Are Hyperoptic deals any good?
If you need fast broadband, Hyperoptic has you covered. It offers full fibre broadband with speeds up to 1Gb (gigabits per second). There’s also the bonus option of being able to sign up to flexible, monthly rolling contracts.
Let’s find out more about its deals for new customers.
Hyperoptic broadband only plans
Hyperoptic broadband's main service area is in London. But you can now sign up in a few other locations across the UK. These include Cardiff, Sheffield, Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, and Nottingham.
Unlike many other broadband providers, Hyperoptic doesn’t use an Openreach network. Instead, it has its own full fibre, FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) infrastructure.
Here’s your choice of packages:
| Package | Avg. download | Avg. upload | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyperoptic 150Mb Superfast Fibre Broadband | 158Mb | 157Mb | Small to medium homes with lots of connected devices |
| Hyperoptic 500Mb Ultrafast Fibre Broadband | 522Mb | 508Mb | Large homes with multiple streams in 4K |
| Hyperoptic 1Gb Hyperfast Fibre Broadband | 900Mb | 900Mb | Large households, peak time online gamers |
Hyperoptic provides symmetrical broadband speeds. This means that it provides the same speed for both downloading and uploading.
If you compare this with BT, you can only get upload speeds up to around 110Mbps. With Hyperoptic, you can enjoy upload speeds up to 900Mbps!
All packages come with truly unlimited usage. There's no traffic shaping or throttling, or any restrictions based on the type of traffic or the time of day. But there is an excessive usage policy.
You might get a warning or have your service suspended if you use too much data beyond the limit.
In our study on downloads speeds at peak hours, Hyperoptic showed that its advertised speeds were very close to what customers actually received.
Hyperoptic Total Wi-Fi broadband
For an extra £7 per month, you can sign up to Total Wi-Fi.
A Minihub Wi-Fi extender can then be used to improve the Wi-Fi coverage around your home. One should be enough, but you can receive additional if you’re still having problems.

Can I get Hyperoptic broadband deals in my area?
Because Hyperoptic operates its own network, coverage is very different from the Openreach and Virgin Media networks, and it has relatively limited availability compared to the big names.
It’s easy to find out if your building has been hooked up to Hyperoptic's network, use our postcode checker.
In some limited cases more than one building will be in the same postcode area or your building may still be in the pre-order phase, if this is the case, Hyperoptic will confirm availability before you sign up.
Property developers within Hyperoptic areas can apply to have their buildings upgraded to bring gigabit fibre to their tenants, so if other buildings in your area have Hyperoptic already, talk to your property manager about the possibility of an upgrade.
If they know that there's demand in the building, they may be more likely to invest in hyperfast broadband.
You can also register your interest on the Hyperoptic website. Buildings with the highest customer demand get the lowest installation costs, and they also get connected before anyone else.
Does Hyperoptic offer a Social Tariff?
Hyperoptic does offer a Social Tariff package for those on Universal Credit or benefits.
There are four Fair Fibre plans available, all on a rolling monthly basis. There's the option to include free evening and weekend calls at an extra cost. Prices start from £12 per month, with £0 activation fee.

How to get Hyperoptic Broadband
All new Hyperoptic customers will require an engineer visit to get started.
An engineer will need to drill a small hole (10mm) into your home. This is usually above your front door. A surface-mounted cable will then run inside your home to the closest plug socket.
You would either need a small socket installed on the wall by a plug, or a fibre connector to plug in your Hyperhub router.
Installation typically takes around an hour, and engineers work six days a week.

If you can’t get Hyperoptic, there are plenty of other fast, full fibre broadband providers to consider. As well as popular names like BT, Virgin Media, Sky and TalkTalk, smaller altnets are a great alternative. These are often the best at offering perks like symmetrical speeds and fixed price promises.
