I was without any internet at all for the first two weeks after my start date. When they finally got me connected I quickly realised I'd made a mistake switching to talktalk. Very poor reliability, internet frequently just switches off, often several times a day. Viewing movies or catch up tv becomes very frustrating when you lose the internet for up to an hour each time. I can't wait for my contract to end so I can go back to Virgin Media. Talk talk may be cheap but you get rubbish sevice in return. I wouldn't recommend using them, pay a little more for a decent ISP.

The worst service provider with the worst customer service, none of my complaints were dealt with satisfactorily. Not once did I receive the promised refund for having NO Broadband or No phone service ( continually ) yet a full year after cancelling my contract I still receive monthly bills. Talk Talk ??? I think not !!! You will definitely NOT Talk Talk.

I would give no stars if i could. The worst service provider ever, the broadband is very slow or not working. They refuse to help with any issues at all, if fact all they do is try to sell you more rubbish kit or packages that you don't need. i will leave as soon as my contract completes.

TalkTalk customer of 8 years - currently on Fibre Large.

Up until a month ago I was for the majority happy with TalkTalk, a few hiccups with their obismal tech support that I eventually forgot about, until:

My upload was a constant 17Mb/s suddenly drops to less than 8Mb/s. Bizzarely at one point their tech support were trying to convince me that 8.2 was a smaller figure than 7.9 - I'm still perplexed by this. I can't really put into words what just happened? I can only say it is a bizarre feeling when someone is blatently lying and treating you like a fool while you pay for it.

I was hung up on. Call backs from managers were 3 rings, then disconnected before I could even answer. No offer of escalation until today when I said I had vodaphone on the other line while trying to cancel my contract. The issue has been going on for a month and only today was there an offer for engineer assisstance. I can only say that in my 30 years IT experience, their knowledge is inept at best. Every issue requires requires a new router (time buying)... I have at least 2 HG533 and the god awful 633 that would drop every half hour.

Their network has went to hell from around mid to end of July. I spend the first 15 minutes of every call repeating my postcode. Jesus Christ, it's only 6 digits. Thanks for nothing TalkTalk.

Very slow to upload photos or even files of 1mb. Poor customer service, won't let you upgrade to fibre unless 3 months bills have been paid. Only switched 2 months ago, suffice to say have told them to cancel & will not be paying early termination as they cannot provide a service which meets my needs. No access to online account yesterday, website down today. Good news is you no longer need a mac code to transfer internet providers so have switched back to my previous provider.

The worst "fast" broadband provider ever. We have speed that is 30 times slower than it should be. Tried calling multiple times but nothing happened. Customer service sucks and does nothing. After last call they told us "they have to optimize" for ten days. Well you know what **** YOURSELF, WE ARE CHANGING PROVIDER!

This company has to be without doubt the worst in the UK, I asked for an extension to be put on my account for 30 days which they agreed too, then cut off my services before the date was up waffling on about the unpaid bill, then continued to lie and lie that the ban had been lifted, spent 2 hours on hold having to endure the same rubbish from people who haven't a clue my cat could do a better job, so to anyone thinking of getting Internet from this beyond appalling company DONT run a mile, and Talk Talk 3 cheers for being the worst of the worst.

Have had talktalk broadband for around 10yrs recently i upgraded to fibre along with TV package.
I got an email confirming my go live date for the fibre but nothing about TV package. I phoned Talktalk to inquire about the TV and was told there was no order placed so i placed another order, again after a few days no confirmation email and nothing on my account. Another phone call and was told no order placed so again reordered and was told i would get an email confirming delivery but of course no email arrived. Must be the worst customer service ever! They seem to want to keep you on the phone yet the call is free, i was put on hold 3 times for 10mins on one call so the agent could look at my account. Also they will promise you all sorts of things not to cancel but take my advise its all lies CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT!

THE WORST COMPANY TO GO WITH BY FAR! PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF AND RUN. RUN AS FAR AWAY FROM TALKTALK AS YOU CAN. "AWFUL" CUSTOMER SERVICE DOESNT EVEN DO IT JUSTICE. I ACTUALLY FEEL SO ANGRY AFTER SPEAKING TO THEM. THEY MADE ME CRY AFTER BEING ON THE PHONE FOR FOUR AND A HALF HOURS TRYING TO CANCEL AT THE BEGINNING- BEFORE THEY EVEN SORTED MY INTERNET!!- TELLING ME, 'NO, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CANCEL...YOU MUST GIVE US MORE TIME ( I had already given them three weeks to fix my problem) AND YOU CANNOT LEAVE. WHAT???? THEY TRAPPED ME INTO STAYING IN THEIR TERRIBLE PACKAGE. SERIOUSLY. RUN.

