Do not trust these absolute thieves. They DOUBLED my broadband bill and when I noticed 4 months later they told me they were at liberty to increase the rate without notifying me. They said that had I gone and logged into their system I would have seen a notification there that they were doubling my bill. But they didn't e-mail me or send me a letter - they just expected me to log in each month to check they hadn't arbitrarily doubled my bill. Cancelled and moving supplier. Oh and also when I signed up to them in the first place they told my old supplier to cancel my contract but then SSE forgot to connect me to their system, so the first month with SSE I had no broadband at all. Steer well clear. There's a reason they have such dismal reviews.

My FIBER internet with SSE is appalling it is forever dropping connection. I have since learned that you only have fiber internet if it is delivered straight to you house.mine come from the local exchange down to local box then is delivered to house by BT old underground copper cabling. No company should be allowed to advertise this without explaining it won't stop any of the problems you currently with connection while on this system. It is false advertising, I still have the same problems with fiber as I did with broadband but I just pay more now. My contract is due to end and I will go with the only company I know of who delivers fiber straight to the house which is virgin. Sick and tired of being ripped off

Do not bother with this shower. Signed up to move from BT due to issues with BT. Lord knows why I bothered as BT are far superior based to this shower. SSE told BT my move was scheduled for the 20th March which BT actioned. However Shambolic Service Extrodinaire managed not to tell BT that there were problems - result = no broadband for me. Have wasted at least two hours of my valuable lifespan trying to resolve the issue. SSE not really interested and still cannot give me a date as to when the transfer will be completed. Looking at going cap in hand to BT to go back to them. Suppose the old adage is you get what you pay for, and with SSE you get poor service where they blame the other party until its proven its SSE's fault. Ofcom here I come. They offered £30 to buy a mobile dongle, great if you live in an area where mobile signal is ok - guess what, I do not. When I told them that no other offer made.

    Switch date 4/11/19 – Didn’t happen

Phoned SSE 5 Nov. 09:06 Stated there was a problem with the connection and that I would be updated on Wed 6 Nov.

Phoned SSE 6 Nov. 13:40 Disconnected
Phoned SSE 6 Nov. Told I would receive a call with an update. Didn’t happen.

Phoned SSE 9 Nov. 09:39 Line tested and external fault showing. Decided to send Open Reach out on Thur am14 Nov.

Open Reach engineers arrived on 14 Nov am and tested the telephone and broadband lines. No fault found. Requested to contact SSE and explain that everything is 100% OK and that the router is trying to talk to SSE server but SSE server is not talking to the router. As a result browser page won’t load.

14th Nov. Phoned SSE as requested and spoke to Holly whom eventually ran a line test which showed there was an external problem and that the issue would be raised for an engineer to come again.

15th Nov. Received a text message from SSE Phone & Broadband stating the engineer has resolved the fault.
Phoned SSE 16:07 to explain that the fault has not been resolved and that I still can’t connect to their server.
Advised to try again Sat: 15th and if no joy then phone SSE again.

18th Nov. Phoned SSE 08:20 and spent the next three hours trying to resolve being unable to connect to the internet. In all credit the assistant did everything she could yet to no avail. Concluded that an Open Reach engineer will have to look into the mater, No date given for Open Reach engineer to visit.

18th Nov. Internet came online at 21:30pm.

19th Nov. SSE phoned to say that an Open Reach engineer would look round tomorrow but I told her to cancel it as the internet came online last night and seems to be settled.

    14 days compensation at £5 = £70.

20th Dec received email bill from SSE requesting I pay £23.99.

21st Dec 08:20 Phoned SSE questioning the £23.99. Told that I had received £15.00 compensation and that was all I was getting.
Told SSE that according to Ofcom rules I was entitled to £5.00 compensation per day for not being connected.
The assistant put me on hold to have a word with supervisor. Came back to say that I was not getting anything more.

21st Dec 08:53 Phoned SSE requesting a Deadlock Letter. Assistant had another word with his supervisor and it was suggested SSE would offer another month free meaning my total compensation would come to just over £41.00 which I accepted.

From then on to the end of my 18 month contract Broadband has been intermittent and a further compensation paid to me for down time.

Further complications arose at end of contract while switching to Plusnet. SSE puts me on new contract at twice the price and stated that Plusnet had not informed them that I was leaving them, which I find hard to believe.

It now looks like SSE has sent me a bill for £56.00 which I'll now have to phone them and dispute.

All in all - STAY WELL CLEAR unless you enjoy being stressed to the hilt.

