Absolutely dreadful broadband and telephone provider. Broadband was totally unreliable, connection was rubbish and the router was outdated. When I first took the contract with talk talk, it was the cheapest around but recently I have found cheaper and better service with Sky. I didn't have a direct debit set up with talk talk because of a banking issue and I was charged an extra £14 a month because of this (£10 'admin charge' and £4 non-direct debit payment charge), this is an extortionate sum which was more than half of the price of my package. Internet connection was poor and would go on and off.

TalkTalk is the worst provider ever. Not only did their internet not work either fast (max 5 Mbps), it also crashed regularly. Because of these issues, I wanted to change provider. However, they wanted to fix the problem first (fair enough), within a 28 day window.
After more than 6 hours (!!!!!!) of conversation on the phone with their attempts to fix the issue remotely, they send an engineer. The engineer found the issue to be a hardware issue on the line somewhere outside the house, and told me a second engineer would soon come to fix it. After another 9 days, no one came the 28 day period was over and I wanted to finally cancel the line. However, on the phone, they gave me dubious reasons why I could not cancel it. First, apparently the issue had been fixed 14 days ago (which clearly it had not been!), and second, they wanted more time to send an engineer (after 28 days with no proper internet!).
The worst of it all, however, was that TalkTalk never kept me updated regarding the issue. They promised me 7 times to call me back "within 72 hours" - and then never did. I had to call the tech team again (after an additional 24 hours I gave them), but they never had any information regarding the issue. This is outrageous. Especially because it always takes at least 20 minutes until you have a person on the line who you can talk to. If you call them every 5 days or so, it will cost you HOURS of waiting on the phone, which is just waisted time!
What's worse: If you do want to cancel, you still have to call the tech team first. That's 30 minutes of standardized questions (you already answered about 100 times), before they forward you to the "loyalty team" where you can cancel. There, they will ask you the SAME questions (another 10 minutes of your time), before telling you that you cannot cancel.
That's when you start arguing, but to no end... There are some Indians on the other line, who tell you they have to follow procedure, and cannot allow you to cancel just now. WTF?

    Absolute shocking level of service!!

Here is the build up and as to why you must stay CLEAR of this company. Yes they advertise everywhere... but fail to deliver (literally).

As a business broadband customer for almost 12 years (Freedom2Surf, then Tiscali, which was then taken over by the muppets called TalkTalk) - i was hoping my switch over to a residential Simply Broadband package would be smooth. Being on the TalkTalk Business Broadband tarrif my internet was incredibly slow and I was recommend to switch over to Residentual to have a faster speed. My telephone line was with another provider and so switching to TalkTalk line rental and Anytime package made sense

Basically Telephone line and Broadband would be under one provider and a much cheaper cost.

I was sent letters and emails confirming the switch over date together with a brand new Modem/Router for the Simply Broadband package delivered to my house.

When the switchover date came I was left disconnected at the exchange, thereby no longer receiving telephone calls and loss of Broadband.

This hugely affected my business, deliveries were delayed, communication to suppliers disrupted and with the loss of internet we were totally down.

Worse still the Customer Service agents - were awful. I can only describe them as being totally amateurish as they did not even have a clue what, how and why the switch over didn't happen.

I contacted both TalkTalk Residential Support and the TalkTalk Business Support to at least find out what happened. TalkTalk Residential said somehow you have been disconnected and that they had to reconnect me and my original telephone line is now lost because I have been disconnected. I can request to reconnect but then I will be given a new number!!! This is the telephone number that I have had for 20 years!! Can you imagine my horror!!

OK...so I thought lets speak to the TalkTalk Business Team and see if they can help. The TalkTalk Business were even more frustrating!! Going through the usual steps of Caller Idenfication they asked me the usual (Name, Address, Account Number) and although I answered every question they claim the Security Question I replied to was incorrect!

They refused to take my call further!

I had to eventually Facebook them to complain of the horrendous level of service. And 2 days later I received an email and call from one of their CEO Directors!

The discussion with the CEO went along the lines of trying to establish what happened - and this CEO refuse to even accept any responsibility that it was their mistake.

I had enough!! One call to BT and they got me connected.

For anyone reading and thinking TalkTalk are cheap, cheerfull and have a fantastic package? Think again...

