Home Broadband deals in York
All areas in and around York are enabled for fibre optic broadband. But whether you can get a full fibre broadband service or not will depend on your home.
Most York residents should be able to get access to average speeds of around 65Mb, with a regular Openreach network telephone line and 1Gb on the Virgin Media network.
By the end of 2024, the hope is that almost every home and business in the York area will also have access to CityFibre's full fibre network.

What is Openreach?
Openreach is the company that maintains the former British Telecom Network used for the majority of broadband and phone services. If a repair or installation is required, it’s Openreach who will send an engineer, not your provider.
More than 650 service providers using the Openreach network. That’s the majority of the UK’s broadband providers. This includes Sky, TalkTalk and BT. The exception to this is Virgin Media - it uses its own, separate cable network.
As part of the BDUK project to deliver gigabit broadband (speeds of 1Gb+) to at least 85% of the population, Superfast West Yorkshire is supervising the rollout of gigabit connections in the area. This is mainly focused on neglected rural locations, but York itself is already well ahead of the curve; it aims to be the UK's first 'gigabit city'.

Comparing mobile broadband in York
York generally has excellent 4G and 5G coverage on EE, Three, O2, and Vodafone in both the centre of the city and outlying areas such as Haxby, Stockton on the Forest, Dunnington, Bishopthorpe, and Skelton. All networks report that indoor coverage should be accessible to the outskirts, but may perhaps be limited to outdoors elsewhere.
York also has an ever-growing 5G network, with O2 offering the best coverage in the area. However, connectivity may be patchy outside of central areas.