Moved from Sky to SSE, what a great decision and great deal.
Everything happened as planned and at the arranged times, I have absolutely no reservations in recommending this service and thank SSE for a hassle free changeover and look forward to being a customer for many years to come

Same as other complaints - I used to get 10mb with my other supplier now at peak times lucky to get 1mb and often down to 0.5 with constant drop outs - if you want easy cheap broadband on a budget then great if you need any sort of speed or reliability look elsewhere.

Was good to start with but been gradually getting slower and more frequent disconnections and now the superfast fibre is just a distant memory. Can`t get through to customer services. Waste of money. Better off sticking to BT.

I moved to SSE about a year ago. Prices were competitive. I cannot "rubbish" them totally as their hands are very much tied by the service they get from Openreach.
On the positive side, getting through to customer service never proved an issue and they were quick to follow up. There call centre is also in the UK which is great.
On the negative side is the ongoing issue of slow speeds and the broadband dropping out regularly. Despite several engineer visits, resets, etc the matter was never resolved.
SSE have finally agreed to release me from the balance of my contract. Fair play to them.
Our area has just recently had fibre installed so moving back to BT.

To anybody thinking about joining SSE broadband have a read of this and you will never consider using them again.

Nothing but problems ever since i ordered from them. Next door neighbours phone line was changed to SSE instead of my own line , took them 2-3 months to figure out what had even went wrong and finally get connected even after i had mentioned to them what the problem could be the adsvisor knew better than me and said the engineer would sort it out. Engineer never arrived twice , he turned up at the house the first time and said that he knocked and there was no answer so he left , i was told i would be provided with photographic evidence that he actually arrived at the right door but this was never provided , the second time he was given my mobile number to call me when he was outside but once again never called and just left. 2 days taken off work for nothing , not that anyone from SSE cared.

The next issue was my connection going on and off consistently about 20-30 times a day ruining whatever work i had to complete that day aswell as games and music i had been watching. For some reason i was advised to call the faults line 12 midnight by an advisor , when i rang up the automated line said i was in a Q to hold on and that my call would be dealt with very shortly , i waited on the line all night expecting for someone to answer and sort my connection out but nothing. The automated line told me to wait in the Q for an advisor even though the line was infact closed and nobody was there until 6am , another £20 vodafone goodybag wasted based on an SSE advisors advice.

Obviously a complaint had already been made by this point and next up was the manager dealing with the complaint Rachel from SSE. On initial contact she told me everything would be investigated properly and compensated accordingly. A previous advisor mentioned something to do with a connection fee of £60 being added to the bill as a engineer had to visit .When i spoke to Rachel an arguement took place and i explained that if i had to pay the fee after all the issues that i wouldnt continue with SSE. She assured me i didnt have to pay any fees and the previous advisor was incorrect. She took no responsibility for any of the previous issues raised apart from the automated line complaint .A month later i checked my bill online and what do you know a £60 connection fee charge added to the bill , i rang straight up to try n speak with Rachel , she wasnt availiable and hasnt been ever since that moment and along with that she pretended as if none of what she said previously had even took place!

Had issues for the length of the contract. Using an old Plusnet router helped but as soon as I have switched back to the SSE router I am having problems with internet dropping though the router shows no problem and being connected. Continuously unable to load a web page.
Customer service are helpful but go through the same process every time meaning you are repeating previous checks and wasting your time. Not sure how many times I have taken the socket of the wall to do their checks for them as I have lost count.......

It states on the router box "Welcome to frustration-free broadband from sse". Whoever wrote that and gave it the OK were a pair of comedic geniuses. Still waiting for it to go live, been told we have to wait for bt and they have no idea when it will be switched on. Ultra fast broadband just came to a sudden stop.

Would give zero stars if I could. Absolutely appalled with this broadband. I signed up and have been unable to use the broadband a single day without problems. Now having to pay over £200 bill to get out of contract early. Spent hours on the phone trying to fix issues (mostly on hold being passed between departments) but still got nowhere. Daylight robbery. Wish I’d read these reviews before I went with them!

Just had fibre bb installed this morning, was online immediately with speeds of over 34mbps download speed and over 9mbps upload speed. I was sceptical as SSE are the new kids on the block but so far so good. All for £10 a month for 2 years!

Wow...the worst experience i have ever had dealing with a company. We have been left without internet for about a month.
The Customer service team would say one thing one day and another thing another day. One day they would give us one date and another day another for us to go live.
It became so ridiculous with so much communication and always been told something and that not really being the case, that I eventually had to cancel it to get out of it.
Customer Service people seem to be helping and seem sincere, but it appears to me, they themselves have no idea often about stuff and just come out with something just for the sake of providing an answer.
what a waste of our time!