Do not bother with TalkTalk. The internet speeds (providing you can actually connect to the Internet which you most likely won't be able to do with this steaming heap of shit of an ISP) are absolutely horrendous. It's almost like being back on dialup it's so bad. It's a disgrace they can get away with charging people for a service which is virtually non existent.

Firstly of all talk talk is unreliable. While I am making this review, the connection fell to one bar and I am right next to the router because of Talk Talk i lost all my work i was doing. For the people who are considering buying this I plead you not to. I find this experience dreadful. I had to use my phone data to use the internet and to do my work. If you mostly doing work through internet don't get Talk Talk.

Been with Talk talk for 5 months, awful broadband so bad you can't connect to a phone and laptop at the same time!

Engineer installed the main socket in the back bedroom knowing we had the TV package, I then had to pay for the connectors, they didn't want to move the socket, they blamed BT and I blamed them MY provider! I was so fed up of so many calls to the Indian call centre, emails, them not understanding my issue, I took it upon myself to contact Dido Harding via Linked in (admittedly I had a few wines) Low and behold within two working days I had a response from the CEO office Agreed for a Talk talk engineer to come out, turns out the original adapters were faulty. TV up and running but the broadband (I think currently) is 5.6 and 0.58. Awful!!!

    AVOID

I'm moving and have found I cannot cancel my contract I have to pay until January 2016. Unfortunately when I took out the contract I had no intention of moving, however I have just exchanged contracts and have a completion date for 7 days time. This is where my nightmare begins, it appears I cannot have my phone disconnected in my current property as they insist on 30 days notice. I have accepted I have to pay to get out of the contract, I even agreed I would pay whatever I might owe before I move. However Talk Talk refuse to disconnect my phone line all I can do is bar my current number otherwise the new owners can use the service at my expense until 3rd August when the 30 day notice period expires. I called ofcom who said that 7-10 notice to disconnect the line is reasonable and as I am not refusing to pay all exit fees etc there shouldn't be a problem. Ofcom advised me to raise a complaint with the ombudsman should Talk talk still refuse to disconnect my landline. I have told Talk Talk I will escalate my complaint but they will not budge they refuse to disconnect my phone. I have said I will pay extra to have it disconnected but the answer is NO I didn't give 30 days notice. This must affect lots of people as it not unusual for people not to know their exact moving date 30 days in advance when buying/selling property. Talk Talk refuse to budge, customer satisfaction and good PR means nothing. They do not care about customers at all, they are not gaining additional money from me by refusing to disconnect my phone as I have to pay them close to £200 just to get out of the contract! I have never encountered a company so unwilling to provide a pleasant customer service experience. I will NEVER use Talk Talk again and would advise anyone to steer clear. This company do not see customers as people who pay there wages we are just an inconvenience to them and they do not care in the slightest about customer satisfaction. All I wanted was for my phone to be disconnected on the day I move or shortly after, I am will pay any monies I owe under the contract I am stuck with, but really is it too much to ask for my phone to be disconnected when I move? I have never encountered this with any other telecoms company. I can honestly say this is the worst service I have ever received. How simple would it be to just say you are liable for all these charges but as a gesture of goodwill we will disconnect your phone on the day you move. I am self employed and wanted to keep my telephone number but Talk Talk seem determined I won't. I was able to keep my number transferring from BT to Talk Talk but not if I want to transfer back to BT. This company has a shocking disregard for their customers. If you want to keep your sanity AVOID this company!

Talk talk broadband+customer service+engineers are absolutely RUBBISH! You have to buy a package then they can find out whether it's working for your flat or not!! After 55 minutes talking with customer service on my credit they said we need to send an engineer! It took 12 days for them to send an engineer because all slots were full and they don't do after 6pm. Was happy when engineer knocked my door... Before testing anything or asking any questions he said problem should be from BT! Carried out a 2 minute test and said we'll arrange a BT engineer to come and check the line! It's now 8 days passed with no news!!!!! You better off pay more money to go with other broadband providers to get better quality and service!