Worst custoner service experience in my life. I clearly stated I can only make engineering apointnents on saturdays. I was advised there might be no need for an engineering consultation. However after signing the contract I did receive the date for an engineering apointment during the week.

I contacted the chat support and was than advised, there was no need for an engineering apointment, I should cancel this order and place a new one without engineering, therefor I should contact the phone support.

60min later and after going through 5 departments....placing the new order finally the guy tells me: "There are three dates for an engineering appointment, which one do you want?"

Despite my explanation this order should be without engineering appointment the guy kept on tellung me it was needed. He totally ignored anything I said, told me I should trust my neighbor they could open the door, he ignored that I asked for canceling the whole order, my demand for a manager and just went on with setting up an apointment.....by than actually my phone went off.

I received the cancelation from one order and I hope the second never has been approved, which I will find out today....and I apology to all people who had to listen to this phone conversation while I was sitting in a cafe, they acually suggested to go to Virgin, so I will take the advice.. Have a nice day, TalkTalk!

I rejoined TalkTalk last summer via Quidco.

Plagued by constant disconnections, just as Working From Home was becoming a big deal.

Contacted Customer Support, must've wasted ~12 hours over 3 months (not exagerrating) being gaslit by the most unhelpful team of barely understandable dolts that ever wore a mic headset. They insisted everything was fine CONSTANTLY, even after the engineer visited and said otherwise (which they only sent after I spent many hours on the phone going through the same damn tests over and over).

They gave me the same stupid advice about WiFI being the issue many times - even when I established early on that all my devices are connected via Ethernet cable!

I finally got them (after more hours wasted on the phone) to waive the termination fee and let me leave for a competent ISP.

Incidentally, I was with them years ago also - back during the big data breach in 2015. Luckily no one stole my identity.

If you have no technical issues, then the speeds are decent. But you'll regret it if you ever have to phone them - they are simply the worst.

The English language struggles to describe just how abysmal TalkTalk are.
Strictly speaking, it is difficult to rate them as an "Internet Service Provider", since they neither provide any sort of reliable internet connection, nor anything that could be described as "service".

Internet speeds on the rare occasion that you can get an acceptable connection (basically if no-one within a 2 mile radius is using their internet) are not too bad, around 6 Mbps, but if you plan on using the internet during peak times then this drops to around 0.1Mbps, not far off dial-up speeds in rural communities in the early 1990's.

TalkTalk appear not to have a "customer services department", rather they have opted for a "pushy sales department", who will phone uninvited to offer you more stuff that doesn't work. After asking for an email as to when my contract would be up and I could finally escape this purgatory, around 7 phone calls later they eventually sent me it. Sadly I still have 7 months to go.

Their "Now TV" box which they were advertising is actually nothing more than a glorified iPlayer aggregater, and doesn't let you record series or any TV which happens not to be available on iPlayer. As such, the TV package is entirely useless, and you would get significantly more entertainment using the £5 a month to go to the cinema once a month.

Telephone line is fine, but for some reason the caller ID feature never works.

All in all they provide a cheap service, but you are actually paying a lot for what you get. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

They have much lower costs than competitors but it comes with negatives.

My Wi-Fi hub arrived broken in two parts. When I tried to call them, it took over 30 minutes for them to answer. Keep in mind, I called during a weekday in the morning.

Had talktalk broadband for over a year and never got the 40MB speed that i signed up for, i was receiving 5MB tops when it chose to work. Had constant dropping connection so could not use it at all. Rang talktalk customer service at least 6 times and never got anywhere at all. The staff member i spoke to had me disassemble the connection box with a screwdriver which i think is very unacceptable to start with, im paying for a service which doesnt work and they couldnt even send out an engineer to help. After giving them 28 days to sort the problem they eventually let me cancel my braodband without paying the remaining amount of the contract. Also when i phoned to cancel i was put on hold for 50 minutes and noone came back to confirm it had been canceled then made me give 30 days notice so i had to keep it for another month. worst broadband and customer service ever!

Terrible provider. I have been waiting 4 months for installation as they keep sending the wrong team to do the job, or noone turns up when arranged.

A third party company talks to you, who then talk to talktalk, who then talk to BT. They all cream off a bit of profit for providing no service and it's impossible to arrange anything as you cannot speak to BT directly. A complete racket.

Initially talk talk was value for money. But the company rocketed the price ( price is being increased) and quality of service is gradually shrinking. I need to separate about one hour for getting customer service.

Appalling customer service. Have continued to charge me for an account they admitted was closed. Now refusing to tell me how much or when they might refund me despite admitting liability. No promised call back from a manger instead 40 minutes on the phone with no progress - refused to action as a complaint or comply with GDPR request. Just told they will investigate at some point but not now.

