upload speeds are possible.

Genie Tip: Always think about set-up costs. Check the contract length.
Don’t forget special offer discounts, like gift cards or vouchers. This is the best way to weigh up the true cost of your deal. We make this easy by showing the ‘Effective Monthly Cost’.

FAQs
-
Can I get broadband only in my area?
Almost all homes in the UK have access to a wide selection of broadband only providers and packages.
-
Can I get broadband without a phone line?
Full fibre deals and services from Virgin Media don’t require a phone line at all.
If full fibre isn’t available at your home, you will likely need an active phone line.
You’ll know this if your comparison results only show deals with broadband speeds up to around 67Mb from providers on the Openreach network.
You don’t need a fixed line if you sign up to a mobile home broadband service, such as Three’s 4G or 5G Home Broadband service.
