What you need to know about cancelling TalkTalk broadband

Have you decided the time's come to cancel your TalkTalk broadband service? Whether you’re switching providers or simply don’t need broadband any more, this guide will explain what you need to do to cancel TalkTalk and how much it could cost.

What to do before you cancel TalkTalk broadband

Cancelling TalkTalk broadband is straightforward, but there are a few things to do first.

Check your contract

Most TalkTalk deals now run for 24 months. If you leave early, you’ll likely pay a fee.
The easiest way to check your contract end date is:

Shop around for a new deal

If you’re switching rather than stopping broadband completely, line up a new provider first.

Cancelling your TalkTalk package if you’re switching to another provider

If your TalkTalk contract is over, and you’re moving to another internet service provider, your new provider will usually cancel TalkTalk for you using the One Touch Switch process.

This is the easiest route, and you won’t have to pay any fees. Just find your favourite broadband deal, click the ‘get deal’ button, complete the checkout and they’ll do the admin.

Cancelling if you’re stopping broadband completely

If you’re cancelling, but no moving to another provider, you must contact TalkTalk directly to cancel.

Here’s how:

  • TalkTalk Cancellation Number: 0345 1720 088 (have your TalkTalk broadband account details ready)

Or write to:

TalkTalk
Soapworks, Colgate Lane
Salford, M5 3LZ

Include your name, phone number, and signature in any letter.

Genie Tip: TalkTalk will usually phone you to confirm cancellation, so it may be best to avoid the unnecessary delay and phone the customer service line.

TalkTalk cancellation policy and early fees

If you leave TalkTalk before your broadband contract ends, you’ll have to pay early termination charges.

These are charged for every month remaining on your minimum term.

TalkTalk Early Termination Fees
Package Fee (per month remaining)
Fast Broadband £10.80
All other packages £10.20

When you can leave without paying a cancellation fee

Cancelling if you’re moving

You can usually take your TalkTalk broadband service with you. To organise a home move:

  • You’ll need to give at least 14 days’ notice (but no more than 3 months)
  • There’s a £60 moving fee, which is waived if you renew your contract
  • If your new home doesn’t have access to a full fibre network, you may have to switch to a slower speed

If you’re out of contract, this is a great time to compare other broadband providers instead.

Cancelling due to bereavement

Contact the TalkTalk bereavement team on 0345 172 0038 (free from a TalkTalk phone). They’re open between 9am-7pm Monday to Friday or 9am-6pm on Saturdays.

Have account holder’s name and account details ready.

Sort by

Our deals are sorted by how popular they are with our visitors. The more people clicking on a deal - especially if they then buy it - the higher it is in our tables.

Sponsored deals are not factored in when sorting by popularity.

Pricing Calculation

Effective monthly cost = This shows how much you are effectively paying each month over the length of the contract by taking into account rewards savings and one-off fees. The calculation for this is monthly cost x length of contract + setup cost - rewards savings.

Monthly cost = What you'll pay each month. This does not include additional fees, such as phone calls, which may be added to your bill.

Setup cost = The cost of installation, postage for the Wi-Fi router, and any other one-off charges.

Total Price Rise Costs = This is the additional amount paid over the course of the contract based on any annual price rises by the provider.

Rewards saving = The value of vouchers and other perks included with a deal such as cashback, bill credit or a gift card which you can claim.

What does this mean?

The speedometer gives you a quick idea of how fast a deal is. Speeds are shown in average download speed (Mb/Gb) – here’s what each level means:

💡 Tip: You don’t always need the highest speed, but it can help make things smoother and future-proof your home.

What is a trending deal?

A trending deal is a package that has increased in popularity in recent days. We base this on the number of people clicking on, and buying the deal.