Worst broadband and worst customer service. Broadband connection and internet was patchy throughout my time. Due to their worst customer service I had to continue with patchy internet and worst connection. None of their agents know what is the process and you will be transferred to various department who have nothing do with your issue. I was out through to fully fibre team for cancellation and after 1hr in the call had to disconnect and call back to know that their fully fibre team have left home 15mins before. The best part is I called them the next day to be answered by a rude agent from fully fibre team who did not want to listen to a word on what I was saying and transferred me back to the cancellation team again after 15mins wait I disconnected and called them back to let them know I did not want to renew my contract. How silly was I to think cancelling your contract after it ends will be a straight forward request. Never will I ever recommend or join Talk Talk in near future. Don’t be fooled by their offers and deals you will regret it later.

    MY EXPERIENCE WITH TALKTALK.

I switched from my previous Broadband provider to TalkTalk on 14/7/22.

My reasons for switching were: 1) my previous provider was going to increase their monthly cost by an unreasonable amount.
    2) I was getting nothing more in return for the unjustified price increase.

After using a comparison website, I decided to go with TalkTalk. - THIS WAS A BIG MISTAKE AS I SHOULD HAVE DONE MY RESEARCH FIRST ON TALKTALK BEFOREHAND!!!

I started to receive update emails telling me that my service would go live on 29/8/22 and that “Fast Broadband Speed Is Coming!”…

After receiving my TalkTalk router and setting it up, I performed a Speed Test… I was receiving a download speed of 0.96 Mbps and an upload speed of 0.43 Mbps!!!! This is utterly PATHETIC!!! - Also at this point, I’d like to point out that TalkTalk “Guarantee” a MINIMUM speed of 7 Mbps to (strangely, and again, quite pathetically!) 1 Mbps…!

For those of you unfamiliar with such slow Mbps speeds: Simple web pages will not load correctly or fully. YouTube videos will constantly buffer. Netflix movies are unwatchable. You’ll be lucky if you can get the app to load at all!!

I was NOT even getting their ABSOLUTE MINIMUM that they “Guarantee”…

So these are the first & second issues right out of the box, day one! - Incredibly slow speed and a speed LESS than what they guarantee, and NO WHERE NEAR the upper end (7 Mbps) of what they “Guarantee”!

I then attempted to contact their Customer Service Line (I’m putting their number here for convenience, because if you DO make the same mistake I did and decide to go with TalkTalk, you’re going to need it… A LOT! 0345 172 0088).

This was also a terrible experience and nothing shot of vastly frustrating and awkward. - You initially get through to an automated service… The problem is, it’s voice recognition based. I can tell you this system DOES NOT work well or is even remotely effective! The system does not recognise what you are saying, who you are, what your mobile # is, and the reason why you are calling… Eventually after going through this highly frustrating and unreliable system, you get through to a person… This is where the frustration increases substantially!!! - Firstly, they are based in an office / call centre most likely NOT in the UK… Secondly, it’s one of those ridiculously noisy call centres where the ambient background noise is deafening!!

Whatever ‘training’ that the staff there have, it is completely inadequate and ineffective. - There’s more to customer service than just saying “Sorry” and “I apologise” 100 x on a phone call with a customer…

After just about managing to fight through the Customer ID / Security Checks which involved me repeating myself multiple times, I told the TalkTalk person what the issue was (VERY slow speeds). I’d like to point out here, that this is the third issue: A completely shambolic Customer Service call centre that has to be accessed through a highly frustrating, barely functioning voice recognition system…

The TalkTalk person on the phone told me that there is usually an initial 7 - 9 day period where the line “Settles Down”, and if the slow speed persists they will send an engineer to assess the external street box equipment…

This is nothing short of a lie!! - I have been informed by an 18 yr veteran of telecommunications that a line will either do 1 of 3 things: 1. It will either work very well. 2. It will either work very poorly. 3. It will not work at all. - It will CERTAINLY NOT change its status / performance after having a “Settling down” period!! It is what it is!! - And in TalkTalk’s case this line worked very VERY poorly!!

BE ADVISED: Being told to wait for a “Settling Down” period is TalkTalk’s way of stalling their customers from cancelling their service… If its poor speed from day 1, its always going to be poor speed. - The following backs up that statement…
Again, here, Im pointing out that this is issue number four: There IS NO settling down period. This is fictitious. Even if it was an actual legitimate ‘thing’, it was completely ineffective and did NOTHING!!

After foolishly waiting for the “Settling Down” period to complete, shockingly, my Broadband speed Mbps had NOT got any better at all!

So, unfortunately, I was forced to call TalkTalk’s frustrating and useless customer service number again… After once again having to deal with the numerous repetitions on my part due to their useless voice recognition system, just to get through to an actual person. Then deal with the customer ID / Security questions with all the background noise and a TalkTalk person with a VERY ‘heavy accent’, making it almost impossible to understand what they were saying, I managed to book an engineer. - This engineer was going to inspect the equipment in the street for faults…

On 03/08/22 I receive a TalkTalk email titled “Our Engineer Has Resolved The Issue” (Also a similar message sent to my phone via text)…

    I conduct a speed test…

…… 0.63 Mbps Download Speed… Congratulations, TalkTalk! - You managed to make your already abortionate performance even worse!!!

