OMG...how disappointed am I!! From time hanging on phone to speak to customer services to not receiving a start date and they gad arranged an engineer without me knowing appointment! Super fast fibre my backside! I had at least 10mbps with bt normal broadband now I have just under 3mbps with sse superfast fibre! I am one extremely unhappy customer! I'm thinking if cancelling contract as they do not deliver what they advertise gggrrrr and thinking if reporting to trading standards for false advertising

Today is the first day of my broadband with SSE. Am I impressed? Definitely not! Did they tell me that they did not supply an email service? No. Did they tell me that they don't answer their customer services line within a reasonable time? No. Here I am on day one, waiting for customer services to answer the phone. It is now 7.10 p.m. and I have been waiting since 6.10 p.m. and listening to music and a prerecorded voice saying 'Thank you for your patience, your call will be answered as s soon as possible.' BEWARE!!!

The service has been fine. But a fallen tree has severed my line. Openreach cant repair it until SSE contact them. I have been trying to get through to them for 2 days and have so far spent 4 hours waiting with no answer and no response to emails or anything. They are a disgrace.

Would give zero stars if I could. Absolutely appalled with this broadband. I signed up and have been unable to use the broadband a single day without problems. Now having to pay over £200 bill to get out of contract early. Spent hours on the phone trying to fix issues (mostly on hold being passed between departments) but still got nowhere. Daylight robbery. Wish I’d read these reviews before I went with them!

It just didn't deliver as promised, though they tried to resolve it I just couldn't carry on with the slowness of the broadband. That may be down to the Bt line in or down to sse, I don't know. I have a better connection using the tether on my mobile data bundle..

After repeatedly phoning you to say I cancelled my order, you have sent me the box, so had to send that back. My phone was cut off on the 5th as you were late in letting BT know. Today I received a letter saying you have set up my direct debit. Which I have cancelled.

Poor service, average reliability, terrible speeds and regular drop outs. Got this for the price, but won't be with SSE once the contract period ends. For those who want to know, I was told speeds of 13mbps would be the norm, (after testing). On first install I was indeed getting 13-15mbps. Now, just a few months later, highest I get is 2-5mbps, and I frequently find it's dropped below 1mbps. I know the line is fine, so it's SSE throttling it. We use it for catch up TV and normal web browsing.
V. Poor.

I cannot comment on the broadband as SSE have failed to provide a service although it was supposed to be up and running on FebruarY 15TH. Our previous provider therefore shut down broadband and telephone on 14th. As a result we had no landline for 16 hours and have now been told our broadband will become available on Wednesday 27th.. I could go on about the number of calls I have had to make and the reasons I have been given for the poor service but the lack of service has impacted on work, communication and has been costly in terms of phone calls and searching for wifi devices and has caused quite a lot of stress. I find customer service polite and helpful but in the end SSE failed to provide the service we signed up to. This has not happened before with previous suppliers and therefore is very disappointing and not good enough.

SSE - the worst experience I ever had. I was attracted to the low monthly cost, about 20 quid. However, the consistent signal drop for 30 sec to 1 minute renders Netflix and Amazon useless. I experience that loss of signal when banking on-line!
I spoke to them, they gave me a pep talk about "you live in a congested area " and nothing else happened. Well guess what SSE? The traffic will only continue to grow. I feel like they are still in the nineties.
Imagine watching GOT and the fly of the dragons are frozen ... Relaunch Netflux ... Go back to "Resume" ... :))) pretty cool eh?
My advice to everyone reading this: avoid SSE broadband like a plague.
Horrible.
They are either a bunch of incompetents or a bunch of cheap corporate mongers practicing "traffic management". Pay up a tenner more for anyone out there and have proper internet, proper service.

Having been with SSE for 3 years, I was disappointed to note that my monthly charge had increased without any notification when the contract had lapsed after 2 years. On contacting the Customer Service Team via email with my complaint, it was dealt with in a very professional manner & within 4 working days. They promptly transferred me to a better deal & gave me a small financial credit for my troubles. I am happy to say, this was a very easy complaint to sort & dealt with very efficiently. I continue to be an SSE Broadband & Phone customer.

The WORST broadband experience ever. I had a persistent fault on my connection that SSE were completely incapable of dealing with. Customer services were CLUELESS, wait times were anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to speak to anyone. They NEVER called back when they said they would. Completely INCOMPETENT! Don't do it. If you do and you have a problem then good luck.

Very slow broadband, and often no broadband. I now realise how expensive they are too! Was promised a new router, which never materialised. Can get a similar deal for half the price.