Just switched to Super Fast Broadband with Talk Talk and it is appalling, the router Admin doesn't work with Chrome (they identified this issue in 2014 with other customers, its on the talk talk Community site, but they haven't bothered to sort it out since then). I work from home so broadband reliability is key, at present the connectivity drops every 5 minutes, I've been told it could take at least 5 days to fix it and by the way your option to cancel your contract with Talk Talk at short notice is 14 days OR until they say the service is 'Live', as far as Talk Talk are concerned my system is Live. The fact that it drops connectivity every 5 minutes and is unusable doesn't matter. Luckily my wife is a solicitor and she has checked the contract if they don't resolve issues within 28 days you have a get out......doesn't really help short term though !!!! When calling talk talk support, if they have logged and issue, the message automatically says call back in 5 days (72 hours) if they have logged a call, doesn't matter if you have another technical issue, if you have one outstanding issue, thats it, you can't speak to a technical rep for 5 days! The only way I've managed to get round this is to request to to speak to the cancellation team, they answer the phone, explain you are cancelling your contract, they then put you through to Tech Support. This is the only way that I find works!

It seems unnecessary given the amount of reviews here, but I'd just like to add another - I would avoid Talktalk like the plague.

Having moved house to a new place that already had a Talktalk line my only option was to pay nearly £200 to have my old contract cancelled - all I wanted was to remain a customer!

Six months later it's still going on - I threatened to leave and they backtracked, promising I could change the contract to another one and give one month's notice - needless to say there conveniently "isn't any record" of this, and now I'm getting demands for another payment.

They even have the cheek to have their computer demand payment when you call BEFORE you can speak to an operator - pretty much sums up their attitude to their customers.

Super slick sales team, mother of hell service and support. God help you if you need tech support - this will be the worst customer service experience you will ever have. 5 days for an Open Reach engineer to turn up - simple job took an hour - spent many many hours on the phone to some screen jockey in some far flung country with no authority, ability or will to do anything. totally useless, beyond belief. All they had to do was to tell me when an engineer was coming but they know and do nothing except send an e-mail ticket, no follow up, no ownership, no accountability - totally pathetic. the CEO should be sacked - it's moronic to run a company like this. Do not sign up to this company. Flip side when it's all working I'm a happy bunny but will look for another provider at the end of the contract. Come back SKY all is forgiven.

Talktalk misadvised me before my home move (to a valley location where only Satelllite works, it turns out). They signed me up to Fibre Optic, saying about how I could get better TV reception, signed me up to a package I can't use, not only want to charge £50 fee for withdrawal from the TV element, but will withdraw 6 months of the discount on Fibre Optic access I had
been given. I end up paying over £100 or more for their misadvice. No apology. I'm going to take this further, this is not the first ABSOLUTELY RUBBISH customer service I have had from this outfit.

Absolutely horrible Internet from this company. Max download speed is around 500kb/s which is terrible and the router disconnects and can't seem to handle more than 1 device being connected at once. Web pages load up incredibly slowly, can't watch Netflix or YouTube and even social media apps on my phone don't load up when I'm connected to the WiFi. Horrible company.

Fed up with poor internet connections and forever having to try and fix problems myself, re booting, re setting, all on the advice of talk talk none of which works,i wanted an engineer to come and see if he could sort it out but they wanted £50 to send out the engineer simply not good enough as far as i'm concerned if the services i buy from Talktalk aren't working they should sort them out but they just not interested, customer services in some far off land with poor grasp of English, i have a you view box which takes 4 mins from switching my TV on until i get a picture on the screen! tried all the self fixes from Talktalk, basically its a joke they obviously use cheap equipment and when things go wrong don't want to know, everything about this company is slow and useless, i'm in the process of going back to BT can't wait.

Talk Talk should rename themselves JokeJoke.. what a bunch of incompetents... the crappiest broadband ever, worse than it was 20 years ago on dial up... I've had problems for months with pathetic broadband speeds from them, so much so that i can't even download my e-mails most of the time... I've rung them many times & it's really are hard work talking on the phone with them.. I've changed my modem, the filters & all the connecting cables & still no joy.. when I do an online broadband test it comes back as approx 220kb download & about 40kb upload... as I said earlier... worse than it was years ago on dial up... according to talk talk there's no problem, but they have admitted I'm on a very old copper line... why don't i upgrade to fiber they say... well if
i do it wont be with talk talk... I'm only in contract with them for a few more months so it'll be bye bye forever to them then.... they just don't have any customer services at all... avoid this company like the plague...

