Signed up in July went live August. So far ive had no issues at all with SSE despite all of the negative reviews here and on other review sites. I get an average of 70 to 80 mb with ultrafast fibre ,customer services can be a little slow however when i have spoke to them they have been very good.

I moved from BT to SSE because of the amazing deal they had at less than half what I was paying BT. Seeing as they where using BT's lines I assumed I would get the same Speed from them as I got from BT. The Sales rep even confirmed I would get the same service.
Wow was he wrong, day one an SSE agent turned up at my house drugged me and put me in a time machine to 1994 where I was subject to a sub 56k performance. Forget being able to game to watch Youtube videos don't even think about Netflix this is the WORST fibre broadband I have ever had. I immediately cancelled and I'm going back to BT.
The main issue isn't SSE its the wholesaler they buy their broadband from speed tests will say 73 mbs because they traffic manage the speed testers to give a high score, in reality you will get basically zero bandwidth. Be prepared for massive pings and useless internet. JUST DON'T DO IT>

the most appalling broadband provider EVER! Connections without access to internet. complete drop outs. pay for 17mb service and don't get any service at all. 17mb service is capped at 10mb when it works. overall this company and its internet is absolutely disgusting, appalling and shameful. customer service do EVERYTHING to blame the customer EVEN WHEN an engineer has been out TWICE and found nothing wrong this end. AVOID SSE LIKE THE PLAGUE!

unreliable broadband. Also sneaky with contract information. My contract termination date was not provided on my online account or on my bills. when I switched provide they didn't bother to mention the £134 termination charge.

Speed and reliability is SHOCKING - switched from sky which worked fine by the temptation of a cheaper service - yes it is cheap but if it doesn't work what's the point. Speed down to less than half meg on busy periods on a line that's capable of 15mB plus and has been tested to do so by Openreach. When I quizzed the openreach engineer when he came to test he just laughed when I said SSE where providing the service - saying don't expect to use at periods then was his comment. On top of that the router is of such poor quality it's pathetic - when I complained SSE told me to get a booster - but again what's the pint when it keeps loosing it's outside line. If you want a cheap service go for it but if you need to use the internet look elsewhere.

This is not an actual review of SSE, rather a review of why I am not with them. After being with TalkTalk almost from their inception I decided it was time to upgrade to fibre. As the T-T offering seemed quite expensive to upgrade I went online with a well know switching site and it appeared that SSE were offering an excellent deal for £21 a month unlimited calls, fibre B-Band etc. I duly put all of the info into their site and was told that I had to call them 'for a few remaining details' After 4 successive calls, being on hold for around 15-20 mins each time I gave up and called TT to discuss cancellation. Although not matching the SSE deal they have upgraded me to fibre for free, with no additional installation or delivery costs for a year and without all the hassle of switching, changing email etc. SSE would almost certainly have got my business initially if they had answered the phone (which TT did within 30 seconds) but clearly their customer service is either too over stretched or they just don't care. I can accept peak demand issues but the calls were over a few days with a min of 10 mins on hold each time before I gave up. Finally I cannot recommend highly enough the T-T representative in the Lancashire call centre who sorted it. HE was professional and interested, taking the time to offer me a good package for no additional cost without being pushy

Firstly this has to be the best price deal around - I will struggle to get anywhere near £21 per month when my deal ends in October 2017.
However - Although the speed is very good, I get near 50Mbs download it has an annoying habit of dropping the link randomly.. Not that random - usually within a few minutes of starting streaming a movie or downloading a large file, or a few seconds after I hit SEND to a long involved email, which is lost and I have to sometimes start over.
It is so unreliable I can rely on it being unreliable.
If it was not so cheap I would have dumped it 12 months ago. Now it is just annotying - bit like toothache.