Very poor ADSL service, customer services is non-existent unless you wish to stay on the phone for close to 30 minutes listening to Nat King Cole before you get to a real person. Constant dropouts, high latency issues whilst playing PC games (WoW etc) extreme lag & rubber banding. Overall very displeased with service. In other words AVOID THIS ISP LIKE THE PLAGUE...

To say the service is P**s poor is an understatement, ever since getting the service I have had nothing but issues with it, I have to reset the router every second day, YouTube is useless at times as is iPlayer,Netflix and Now TV due to buffering.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS ITS JUST NOT WORTH THE HASSLES

Moved to SSE recently from BT, who kept adding things to my account I didn't ask for (i.e. BT Sport). I have never switched before, however, and was a little apprehensive about doing it.
I have gone from paying £200 a quarter to £87 for the same level of service (17mb unlimited broadband and anytime calls). SSE have also given me this for £5 a month for the first 6 months (including line rental!).
The speeds are also faster, as I have a new router, I suppose.
Thus, I am very impressed. Their energy prices are totally extortionate, but broadband is fantastic. Thanks, SSE.

No no and no. The routers a nightmare. I've dealt with the internet since dialup DEMON and this has to be the worst switch ever. All was promised, min 40 dowlaod as is for the rest with a max of 74 which is what I was getting so all good so far. Did the switch Ive been sitting for a fortnight at 49???? Unless its a monthly thing it should change dependant on the line etc. but the router says max speed is 57 and hasnt changed. Considering Ive been getting around 74 for the past 3 years 57 is a major whack. ADD to the THE BIGGEST pain ITA. The router actually has a time limit. Every wireless connection has a disconnect time which DOES NOT reconnect automatically. So my autistic son who has no IT savvy whatsoever doesn't know his int eh house should be on wireless connection tablet is using his precious when we travel mobile limit, which is set at a generous 16GB. All gone within the 1st 2 weeks as he got disconnected after 12 hours. OK says I I'll reset every wireless connection to priority to find the router doesn't remember the password and I have to factory reset so it recognise the key on the back of the box. I will do it when everyone's asleep but all confidence for the SSE BB is gone. Promised speed not there, wireless connections disconnect unless on priority(I'm guessing they stay on but can't test that see before). I KNOW speed can be higher as my uploads a re get this 1/3rd of my download speed instead of 1/5th. All round bad experience I think going back to vodafone is the way to go and I'll take the 5% hit back on utilities. Here's a discount and btw we're going to hamstring your internet to offset the balance! Nah this lot need the internet more than the money cheers I've got kids ffs

4got to add from the last review, my mobile despite being 2ft from router disconnected as per the scheduled disconnection I saw on the router and wouldn't reconnect, no signal found. The router even dropped off my available networks for 15 mins.... BB might be ok but the router is the cheapest POS you could have and isn't worth suing. If they gave you instructions to swap over your existing router this might be better but as it stands ITS NOT. SO you got 1 or 2 devices this might be for you if you have a family with multiple wireless devices stay away

We just switched to SSE and this has been the worst decision ever, they say up to 7.5mbps but were actually receiving at the most i've tested 2mbps.
Its shocking and now we are stuck in a contract with a terrible supplier.
Thats what you get for a cheaper price. Avoid at all costs

After some difficulty with enabling the connection , SSE are as good as another provider, the customer service I found good.
The initial difficulties seem to stem from the Open Reaches way of doing the connection, in a word POOR. SSE customer services were good and provide compensation for the finical costs incurred by the delay.

I moved to SSE for price reasons and, on the basis that BT and Plusnet had previously provided good service, thought what could possibly go wrong? Well actually it goes wrong alot. Nearly everynight in fact between 6-11pm. It normally drops to 0.01mbps (that's not a typo!) which effectively means there is zero internet - its not even fast enough to complete the BT wholesale speed test. I've had multiple visits to investigate 'line faults' (as if line faults would happen only in peak times). Eventually they said they couldn't help with me. So I took them to the ombudsman who said hard luck on the basis that SSE state that they traffic manage. So if you have no requirement to use the internet in the evening then I highly recommend them. For everyone else, PLEASE STEER WELL CLEAR!!

A faultless move with everything done when expected or sooner with Broadband change over occurring seamlessly. Moved from TalkTalk and the improvement in every area is clear. Better service, better connection, better, more friendly and informative customer service. I am delighted and a lower charge as well!! I would recommend SSE Broadband without reservation!

