I just switched last week so early days, but after using talk talk and BT, it a breath of fresh air. The switch over did not go quite to plan due to BT but when I rang the customer support no menu's, no holding, just right through to a UK centre who are brilliant. I checked my speed last week before I switched and it was about 7.00 mb in the morning.(I used 3 checkers to get an average) As soon as I had my line connected I re checked the speed and was getting 18-20 mb. How does that work as its the same line. Anyway, as I said early days but its worth it just for the customer support!

Was satisfied at first but had to contact SSE about dropping diwnload speeds. Seemed to respond for a few months until everything crashed. Now have no landline connection and download speeds of less than 1Mbps. SSE are not responding.

I have a busy household who consume bandwidth like there is no tomorrow. We were with Virgin until last year, but were having problems with the twin boys' xbox gaming, as they were getting kicked off servers in the evenings. Virgin told us there was a faulty bit of kit attached to the same node of us, but they had NO WAY TO LOCATE IT. As soon as we could leave, We did. SSE were doing the fibre intro deals so I snapped up the 78Mb/s package.
It all started out quite well. Speeds seemed fast (I didnt obsess over it and benchmark it every day or anything) but over time the service has got slower and slower and slower. I'm writing this now at 9.08pm and I'm getting 0.59Mb/s on the download cycle, 0.11Mb/s on the upload cycle. We restart the BT fibre box and the shocking Technocolor router (the worst router in the world - official) a couple of times a week. Its still rubbish. Calling SSE broadband is a waste of time. Not once have I spoken with anyone who has any technical skills (I work in IT/networking and know what I'm talking about). The helplines seem to be staffed by young girls trained for sales. Think I'll give them a call tomorrow and tell them I'm cancelling my direct debit in protest at the rubbish broadband speeds I'm getting, see where that goes.
Oh, and dont bother calling them late at night or on a weekend. There is no one there.

Broadband worked well till it failed on sunday am. Found there was no support after 1400 Sat. Spoke to the 1 person on support for phones who thought the broadband line was OK but she didnt have any broadband training. Documentation with the router is non existant. So no advice what to do if you can resolve problems with a power off/on. No info on how to log onto the router admin from a laptop. Found that out by guesswork. Once on I could see a PPP error. But again no info on what user/password I should have set here. No info on whether I should reboot to factory settings from the laptop or the reset 'hole' on back of router. So no broadband for 24 hrs due to lack of support or any support info. Not every customer could have tried fixing these problems, but I could have, if there had been some support paperwork with the router. Seriously considering asking to go back to my old slow& more expensive PhoneCoop provider. They were good & reliable.
Not of this helped by SSE failure to realise the original go live request had failed & thus my cutover was 2 weeks later than required. Plus SSE sent out router only 1 working day before cutover & then set out another on the afternoon after I went live. Overall a shambles of a company for broadband & I wont be recommending it to anybody. Shame as the phone service has been good.

Ok. So i signed up with SSE about 3 years ago (on 18month plan) when the area first became fibre enabled and my existing supplier didnt provide a fibre service. They had a crazy deal on where it was free for the first 6 months.
Ridiculously - they didnt request the fibre connection from BT until the day they took over my line - basically leaving me without internet for a month while I awaited connecting.
However, since then I have had good reliable service. Speed is constantly above 30mb. There was a month where the speeds really dropped off to the extent even a youtube video would buffer and I was barely getting 1mb when I tested - however I emailed and they did some tests and resolved the issue pretty swiftly to be fair.
Since then - aside from (literally a couple of times) where I have just needed to reset the router, I have had no problems at all with the service.
We are moving house in about a month though now so have found myself here looking to see what deals there are and have realised that having been out of contract for a while we are probably overpaying. I suppose given my last experience switching to them has made me nervous about changing again for fear of being left internetless for a month.

We had limited choice of broadband provider as we're renting temporarily and didn't want to be tied into a yearly contract. SSE offer a monthly contract so despite a lot of bad reviews we went ahead and we were impressed right from the start. Customer service has a call back service so we don't have to hold on forever (and they really do call back!) and the advisers are friendly and helpful. We were connected earlier than expected which was great and we've been using it for over a month now with no problems. When we move to our permanent home, we're considering SSE for a longer term contract. Highly recommended!

