My internet connection would regularly drop out 5-10 times a week. Usually for 1-10 minute periods. While SSE customer service was excellent, the issue clearly lies in-house as BT never found a fault with the line. Perhaps another good example of an initially excellent provider (PlusNet) getting too bloated and not upgrading their service to cope with it.
Incidentally, switched to a competitor and haven't had a single disconnect in over a month.

I switched to SSE primarily for the excellent deal and fast speeds. Initially was good but then intermittent. SSE were excellent - problem ended up being an open reach issue but all in all had 4 engineers out. SSE regularly updated me and if the person dealing with my case was on days off she handed it to a colleague. In a previous property I have had broadband through plusnet ( who made me cry) and sky and there is no doubt that the customer service at SSE is second to non. I now have an excellent phone and broadband connection and have nothing but praise for SSE.

Being on ultra fast broadband estimated 63mps I've been if lucky 7mps been over a week complaining nothing has been resolved ,sse didn't tell me there broadband runs on vodaphone network so that explains quite a bit ,my opinion it's to steer clear of sse broadband as you will be paying for a service you won't be getting and then have to send speed tests every hour before thay do anything if thay haven't got days off here and there been over a week and still sse haven't contacted vodaphone to find out what's going on I'll be leaving and will not be paying anything for leaving either

Our broadband went down about a week ago. I've waited on hold for 28 mins, then 15 mins but no reply. Emailed customer services a couple of days ago and no reply there either. This is likely to end up with the Ombudsman, so I'd also recommended avoiding this supplier.

Cowboys & liars. Do not understand a thing about broadband . Their technical support engineer told me to open the sockets on the wall myself in order to run the checks.
However, I just been told that they been taken over by another dreadful company
TALK TALK which I dealt with 12 years ago and as usual dreadful people to deal with
Please I do not want to deal with you anymore

I took up SSE between 2016 and 2017, moving from sky. They have a particularly good offer at the time for FTTC which was very impressive. The service however was a bit of a disappointment though, I did try and leave the contract initially, but the penalties were far too great.
The first thing you have to know about SSE is that none of the network is owned by it. For all suppliers on BT lines this is the same as Openreach owns the physical network however other supplier out of the exchange traffic is sent over its own network. In the case of SSE it goes out via Daisy networks which is reselling to SSE. In a nutshell, Daisy are an appalling company, they sell cheap but restrict traffic a lot, they block ports, VPN's and they also do not have a large amount of backend capacity. Over the years it has been the only supplier where I have routinely got download speeds less than the sync speed of the line.
Moving onto support, it was nothing to write home about, in my mind I had made the mistake of going for a cheap service therefore it was my fault, this is all I could expect. Slow call response times and often first line call handlers who cant really appreciate the nature of the issue.
I left as soon as my contract was up, something I do nowadays is check if the ISP is just as reseller of daisy and then avoid if they are.

I joined SSE at the New Year. I have been with SSE for Gas & Electric for about 8 years and assumed it would be good to change from my previous provider; TalkTalk.
I was given no start date for the broadband and then found it was apparently the same day as the phone had started.
The first router would not connect to the internet. The router from SSE is so big it does not even fit on the shelf where the last router (a third of the size) had sat.
The second router arrived a few days later and connected straight away.
However, after about 9pm onwards the speed drops to between 1.0 mbps and 6.0 mbps. The signal either shows as 'very low' or 'no signal'.
A couple of times I have not been able to connect to the internet for over 30 minutes.
When I explained these issues to SSE they started saying there would be an engineer charge and if i cancelled my service charges would be incurred.
I should have thought twice when two of the sales staff, when I asked what the minimum access line speed was (as opposed to the estimated access line speed) they could not tell me.
SSE have been ringing every other day to discuss the issue but their suggestions that the router should be permanently left on and having to use a pin to do a hard re-set every time there is a problem leave me without any confidence that they are actually looking at what is causing the drops in line speed.
If this carries on then I will consider leaving SSE altogether along with my utilities as SSE are one of the 'big 6' energy firms who, according to the press, have apparently failed to pass on energy savings to the customer as well ...

Totally mis-sold on speed. They dont care. You cant cancel as they wait 14 days to even set it up. Cancellation costs more that the product. Can't even watch Netflix!

Awful customer service. Spent a year of service being completely ignored. The website features don't work and then you can't get in touch with them to follow up on the broken things. Came to renewal and their renewal service and phone service didn't work. So they lost my business. Still waiting on overdue bills from them and for my money back. I really wanted to like SSE but was majorly disappointed.

It just didn't deliver as promised, though they tried to resolve it I just couldn't carry on with the slowness of the broadband. That may be down to the Bt line in or down to sse, I don't know. I have a better connection using the tether on my mobile data bundle..

I moved to SSE for price reasons and, on the basis that BT and Plusnet had previously provided good service, thought what could possibly go wrong? Well actually it goes wrong alot. Nearly everynight in fact between 6-11pm. It normally drops to 0.01mbps (that's not a typo!) which effectively means there is zero internet - its not even fast enough to complete the BT wholesale speed test. I've had multiple visits to investigate 'line faults' (as if line faults would happen only in peak times). Eventually they said they couldn't help with me. So I took them to the ombudsman who said hard luck on the basis that SSE state that they traffic manage. So if you have no requirement to use the internet in the evening then I highly recommend them. For everyone else, PLEASE STEER WELL CLEAR!!