Honestly, garbage I only went with sse as they were the only provider that had fibre coverage in my street, with lan connection my Internet is "ok" at best but sitting 7ft from my router my WiFi is beyond garbage, I would not be surprised if basic copper cable connection is faster with a better provider I cannot recommend SSE any less than is physically possible theyvare beyond absolute garbage to the point that I use my unlimited 4g phone plan to stream anything including online gaming it's that bad, if you haven't got the gist yet go with bt or talk talk or sky I wouldn't touch sse with a 500ft barge pole ever again in my life crap service. End of.

Switched from BT but was worried due to the ever age to poor reviews on here.
The service and switchover was flawless and I am now receiving 70meg download speed from an advertised 72 meg.
Don't believe the rubbish on here and to top it all off its £21 a month for my line rental, unlimited 72 meg broadband and calls.
Say goodbye to the so called big names they are ripping you off to use the same lines.
Note: I have not noticed or felt any traffic throttling during usage so unsure how it works as I have seen a lot of comments regarding this.

I switched from BT fibre to SSE because I was looking for a deal. SSE have a product which claims to allow you up to 17mbs for £26 a month. This would have worked out cheaper than my BT package. However, what you don't realise is that the claim to give you up to 17mbs only works if your own copper ADSL line can carry that speed. In my area, the copper line can only take up to 3mbs. In addition, the call charges are higher with SSE. So, my bills are fractionally lower but my speed has disappeared. I am now locked into an 18 month contract. Apparently I should have read the technical details of the package when I signed up online. I have raised this with SSE. No joy there. Basically all my own fault for not having a degree in telephone engineering. I won't be renewing with SSE of course. It's a scam offering a headline 'deal' and hiding the details. Unfair on the consumer for whom it is hard enough nowadays to navigate the minefield of financial and service products.

Have been with them for 6 months having been enticed by the price. My max speed to date has been 3Mbps. Had BT before with a top speed of 18Mbps. Very frustrating. In addition, the billing of calls makes my bill overall about the same. Have raised this with them twice using their online complaints form. Still yet to receive a reply. Onto the Ombudsman next. In short, only use SSE if you are desperate to save money but be warned that you get what you pay for.

Abselute nightmare! How can these people be allowed to run a company! Previous property, they took 2 weeks after 'Live Date' to actually connect us, promissed engeneers will turn up, they never do. Engeneers actually said SSE send them the wrong information. Move property a few weeks ago, again same story! Supported to conect on the 18th, after hours on the phone with a manager. The 18th comes, am told order was not put through, wait another week, complete an unbeliebvab1le waste of time!! DO NOT GO WITH SSE!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish i never took this broadband out, never will i go anywhere other than Plusnet or BT. We cant load movies on SKY Q unless early in the morning. Kids cant download on BBC iplayer. Now in addition to the slow speed it keeps dropping out so much we are using our mobile allowance to go online. 20-30 min wait on phone everytime for help. Final straw is when i reset my login password for my SSE account it takes 45min to receive it in my hotmail account only for the link to say unfortunaly it must be used within 30 min. Now paying £170 to escape the contract and go back to Plusnet! SSE NEVER AGAIN!

Switched over from Sky a few months ago and that was where the issue started. 7 weeks without broadband because SSE cancelled the first 2 orders. 1 was because I purchased the fibre package but there wasn't enough space in the cabinet (not their fault) but they didn't even bother to tell me... I had to wait until the connection date and to call them. The second was because they forgot to go through the verbal contract with me. Again they didn't tell me and cancelled the order.
Immediately after I finally got connected I started having issues with WiFi.
Note: there are never more than 2 devices actively using the WiFi at any one time.
Note: The speeds are good. Not great... but good.
The issue with the FiFi is every 5 minutes it will stop working. videos will stick on the buffering screen for about 10 minutes then resume for another 5 minutes. This only happens with my laptop, Tablet and 2 phones. PS3 seems to work ok for Netflix with only a slight drop in quality. A fix for this issue is to manually disconnet the device from the router and re-connect. Were good for another 5-10minutes.
Phoned them today after finally getting fed up and i am try explaining to them that there is an issue with their provided router. There is something fundementally wrong with these devices and they are not up to par with others on the market. The response i recieve and i quote "the router if adequite for the service we provide".
I'm sorry but it isn't.
On top of that she ADMITTED she is also with SSE AND HAS THE SAME ISSUE WITH HER ROUTER!!!!
My options are;
Buy my own router at my own expense (no discount on my broadband for my issues) or go to a different provider.
Thats what i was told by the SSE rep on the phone.
Customer service - shocking!

It’s a real shame that it’s not in the least bit reliable!! It is as though when the customer service helpline closes the problems start which in my eyes is unforgivable! Although when you get through to them they advise you to turn the router off on then back on, it’s embarrassing to be honest with you
