Understanding SIM and broadband deals
Several broadband providers give you the option to include a mobile SIM only deal as part of a bundled package.
The details will depend on your chosen package, but these tend to give you:
- Unlimited minutes and texts on your mobile phone
- A set amount of mobile data to use per month
There are many benefits to signing up for a bundled mobile and broadband deal.
These include:
- Better rewards for new broadband sign-ups, such as gift vouchers or bill credits
- Boosted monthly data allowances
- Boosted call time allowances
- Discounts across multiple products
- One monthly bill and less time on admin.
But before signing up for a bundled broadband and SIM deal, you should take time making sure the package is right for you. Getting out of a contract you’re not using can be tricky.

What are Bill Credits?
Virgin Media tends to offer Bill Credits to customers rather than other rewards like vouchers.
A balance is added to your account, which is then used to pay off your monthly bill until your credit is used up.
What to consider when comparing mobile phone and broadband deals
What broadband speed do you need?
Each broadband package you choose will have a different download speed.
Every device connected to your broadband service will use up some of that speed.
Multiple devices will need a faster broadband speed so you don’t experience annoying things like buffering, dropouts or loading screens.
We recommend opting for a package slightly faster than you think to future-proof your home. Only very busy and data-intensive homes should need speeds faster than 300Mb+.

How much mobile data do you need?
How do you use your mobile phone? Are you often able to connect to Wi-Fi? Or are you regularly working on the move? Using data beyond your tariff can end up being expensive.
You can usually check the data usage using your phone settings. Or you can download apps such as:
It’s a good idea to monitor your usage on a typical month, or take the average from a couple of months.
Of course, your habits may change over the course of a contract, so it’s not foolproof, but it’s a good guide!

Is the price reasonable?
Factor in contract length, any mid-contract price rises, and upfront fees. But also consider any rewards that are on offer.
Broadband Genie makes it easy to compare deals with a clear ‘effective monthly cost’.

Would it be cheaper to buy broadband and SIM separately?
Look for the alternative broadband only package without the extra SIM.
Use the filters and compare broadband deals to find the cost of these. Do your own research to see how much it would be to purchase a SIM deal separately.
Which gives you the best value for money? Do you lose out on perks such as double data?
Make sure you’re happy before signing a new contract.

Will broadband and mobile bundles work in my area?
Broadband Genie’s comparison tool will only show broadband providers and packages that are available at your address.
However, before you sign up to a SIM and broadband bundle, you should take some time to check the provider’s network coverage map. If you don't do this you could find yourself tied into a contract with regularly very poor signal.
Alternatively, nPerfs 3G / 4G / 5G coverage map is a handy place to compare all major UK networks in one place.
The downsides of mobile phone and broadband bundles
- Less flexibility. You're tied to one provider and may miss other offers.
- No handset included. SIM-only deals won’t provide a phone, but refurbished options are available from sites like Backmarket.
- Limited provider options. Not every broadband provider offers mobile options.
- Existing contracts. You’ll need to check you’re out of your current mobile deal as well as broadband plan to avoid exit fees.
- You could be stuck with poor service. Your provider may have bad network coverage depending on your location.
How to switch and save
1. Research the deals available
Broadband Genie lists some bundle deals, but you might find more mobile options as add-ons during checkout.
2. Match the speed to your home
- 30–80Mb Superfast Broadband: Good for 1–3 users
- 100Mb+ Full Fibre Broadband: Better for large homes and remote work
For more help to understand average speeds, you can read our ‘ultimate guide to broadband speed’.
3. Check the contract length
Most bundles come with a 24-month contract. Want a more flexible monthly plan? Search for shorter contracts or rolling-monthly deals on Broadband Genie:
4. Be aware of hidden fees
Set-up fees and price rises can all add up on top of the initial monthly price. Look for broadband packages with gift cards or rewards for new customers to offset the cost.
5. Check mobile coverage
Use the nPerf coverage map to check 3G, 4G and 5G mobile network coverage for EE, O2, Three, and Vodafone.
6. Still in contract?
- Make sure you’ve completed your minimum term before switching to avoid early exit fees.
- Read broadband provider reviews before you switch.
- Use our postcode checker to find local deals.