Well. I have to say what a totally useless internet service! Appalling fibre optic speeds, constantly streaming.
Its cheap for a reason! Customer service is hopeless, i have contacted customer services on numerous occasions and they advise me the service is running as it should.
Well they clearly don't know how to test it or repair it. i was told its an issue with my line, only last year his was all replaced by BT, so I know its not that causing the issues.
Don't sign up for this totally hopeless internet service.
Stick with who you know that provide a usable service.
Totally useless provider that clearly are not up to the game.

Worst broadband I've ever used. 0.5 Mb/s download, what is that about? I'm supposed to be getting 80Mb/s.
Speedtest.net says 60Mb/s, Microsoft.com download achieves 20kB/s. Traffic Shaping ultimate fail.
No thanks.

The worst Internet I had ever in my life, I had better speed 15 years ago with a different provider. Constantly dropping, terrible upload speed - around 0.05Mbps(!). I've been calling them multiple times and after waiting 30 minutes on the line got connected to a person which was nice but my phones had zero effect, it's worse with every month. If it wasn't provided by my landlady which doesn't want to change, I'd terminate the contract immediately.

Absolutely appaling SSE! Keeps dropping off although I am in area of at least 12Mbps. The connection to internet with them is like a yo-yo. On-Off permanently. Imagine doing on-line banking using these useless people !
My advice to everyone. Discard this company. They don't know what are they doing.

SSE - the worst experience I ever had. I was attracted to the low monthly cost, about 20 quid. However, the consistent signal drop for 30 sec to 1 minute renders Netflix and Amazon useless. I experience that loss of signal when banking on-line!
I spoke to them, they gave me a pep talk about "you live in a congested area " and nothing else happened. Well guess what SSE? The traffic will only continue to grow. I feel like they are still in the nineties.
Imagine watching GOT and the fly of the dragons are frozen ... Relaunch Netflux ... Go back to "Resume" ... :))) pretty cool eh?
My advice to everyone reading this: avoid SSE broadband like a plague.
Horrible.
They are either a bunch of incompetents or a bunch of cheap corporate mongers practicing "traffic management". Pay up a tenner more for anyone out there and have proper internet, proper service.

Changeover handled very efficiently SSE arranged it for 20 June and it was delivered and installed by Open Reach on that day. Very impressed with the service and am certainly recommending SSE broadband to my friends. Has reduced my broadband/phone bills by two thirds.
Very happy customer. Thank you SSE

SSE for just over 6 months now -
6 openreach engineers visits of which some were brilliant while the others I can only describe as ignorant and negligent.
Using the Wi-Fi on the tecchnicolour router showed absolutely useless wi-fi range and did not find a guest network which was fixed by replacing with an Asus router.
The broadband speed was silly slow each evening at the start so I accepted a different connection - This provided a dynamic IP Address which enabled much better speeds by rebooting to get different links which turned out to be in different parts of the country. This left an inconsistent service which is not ideal.
Next was switched back to a fixed IP and a static route which was not supplied thro' BT exchange equipment causing further issues local to me <> They were then thanked for their efforts and in response to this they make an instant free termination of the contract.
Then was explained that SSE had not expected such a high take-up of the broadband so they had and were in process of extending the capacity which they bought/used and that they would switch the local equipment route back to BT and would appreciate my feedback once this had been completed.
AFTER 6 weeks
End result - Not using their router and achieving 55>60 download and 14>15 upload.
Pro's <> Very good price
Con's <> Can be over 3 hours to get thro' on the phone and Calls back are not always made.

After researching SSE as a provider by asking 6 specific questions 3 months use has shown that 3 of 4 essential answers were wrong. - Use own router > Yes (but NOT if you report any faults when support is then refused).
Is traffic management expected to have any visible effects? Unlikely! (Virtually unusable every evening speed down >3 and up >2.
Was sold 76mbps down BUT local line and exchange will not support more than 40 down - not a price issue as broadband is free but I would expect accurate information after providing tel. no & postcode.
SSE added extras which were not requested and increased bill until these were cancelled.
The simple summary is - Cheap YES - not usable during peak loads - that's every evening here.
Totally incorrect information as to reason for Openreach engineer visits.
9 different customer service contacts in less than 2 months which required repeated explanation of action so far and detail of fault(s) reported.
Supplied router, if it arrives, has rubbish Wifi and no guest network which can be disastrous if you have children or visitors.
SSE should stick to power supply!

I have been with SSE Broadband for 18 months now and for the price I pay it is brilliant. The speed is easily as fast as what I was getting with TalkTalk without all the hassle. I would highly recommend SSE but they don't have the fabulous offer I got 18 mths ago. I am dreading the time when my contract finishes, as there is nothing out there like what I am getting. I have only had to contact SSE twice in the time I have been with them and the issue was dealt with very quickly and the customer care was excellent.

I recently switched to SSE 38Mbps fibre. Off-peak speed is fine (34-36Mbps down / 9-10Mbps up). However speed during the evening is a pathetic 2 Mbps down. With my previous provider, I got 38Mbps all day long on the same line. Something is very wrong/congested with SSE's upstream provision from Daisy. I have filed a complaint. If they can't sort this out, I will be asking to break my contract and will go elsewhere.

I was promised speeds of 74Mb/s and out of all the time using SSE only managed a speed of 44Mb/s. And they then had the cheek to charge an exit fee of £84.00.
I would not recommend using their service.