Id like to point out here that this is issue number five: - They sent an engineer, said that the issue had been fixed when it really wasn’t fixed at all!

Which does raise 3 questions: What, exactly, did the engineer ‘fix’..? AND, did TalkTalk even ACTUALLY send an engineer in the first place or are they lying..?! If they are not lying, why wasn’t the problem fixed, because the email I received said it was…..!?!?

Another frustrating phone call to TalkTalk for me… GREAT!

This time, an engineer is arranged to attend the inside of my property on 17/08/22 between the hrs of 07:00 - 09:00.

Now, if you think things are bad so far, they are about to get A LOT worse..!

So, on the above date, I arrange to take the day off work so I can be home and finally have this problem fixed… (Also, as Im self employed, this involves losing a day’s income for me…).

So, Im sat there on the sofa from 06:30 hrs waiting for a ring of the door bell or a knock…

At 08:12 hrs I receive a TalkTalk text message saying “Hello. ‘Bradley’, your engineer is on the way and due to arrive between 07:00 and 09:00. Please make sure you are at home between these times. Thanks. Talktalk.” Now I’m thinking “Excellent! Anytime now…”

… It gets to 09:00 hrs… No ring or knock at the door…

At 09:11 hrs I receive another TalkTalk text message…

“TalkTalk Update: Hello, we're sorry we missed you when we came out to do a repair. To arrange another appointment with our engineer, just go to our online Service Centre talktalk.co.uk/bookengineer, or reply to this message. We have to charge you for the missed appointment and you'll see this on your next bill - to find out more, see our terms and conditions talktalk.co.uk/engineerterms”.

    I WAS ABSOLUTELY ******* LIVID!!!!

AT NO POINT DID ANY TALKTALK ENGINEER COME TO MY PROPERTY!!! I received NO knock at the door! I received NO doorbell ring! NOTHING!!!

Oh, yeah… This is issue number six…

… You see, there’s a little trick that various engineers use to “lighten their work load” for the day when making house calls… They get close enough so that their work tablet is in job geo-fence range, barely ‘brush’ your front door (certainly DON’T ring the doorbell because that will be loud and the homeowner will answer the door, and the engineer will actually have to do some work!!!), get back in their vehicle and enter into their work tablet that there was no one home… Oh well, on to the next job….!!!

I instantly (at 09:12) get on to TalkTalk customer care (which, again, is great fun, highly dynamic and really professional as I’ve previously described…!) and tell them what has happened and to get the engineer back here IMMEDIATELY!!!

    IM FURIOUS!!!!

….. TalkTalk put me on hold for 31 minutes…. No updates…. No info…. And that’s where I give up, end the call and they lose a customer! - They don’t call back and obviously the engineer doesn’t “return”…

I then and there select a different Broadband provider to switch to after only being with TalkTalk for 24 days!!! ABSOLUTELY SHAMBOLIC ACROSS THE BOARD!!

I have been charged in 24 days of “Service” with TalkTalk the following amounts:
    £ 31.48 (Initial “monthly rate” £ 19.95, plus “charges since you’ve joined” £ 1.58 and a “one off charges” £ 9.95?!)
£ 59.95 (Engineer call out fee who never turned up!!! Plus, normal monthly rate!!!)
£ 180.73 (‘Contract Breakage Fee’, WHICH I WOULD’NT BE BREAKING IF THEY WERE’NT COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT AND DIDN’T HAVE ASTOUNDINGLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!)

    £ 272.16 TOTAL…. In 24 days…!

I, THE CUSTOMER, am paying £ 240.68 purely because of THEIR SHORTCOMINGS!!!

    How is this right?!

Their level of incompetence defies belief!!! I can summarise my experience with TalkTalk and describe them by the words: Horrendous. Unprofessional. Dishonourable. Unorganised. Low Grade. Dishonest. Embarrassing. Infuriating.

But there is somewhat of a happy ending to this story…

My new Broadband provider is supplying generous and highly satisfactory Mbps right out of the box on day 1. No need for a “Settling Period”. No need to call customer service. No need for engineer call outs that don’t really do anything or even turn up….!!

For those still reading, I cannot stress enough to stay away from TalkTalk.

I am in the process of copying and pasting my experience on as many forums, comparison sites, review sites etc. as possible. - Consumers need to know!

Appalling Customer Service! You spend hours trying to get the deal you want, can't understand their 'Helpline' advisers because of their heavy accents... won't give you the deals they advertise. Avoid at all costs.
