What to do before you cancel Origin Broadband
When cancelling any broadband service, you must always check the terms of your contract. Leaving a broadband agreement early can end up being expensive, and the total cost of early termination fees might come as a shock. You’ll also want to have a new broadband deal in place.
Check your contract
Origin Broadband fibre deals have an 18-month minimum term. If you cancel before this time has ended, you’ll have to pay for the remaining months.
Origin customers are in the process of being migrated to Utility Warehouse.
When this broadband migration happens, the terms of contract remain intact. If you're in contract with Origin, this will continue with Utility Warehouse until the contract end date.
Unless it’s unavoidable, you’re better off waiting until the end of your agreement to cancel.
Track down a new broadband deal
Unless you no longer need broadband at all, you’ll want to have a new service ready to go to take over from your cancelled Origin deal.

Cancelling Origin if you’re still in contract
The process for cancelling Origin broadband when you're still in contract is the same. The difference is that you’ll have to pay an early termination charge based on the remaining months on your contract.
Origin now charges a flat fee of 50p for each day remaining on your contract. This will show on your bill as 'Early Termination Charges'.
Cancelling Origin if you’re moving home
If you cancel your Origin broadband contract before the end of its minimum term, you may be charged an early termination fee.
Origin asks that you give at least 18 days notice before moving home.
There's no charge for moving an Origin Phone and Broadband package, and you'll only pay extra if your new package is pricier.
If you choose not to continue with Origin, the early termination charges may apply.
Frequently asked questions about cancelling Origin
-
What is Origin broadband’s notification period?
Origin asks for 30 days' notification to cancel. If you switch providers, you’ll usually be swapped over within about two weeks, so you’ll pay the remaining days in your final bill.
-
Can I keep my phone number when I cancel Origin?
Your phone number can be switched. Make sure to mention this to your new provider when signing up.
-
Can I cancel for free if my Origin broadband is too slow?
Origin hasn't signed on to Ofcom's voluntary broadband speed code of practice, so its customers don't have a right to cancel if the speed is slower than expected, but Utility Warehouse is part of this scheme.
This means it may be possible to be released from a contract early if your service is consistently underperforming. For more information, read our guide: 'can you cancel a broadband contract early?'.