This is the first time I’ve ever felt the need to leave a bad review but honestly this company is awful. The internet hasn’t got one day without at least one issue. Some days it would go off and not come back on for days. After repeatedly phoning customer services they had these two cracking bits of advice...1: take the fascia off the box and use the lead that way, we told them we have a crawling baby and that’s not a safe option and plus it’s a stupid option at that. 2: plug the laptop, PlayStation etc directly into the router with and Ethernet cable, which would mean us all huddled together in the hallway to be able to use our devices like the good old dial up days! Except this isn’t the good old dial up days it’s a time where you pay 28.99 a month for broadband and expect at least a half decent service. I’ve lost work, gone days without internet and still been charged on numerous occasions and at this current moment I’m trying to leave a bad review which took 20 minutes just to get on the page. Moving back to Now Broadband, they were brill. If you want a rubbish service that cannot go one single day without an issue and ridiculous customer service then SSE are the ones for you. If I could leave no stars I would have!

Avoid Sse at all costs for broadband. They cancelled my bt and gave me a live date. Put me online for two days then it went down. Phoned them to ask what was wrong. They said they put me on a temporary connection because my house wasn't routed for broadband. They promised to phone me back to give me a new live date. No phone call. Phoned them about 20 times and keep getting told lies. Still no broadband. I got a huge bill from Vodafone due to data usage so they offered me £20 which doesn't come close to the Vodafone bill. They say it will come on this Tuesday. Not holding my breath. Terrible.

The customer service is disgraceful. I tried to take my SSE broadband with me when I moved home. I waited for two weeks with no letter received in the post as promised regarding my move. I called SSE only to find out that my account had been closed and I had been charged with a termination fee. A customer adviser promised me that this fee would be removed and my account would remain closed. The following week I received a router and and charge remained on my account for over 4 weeks regardless of an official complaint being made. I had also asked to speak to a manager on many occasions only to to fobbed off by a customer adviser who would say they have no power to do anything. Was I reimbursed as per company states on website for a call back that was not made? Or for the stress they have caused me? Of course not. I strongly advise everyone NOT to use this unprofessional company.

Switched from BT to SSE and halved our bill. We switched at the end of September and all has been well. We get 70+mbps regularly, on iPad and iPhone, but lower on laptop on wifi. The only thing we had to do was to buy a wifi booster for the sitting room, but that was paid for from the savings on our bill. we only contacted SSE once and had no problems with CS. Overall we're happy. We have fibre here in superfast Cornwall.

I migrated to SSE/Daisy about a month ago and so far I have been very pleased.

The steps from sign-up to connection were clear, easy and communicated well. In fact I was surprised how easy connection and setup was and I successfully attached all my devices in very short order.

I have found the router to be fine and even to have more range and stability than my previous BT Home Hub.

As for speeds, these have increased and my connection is much more stable than I had with BT, despite the cable infrastructure being unchanged. I livein a rural area and so do not have fibre.

Previously, I achieved speeds around 13.3 Mbps/0.87 Mbps. Since migrating I have a stable connection of around 14.7 Mbps/1.07 Mbps. That's a significant increase just for changing providers.

Additionally, the connection is much more stable. With BT internet connectivity would freeze for some seconds several times a day every day. This has now gone.

All this for less than half of the cost BT were proposing with their latest price increase. I am also not locked-in to a long term contract 9only a rolling month).

So, all-in-all I am very happy. I cannot comment on customer service as I have had no occasion to use it. But, I have found in general that this is usually not good from ISPs anyway.

Overall, I think the standard of broadband service still seems a little hit-and-miss in the UK, depending on where you live and other factors.

I seem fortunate to have selected an ISP that is working for me.

The cutover from TalkTalk to SSE went ahead smoothly on the agreed cutover date and I haven't noticed any drop in the 76Mb/s speed. But, their customer service is shockingly poor. I couldn't sign up online and had to spend 43 minutes on the phone to a Portugese chap who had trouble reading the terms and conditions back to me but insisted on repeating them about half a dozen times. Then I get a mystery email to say they'd been trying to get in touch with me but, even though I gave them alternative details, didn't get back to me.

After the cutover I tried to download the security software, NetIntelligence, using the login details provided but got the error 'invalid username'. When I emailed NetIntelligence support the email bounced so I emailed SSE and never got a reply. I'm now on the phone to SSE to get this sorted out and have been queued for 20 minutes and counting. I'm paying for a 24x7 service but their telephone support is only 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 2pm Saturday. So if I have a problem at 14.01 on a Saturday it could be 42 hours before I can actually report it - assuming they ever answer the phone.

