Check your minimum term first

Before you cancel Plusnet broadband, check whether you’re still in your minimum term. This will make a big difference to what you pay.

  • If you’re out of contract (at the end of contract), you can usually leave without fees.
  • If you’re still in contract, you may face an early termination charge (sometimes called an ‘exit fee’).

To find your contract end date:

  • Log in to your Plusnet account
  • Head to ‘your contract’ section to see the start and end dates

Genie Tip: Plusnet requires a 14 days’ notice when cancelling broadband packages.

Ways to cancel Plusnet for free

Out of contract / End of contract

If you’ve reached the end of your minimum term, cancelling is simple. Thanks to the One-Touch Switch process, all you need to do is browse and choose a new deal. Your new provider will contact Plusnet, cancel your old contract and set up your new service.

If you don’t get a transfer notification within a couple of days, call Plusnet to confirm.

Cooling-off period

When you sign up to Plusnet, you have a 14-day cooling-off period to cancel without penalty. If you don't feel the service is right for you, we recommend getting in touch with the customer service team by phoning 0800 013 2632.

Cancelling Plusnet while in contract

If you leave Plusnet before your minimum term ends, you’ll be charged an early termination fee.

How fees are worked out:

  • Start with your monthly charge (including any discounts)
  • VAT is deducted
  • Costs save by Plusnet if you leave early are deducted
  • 1% is deducted for early payment
  • The total is multiplied by the months left on the contract (calculated daily if part-months remain)
  • VAT is added back on

Moving home with Plusnet

  • Call Plusnet’s home move team on 0800 587 1952
  • Notice required: 4 weeks
  • Standard charge: Estimated at £65, unless you renew your contract

If you’re out of contract, it may be cheaper to switch providers and leave Plusnet than pay the £65 moving fee.

Customers with full fibre packages may need to downgrade if fibre isn’t available at the new address.

Plusnet cancellation FAQs

  • Can I cancel Plusnet without calling?

Only if you’re switching broadband provider. In this instance, your new provider will arrange the cancellation using the One-Touch Switch system. If you choose to cancel because of a price rise, you'll be forced to pay an early termination fee if you're still within your minimum term.