Very unreliable, ok at times , but so very bad at others. Andn if you want to do something online you really dont want to wait until its ok to do it. Also slow and a lot of buffering. NO from me, wont recomend and wont renew, will leave for a more reliable service asap

Cheap and nasty .you get what you pay for. We were with BT for 14 years with minimal issues. We switched over to SSE for price reasons and sure enough we have a never ending problems. It takes on average 40 minutes to reply any customer service phone lines. I would avoid this like the plague if you’re looking for a broadband provider

The only problem I had was with openreach getting my line connected. my activation date went by and still no service. my account was upscaled to a manager who rang me everyday with updates from openreach. my line was finally connected 6 days late. not sse fault at all. at the end of it a £50 credit was put on my account and my broadband is stable at 68mps. Customer service is good

Well. I have to say what a totally useless internet service! Appalling fibre optic speeds, constantly streaming.
Its cheap for a reason! Customer service is hopeless, i have contacted customer services on numerous occasions and they advise me the service is running as it should.
Well they clearly don't know how to test it or repair it. i was told its an issue with my line, only last year his was all replaced by BT, so I know its not that causing the issues.
Don't sign up for this totally hopeless internet service.
Stick with who you know that provide a usable service.
Totally useless provider that clearly are not up to the game.

Having got fed up with BT's never ending stealth price rises, I looked for alternatives.
For £12 per month line rental with free, unlimited broadband this seems too good to be true.
It's actually much better than I expected.
I know they do traffic management, but I haven't been aware of it happening here yet.

Since day one of switch over from plusnet my speed is in the 5-15MPS when before I was getting 50-70Mps I have given up ringing and waiting for this to get sorted one common excuse is it takes a few days to settle which is utter nonsense I have emailed them requesting disconnection and will go back to plusnet or BT. Don't use this company.

SSE is cheap, has a 1 month contract and the customer service is OK inasmuch as they answer the phone fairly quickly and speak English. However, I have had recurring technical problems, the computer disconnecting from the server even though the signal is strong, dropouts when it is connected, and most of the time a broadband speed of around 0.5Mb - rather less than the "up to 17Mb" promised. SSE customer services seem to be just guessing at the cause, replacing a cable or a filter, blaming it on the line etc. all to no avail. Out of sheer frustration I am now on the verge of moving to another supplier.

I have been an SSE customer for over a year now. The broadband package has been reliable, the speed as promised. I am most impressed with their customer service. Every time I contacted them whether to ask a question regarding my account or to switch tariff- I could not fault their professionalism nor the speed with which they resolve anything. I contacted them today after receiving a letter informing me that the package price will increase next month as my 1 year contract is due to be renewed.I asked to switch to another deal-lower than what I pay now and with the same benefits, which was immediately processed, no questions asked, no trying to sell any other products I might not want or wish to listen to an extensive sale 'pitch'. Simple and forward, 2 minutes phone call with a very friendly and professional call handler. I highly recommend this provider. Thank you

Wow...the worst experience i have ever had dealing with a company. We have been left without internet for about a month.
The Customer service team would say one thing one day and another thing another day. One day they would give us one date and another day another for us to go live.
It became so ridiculous with so much communication and always been told something and that not really being the case, that I eventually had to cancel it to get out of it.
Customer Service people seem to be helping and seem sincere, but it appears to me, they themselves have no idea often about stuff and just come out with something just for the sake of providing an answer.
what a waste of our time!

Worst IPS I've had the misfortune to use. Usually an IPS will have good internet, but bad customer service, or good customer service, but slow internet or faulty equipment. SSE is bad on all fronts. The worst customer service. It was so bad that even their automated password recovery email didn't work. I emailed them 6 times to try and get into my account, and they didn't reply once. I was locked out of my account for 6 months. Long waiting times on the phone just to get hung up on by rude agents or faulty connections. Worst of all was the broadband. It was so inconsistent, I'd have drops outs at least once an hour, forcing me to reset the router. I spend hours, checking all the device drivers, forwarding ports, and troubleshooting wireless receivers because I was in complete disbelief that any broadband connection could be so awful. The moment I switched to BT every single problem I'd had with my internet, even the ones I hadn't suspected were related to SSE went away. Every. Single. One. Do NOT use this company, no matter how much they try to sucker you in with savings. My phone gave me a better internet service.

Oddly after multiple attempts at calling and waiting, I got through to a perfect Customer Service rep
She explained my Billing
SSE being a big company has poor Front end IT and user interface (especially Utility firms)and leaves many confused about billing - the Online experience for SSE, once into ones account is very poor. Big companies suffer from this because of very poor and dogmatic myopic hiring protocol and not thinking outside of the box, thats why I stay small and nimble.
So SSE is not specifically different but could improve significantly.

Switched from BT after nearly 2 years of decreasing speeds and constant loss of service. BT constantly told me there was no problem and that it must be something wrong at my end. I decided to switch to SSE as they were cheaper and was not really expecting an improved service. However, my average speed has now doubled and the connection is constant (it used to drop about 10 times a day with BT). I had one bad day, with dropped connections, a couple of weeks after it was first installed and called SSE - they actually sorted the problem immediately and called me several times over the following days to check that everything was working ok. No problems since. That rare thing - a better than expected service.

