Infinity Broadband - what is it?

Infinity Broadband is the marketing name for BritishTelecom's new Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC) broadband infrastructure.

FTTC involves BT laying a fibre optic cable to the cabinet in (or near) your street. This allows them to offer much higher broadband speeds (both download and upload) than traditional broadband over your phone line.

Top speeds will initially be up to 40Mb download and up to 10Mb upload.

Sounds great, can I get it?

Unfortunately out of over 5000 telephone exchanges in the UK only 28 are currently enabled, and just over another 100 are due to be enabled during 2010.

BT are planning further roll outs in 2011 and 2012 to cover larger areas of the UK.

See the tables below to see if your telephone exchange is among those being enabled this year.