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! If a Talk Talk operator does not know what to do with you, they will just transfer you to another operator! What happened was I changed the date of installation to another date. Then found out that they cancelled this appointment with no apparent reason and I had to be put back in queue again. When I complained, I was put through from one operator to another (7 in total) resulting in a 1hr22 mins call to resolve my problem. When I called back 3 days before my installation date, the operator could not find my account details, despite me giving him my account number and my address, I was put through to another dept until finally I I had enough and asked to make a formal complaint and was put through to their customer loyalty dept. and CANCELLED MY ACCOUNT. I presumed it was done but then found that they took one month payment from my bank account! DO NOT GO FOR TALK TALK BECAUSE IT IS CHEAP BECAUSE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY!

Been with these idiots for a week, I used to have Tesco broadband until they sold their customers down the river without a paddle. I used to be able to stream videos and play games online with Tesco, now the internet disconnects everytime I try to use broadband for two things. After 2 days of this so called broadband provider I was looking to leave them, after a week I will look at what offers are about. These people don't deserve 1 star rating for anything. If your looking at these for broadband, try somewhere else.

I live in a rural area, and after looking through these reviews I've come to the conclusion that my talktalk fibre optic broadband must be faulty. I get just over 33mb which is only 5mb down from the 'upto' 38mb advertised, I am a mile away from the exchange in our village, not a problem. My phone connection has been perfect. I have the plus tv package. The YouView box that talktalk supply isn't the best, just ok there. I have my tv, blueray, Sky, YouView and my AV reciever plus my computer and multi mobile phones conneted to the internet 24/7 and not a hitch when watching films on netflixs, youtube etc. I must say the service, for me, is excellent. I've been with talktalk for over four years.

I would recommend anyone that values at all their money to stay miles away from TalkTalk. I have a Fibre contract which is more like a poor broadband in reality. They give you a YouView box to watch freeview and any other rental and purchases, but the quality of signal is so bad with it, that we have had to unplugged the box and resolve to our own antenna which give us no problems. The kids package is very poor and in most of occasions giving you errors, so we end up entertaining our kids with You Tube. Don't get fool by them like we did, after 5 months of a very dissapointing service, if we want to close our contract we have to pay a £350 pounds fee. WORST PROVIDED IN THE ENTIRE UK!

Reasonable fibre broadband, but absolutely shocking customer support and technical service. Every single time you ring them you get a completely different answer. You wait in for appointments that haven't been booked. You don't get callbacks. Their customer support is an absolute mess.

absolutely the worst company i have ever had to deal with for customer service. took a month after 'go-live date' to even get broadband working. first iof all i waited a week for them to get back to me, they didnt because they decided there was no failt and closed the call without telling me. around 15 phone calls and many hours to various idiots, starting again from the beginning as they seem to have no knowledge of faults. when they had finally 'investigated' and
texted me to say i need to call them to book an engineer, i called and was told they could not book one because they couldnt see that message on the system. tried again a few days later, helpful chap took three possible dates i would be in for an engineer to visit. engineer did not visit. no contact
until i get more texts saying i need to ring to book an engineer...... Avoid this company at all costs.

What an abysmal customer service and organisation. For 15 years, I had very little problems with AOL - but since TalkTalk took over it`s been a disaster. My internet was cut-off because they claimed my payments were in arrears, and that my card had been rejected twice.
Now this is the good bit! - TalkTalk are trying to take payments from the bank on a card that expired years ago, and they tell me that my current address does not match. Well, that`s because the address they have for me is 13 years old!! Further more, the monthly payments have been made when they should have been - TO AOL according to my bank. They have now, despite two long `phone conversations still not updated my details.
However, that is now immaterial,as I had decided weeks ago to change my provider over to BT - How refreshing to be able to talk to someone who can express themselves and fully understand the Queen`s English!
Here`s a tip - AVOID ANYTHING TO DO WITH TALKTALK AT ALL COSTS!

