BT existing customer deals: should you renew or upgrade?

If you’re nearing the end of your BT broadband contract, your monthly cost might change. Many customers let their contract roll on. But in doing so, this often means paying more for the same broadband package.

This guide explains

  • how existing BT customer deals work
  • how to check your renewal price
  • what type of upgrade option you might see
  • how to save if you’re facing a price rise.

We’ve been helping the UK compare broadband for over 20 years, so you’re in safe hands.

Key points at a glance:

  • BT shows personalised renewal deals and upgrade offers in your MyBT online account
  • Check your upgrade options around 3 months before your contract end date
  • Upgrading to a full fibre broadband package could be cheaper than staying on your old plan
  • Your price may rise when you are out of contract, and again every April
  • Not happy with your renewal offer? You can easily compare alternatives and switch home broadband services
  • Renewal and upgrade choices depend on whether full fibre is available in your area

How to check your BT renewal offer

To see your personalised BT broadband upgrade offer:

  1. Log in to MyBT.

  2. Go to “Your Products”.

  3. Check your renewal offer or upgrade message.

  4. If nothing shows, you may still be in contract, or too early for a deal.

Examples of what you might see include:

  • a lower price if you renew for another 24 months
  • a price that matches what you pay now
  • a loyalty offer
  • a full fibre upgrade option
  • bundled add-ons such as EE TV packages, home phone plans or BT Wi-Fi extenders

If you don’t like the deal shown, you don’t have to accept.

BT upgrade deals for existing customers

You might get better value and performance if you upgrade to full fibre.

Customers on BT Fibre 1 or BT Fibre 2 might be able to double their broadband speeds. This needn't be an expensive upgrade.

Other benefits can include:

  • faster upload speeds
  • improved Wi-Fi router for better coverage around your home
  • improved reliability for streaming and home working, even at peak times

Tip: The UK is preparing to phase out older landlines. There are currently plenty of competitive deals and prices on full fibre packages. Switching may also give you extra savings.

See our guide to BT Full Fibre broadband for coverage and average speeds.

Price rises for existing BT broadband customers

BT increases many broadband prices every April. Your monthly cost will get pricier over time. Your bill will continue to increase after your contract ends unless you renew or switch.

What to do:

  1. Check your renewal offer
  2. Compare deals using Broadband Genie’s postcode checker
  3. Look at alternative broadband packages if your price has risen beyond your budget
  4. Ask BT if you qualify for a discount or upgrade

Not happy with your BT renewal price?

If your MyBT renewal offer is higher than you were expecting, you should look into your options.

Take time to compare faster or cheaper broadband deals in your area. Use these prices to negotiate with BT, or switch providers.

FAQs about BT existing customer deals

  • Does BT give discounts to existing customers?

Yes, although it depends on the upgrade options available in your area. Full fibre packages are affordable, and also come with higher value rewards.

  • Can I lower my BT renewal price?

Sometimes. You may find a better deal by upgrading or comparing alternatives. BT may offer loyalty pricing near your contract end date.

  • Will BT match new customer prices?

Matches can happen, but it isn’t guaranteed. BT may offer an upgrade instead.

  • How early can I renew with BT?

Most customers can renew within the last 90 days of their contract. Some see early upgrade offers if fibre is available.

  • Should I switch away from BT?

If your renewal price increases, or you've found a better deal elsewhere, consider a switch. It could save you money.

In summary

If your BT contract has ended, it's likely you'll pay more per month unless you take action. Take a moment to check your personalised offer in your MyBT account. These appear around 90 days before your contract ends. Compare your personalised offers with other deals available in your area.

Full fibre broadband can offer excellent value, and now’s a good time to explore upgrades if you have the option.