Bunch of idiots. BB went down so spoke to customer service who done nothing to help other than tell to restart router and call back. I help for 25 minutes and gave up. Called again a few days later and said they'd be back in contact with me. Still heard nothing and that was a week ago. The woman I spoke to didn't even sound like she knew what fibre is. Just avoid and save your time. Bob the builder will be able to fix it quicker

Switched to SSE from BT as it was less than half the price for Ultra fast fibre.
    Very disappointed!
Speed tests show that I'm getting between 30 -38 MBS, but it can't even stream an HD movie.
What is the point in advertising these fast speeds if it's useless. It appears SSE throttle the hell out of the bandwidth.
I phoned their customer services who say they'll sort the problem and call back, they never do.
So nearly 2 months in, they've delayed so much that I'm past my cooling off period and will now undoubtedly have a major battle to get away from the 18 month contract, which is not fit for purpose.

When I moved house I gave them plenty of notice on moving in day they had no knowledge and had to wait 3 weeks for open reach to connect the line.
I work from home with no apology or any contact.
I check speeds often and never as promised in the contract.
And just to add insult realised they put the price up with no contact would definatly avoid.

I live in a rural are with slow braodband speeds. Having called Customer Service to report ridiculously slow broadband speeds of less than 0.25M I was asked to take 6 further readings at various times using an ethernet cable. I have no ethernet port on my laptop and for some reason SSE not happy with wireless speed testing. I can get wireless speeds eventually but I'd hate to think how my granny would. In the old days my previous supplier would contact Openreach who would fix the problem. Clearly SSE not happy with this additional cost to them, and will make it extremely difficult for their customers to get the service they will eventually (I hope) try to provide. I'd say if you live in a rural area, do not use SSE.

6 weeks after signing up for SSEs phone and broadband deal I cannot comment on speed or reliability because it's still not working. Ours was treated as new install and that was good because the internal cables where probably 1960s GPO. Eventually we received an install date I had to travel 350 miles home from Scotland to make sure I was there for the engineer because they threatened 108 pounds bill if no one was in. I sat in for 5 hours and no one came. Eventually called them to be told it had been switched on exchange, flipping heck had they told us I needn't have travelled, it had probably been switched on days before when my partner received an unsolicited call from Indian call centre. They must have known a number to call but sse didn't tell us. The phone couldn't phone out but eventually I'd to call to ask for new number. Made complaint got long letter back dealing my complaint but nothing else. Broadband router received 7 or 8 days later remember they promise 5 but instructions said don't install till you get code on separate letter. It never came. Eventually called them to be told it didn't need one. Hours on phone to them explanation after explanation and still no broadband. My advice folks look elsewhere for experienced provider .

FANTASTIC! - I now have SSE super fast broadband running a week after they installed a new phone line. They did all the work switching me from old provider, Two engineer visits ALL FREE - two years broadband ALL FREE - UK support line that is great, well maybe hanging on for a while listening to a robot, but they do answer and are very very helpful.

I recommend SEE BROADBAND to anyone - and I am usually a complainer about poor service.

Properly awful. I've been in touch any number of times with the customer services and simply not interested in improving the service. Constantly bleating about how many devices are registered on the router.

Yes, we do have a reasonable number of devices 9 but clearly not all being used at the same time!

Can't wait until the contract finishes then back to Vodafone!

Upgraded in Jan 2021 but still speed and coverage really poor. On Zoom calls often we are closed out and range really poor - first floor reception in and out constantly - wish I’d gone back to BT

We've had SSE fibre ultimate for around 4 years now. Compared to the virgin product we were on previously, it is flawless.

In 4 years we've experienced 2 drop outs that lastest all of 5 minutes each. We have never experienced any throttling or peak usage and during lockdown with heavy working from home (I work in IT and spend 10 hours a day working remotely and on video calls). When we were with virgin the service here was terrible, packets constantly being dropped and peak time usage really effecting video streaming and general browsing

A lot of reviews on here are from customers who probably do not have a decent BT line to their property or have localised issues with the BT network. No matter was provider you were with, you would have experienced the same issues.

Overall, SSE is cheap, reliable and quick.

(I'm also an ex SSE employee who hates this company with a passion)

Cheap and nasty .you get what you pay for. We were with BT for 14 years with minimal issues. We switched over to SSE for price reasons and sure enough we have a never ending problems. It takes on average 40 minutes to reply any customer service phone lines. I would avoid this like the plague if you’re looking for a broadband provider