Was with AOL for years but since Talk Talk took over nothing but problems. Unable to access account despite numerous phone calls. Just changed to BT but Talk Talk still insist they are connected as well.. technically impossible and still want to charge me.They state BT had not told them of migration BT dispute this especially as its a BT phone line and not Talk Talk line. Steer clear of Talk Talk I shall be glad to see the back of them. BT service and speed is great 5 stars to them

Never known a company like it they well and truely know how to mess everything up. Someone in the company stole £30 from us and they just keep trying to cover it up. Someone thought they would pay themselfs abit extra that day! If u don't check your bills then u could also be having extra money go from your account into their pockets

Talktalk is a complete disaster in every way possible.

    1. The broadband seldom works at capacity, when it is working you can expect to have web pages not displayed owing to their web filtering software which even when off creates page load times circa 1980s dial up.

    2. Customer services - From extensive knowledge of dealing with customer services from weekly calls you will be lucky to speak to someone who speaks more than broken english if more than a few grunts. You will be exceptionally lucky if your not cut off at the first time of the call being difficult to handle e.g its not on the list they have in front of them. I broke my previous record when trying to cancel the service being cut off a staggering 8 times during the process, and they definitely won't call back so don't hold your breath.

    3. If your fortunate and manage to get the service cancelled without paying the remainder of the contract which they are all to happy to throw back in your face and demand a complete payment for despite it not working you will be then presented with the issue they will just not perform the cancellation and continue billing it !

Talktalk is a complete shambles from technical side, customer service side and even customer loyalty and cancellations cant seem to do the most sensible thing and just cancel the bad service.

Thoroughly looking forward to Ombudsman looking into our case in due course.

In my experience the worst Customer Support I have ever encountered. My go live date was 10th June 2015 and it took 15 days of complaining for it to get sorted out.

The Customer Service was a joke. They had no interest in attempting to fix my problem. Simply told to turn router off for 30 minutes and try again or else phone back tomorrow and maybe it will be fixed.

Now that I am live the speed is woeful compared to what I was advertised as getting. Stuck in an 18 month contract.

I will be leaving TalkTalk at the earliest opportunity.

A bunch of time wasters. I was happy with my talktalk broadband package and it worked ok. They phoned me and told me for the price I was paying I could have a free Youview box with catch up TV if I signed up for anothe 18 months. They said I needed a speed of 4Mbps for it to work and since I was getting 6+ Mbps it would work fine. This is when all the trouble began. After the new router and Youview box was set up the internet speed went down to 3.1Mbps and my TV buffered and was impossible to watch. I complained but all I got was a customer service idiot trying to tell me (I am an Electrical Engineer) that I had not set it up properly and they said the fault was inside my house and if I wanted an Engineer to come out if he found a fault inside the house or if he could not find any fault it would cost me £65. If I missed the appointment it would cost me £25. Since I new the fault was not in my house I booked an Engineers visit for "AFTER" 3:30pm as I am out 'til then. No Engineer appeared. WhenI got my next bill there was a £25 missed appointment charge on it. I phoned and complained they said they had a picture of my front door and the Engineer had been. I refused to accept this and told them to stick their broadband they removed the £25 charge and booked another Engineer. Same rules applied as before. My wife happened to be off work that day and the engineer arrived at 10am. He told her they don't get appointment times they just work through the list of jobs as the see fit. He checked everything and said my end was fine and there didn't appear to be a fault on the line either. He adjusted my router settings and left me with a speed of 6.3Mbps every thing worked fine for about 1 week then the speed dropped and the buffering started again. I phoned and got the usual script quoted at me unplug this reboot that we are going to carry out checks on your line bla bla bla bla same same every time. Still no fix but I was told my speed was "Locked " at 6Mbps and I should have no more trouble. 2 days later 3Mbps No matter how often you phone you get the same crap and it is impossible to get things fixed. Don't go near this useless mob. Indian customer service transferring you to the Philippines who claim to be the "experts" they couldn't lace a pair of boots. Be warned Try BT or Sky or anyone but them you will pull your hair out with frustration.

Whatever you do don't sign up for Talk Talk. I cannot stress this enough. I tried to change ownership of my account as i was moving flats and they made me resubmit the form via post a total of 4 times. The first time was because my info was scanned, the sceond attempt was rejected because I didnt tick the correct box. The third because i didnt refernce a number i didn't even use. a complete waste of my time! DO NOT USE TALK TALK. Their customer service ppl where a nightmare without offering any solutions. Absolutely horrifying.