Had to take advantage of the free SSE super fast broadband. Switched from BT Infinity.
Router arrived about 10 days before connection day.
Connection day today and followed simple set up guide.
Router connected fine to all devices in the house.
I have a problem with Sky Q On Demand services but I had the very same problem with BT so the problem probably lies with the Sky Q set up.
Download speeds averaging around 24
Upload speeds averaging around 11
The above are about 30% better than what I had previously been getting with BT.
Overall - so far, so good.

Customer service has been awful - broadband delayed by six weeks. They didn't contact us to arrange fitting of the new fibre modem, failed to correctly book a fitting date. On the plus side now installed we are getting 36mb on fibre.

Steer clear of this company. Short hours. No out of hours service. Don't answer emails. Leave you without service for weeks. (This is on broadband and gas/electric). Ultra Fibre broadband is slower than other provider regular broadband. You can send ten emails and do not get one reply

Do not bother with this shower. Signed up to move from BT due to issues with BT. Lord knows why I bothered as BT are far superior based to this shower. SSE told BT my move was scheduled for the 20th March which BT actioned. However Shambolic Service Extrodinaire managed not to tell BT that there were problems - result = no broadband for me. Have wasted at least two hours of my valuable lifespan trying to resolve the issue. SSE not really interested and still cannot give me a date as to when the transfer will be completed. Looking at going cap in hand to BT to go back to them. Suppose the old adage is you get what you pay for, and with SSE you get poor service where they blame the other party until its proven its SSE's fault. Ofcom here I come. They offered £30 to buy a mobile dongle, great if you live in an area where mobile signal is ok - guess what, I do not. When I told them that no other offer made.

So we went through Uswitch as recommended by a friend and up popped SSE with the best deal, contacted them also and decided to take out the “Unlimited Fibre” package which is speeds up to 38Mbps. At the start it was ok speed but not great ranging between 14Mbps - 18Mbps and as the months went on it then began to decline at a steady pace we are currently 10 months into our 18 month contract and we average between 1Mbps - 2Mbps with an average upload of 0.5Mbps. Broadband is absolutely atrocious, the worst we have ever had. We where told to expect some issues with speed and connectivity from time to time but this is a joke, told that if we wanted to cancel we would have to pay a colossal sum of money to make up for the months remaining that SSE will lose out on. We currently pay £23 a month but this “Unlimited Fibre” is normally a £47 per month package.

I was with sse fibre broadband for a couple of weeks when the problems began, I had 2 main problems 1: complete loss of broadband, 2:Speed dropping to less than 512kbps,this happened many times over a 6 month period, when I complained they kept going through the same rigmarole, I told them many times that I had done the test required by them, each time, and knew what to do, as I am a qualified computer engineer. They wouldn't send a engineer out,and the problem remained. Even after contacting the ombudsman and providing evidence of the problems, nothing was done. Oddly enough ,6 months after the initial complaint, when I told Sse that I had complained to the ombudsman the speed improved, I got a regular speed of 38.6 mbps until september, when the ombudsman failed me and I pulled out of the contract. I was informed by a close friend, who us an ex-fibre broadband engineer that it is BT openreach's fault as they are known to reduce speeds purposely, to encourage you to either upgrade or to move over to B.T. Its a huge con and nobody does anything about it because B.T are in control.

SSE customer service is literally non existent. We have been with them over a year for electric and broadband and had very little reason to contact them. Until this month when we didn’t get the usual email that our bill was due. I pay every month on time without fail. This month no email so I went onto the account to pay when we didn’t get the email and it says account inactive and we owe £0 and does not allow me to make a payment. Our internet is still up and running mind you. For over a week I have tried every single contact method available and have not once got anywhere. Live chat agent told me to call and ended chat. WhatsApp tells me to call. Email they provide on invoice is defunct and says to call. So I call and call and call and call. I complain and they immediately close the complaint. Honestly I’m sick of trying to pay them now and will just switch. Honestly don’t bother. The speeds are good but god forbid you ever need to contact them.

Avoid at all costs. If there was a zero rating I would definitely choose that for the Speed and reliability options above.
I have been having issues with this service since signing up some 6 months ago.
Firstly, the package which I signed up for was only partially taken over which meant even though I had ordered Telephone, Calls and Broadband in a package they only ported over the telephone line and not the broadband too. This meant that I was being billed from them for the full package and from my previous supplier for the broadband too.
Having since rectified this and since the broadband has been provided by SSE I have had barely any service with intermittent complete drop outs if it works at all.
I went through all their tests and still there were issues I asked for a new router and they never sent one. I also called back and they said that they had closed the complaint as they called me and no one answered - how about leaving a message???
I called to let them know I would be going with another supplier and they tried to pull the old "termination fee" being in the "terms and conditions of the contract" to which I politely reminded the call handler, through a muffled laugh, that it was indeed them who were in breach of contract and that they are more than welcome to pursue me under breach of contract if they foolishly believed they would indeed win.