I had SSE broadband for about 4 or 5 weeks and speed seemed ok but noticed in the mornings I had sometimes dropped the connection. Then after about 7 weeks it began to get annoying. This never used to happen on Sky, plusnet, talk talk, all of which I had used successfully, especially Sky. Phoned customerservices and spoke to a very attentive Lucy who tried various things and I seemed to have a stable and fast connection for couple of days. Then it started dropping again. Lucy in the meantime recalled me as promised to check progress. It was acknowledged something was wrong and SSE arranged for Openreach to come and check my line out. They found no fault, but did update master socket. But low and behold I have had continuous service ever since. Lucy called me back again as promised to check progress and arrange for outage credit. All in all very happy, and fair dues, customer service very attentive.

Oddly after multiple attempts at calling and waiting, I got through to a perfect Customer Service rep
She explained my Billing
SSE being a big company has poor Front end IT and user interface (especially Utility firms)and leaves many confused about billing - the Online experience for SSE, once into ones account is very poor. Big companies suffer from this because of very poor and dogmatic myopic hiring protocol and not thinking outside of the box, thats why I stay small and nimble.
So SSE is not specifically different but could improve significantly.

Ridiculously Slow Broadband and Appalling Customer Service
In early November 2019 I decided to switch to SSE for my ‘phone and broadband service. Since then I have had issues indicating an appalling level of service.
On 07/11/19 I received a welcome e-mail with 2 attached docs, both of which indicated that I was living in Morayshire, the next County. During a ‘phone call on 25/11/19 I was advised that the wrong address would not appear on important letters. On 02/12/19 I received an important letter from SSE again showing the wrong County.
On Sunday 24/11/19, and without any warning from SSE my internet connection with with Plusnet stopped. This was the first indication that any technical action had occurred.
It took me about an hour on 25/11/19 to get thro’ to SSE. I was only then told that the changeover had actually occurred. The letter advising that the ‘phone & broadband start date “will be” 21/11/19 only arrived on 02/12/19.
Similarly I did not receive the wireless router in advance of the change. It was delivered on 27/11/19. I had been without any internet service for three days.
Since setup of my broadband on 27/11/19 my download speed has consistently been below 3Mbs and sometimes lower than the upload speed. Three requests to improve this have, to date been ignored. To avoid long waiting times on the ‘phone, two have been by the on-line query/complaint form and one has been by e-mail to SSE Broadband Enquiries.
Having used broadband for 10 years at, or near, my current Postcode address I know that I can get much higher speed. I am convinced that SSE have artificially degraded my connection and that they have, so far, deprived me of the proper and normal speed available at my address.

Exasperated . Accept Covid has caused service issues but SSE online information is poor, the accounts page is lacking clarity and there is no way to check what your current Broadband deal is and when it expires and if SSE have carried out a renewal.
Their packages have names but these are not named on the SSE Deals page . My latest Bill does not explain if my new deal has been activated.
They have not responded to my emails.
Very disappointed, they do not give enough info online for me to resolve my problem.

I am approaching the end of a two year contract. When I signed with SSE I was regularily achieving speeds of 74mb as I am very close to the cabinet. At the time SSE used Daisy to provide the internet to its customers and there was no issue and good overall speeds. However a good way through the contract SSE moved providers to vodafone and there was an instant reduction of speed down to around 22mb. I have a "fing box" connected to the router that does periodic automatic speed checks and records the speeds and the provider connected to, it showed a speed drop overnight that has never recovered. This was pre-covid and during the peak of that the speeds understandably, perhaps, dropped even further but reached the point where watching you tube required to reduce the quality to 360p if you were to watch videos at all. The speeds have recovered back to the 22mb or thereabouts but has never reached even close to the speeds that Daisy provided under the guise of SSE at the start. Definately time for me to move on

Just awful. When I was switching broadband I thought id give SSE a try. BIG mistake. The broadband is literally unusable. Cant even load basic social media stories. Stream youtube/prime or netflix without problems. Drops out throughout the day even under light use and frequently disconnects, despite being a one person household. Well done SSE probably the worst broadband ive ever experienced. Avoid like the plague. Luckily I managed to leave under the 60 day happiness guarantee. Still a waste of time none the less.

I signed up with SSE 5 months ago in a new area. The first 3 months were great - good speeds, no issues. Then in August my broadband went down for 2 weeks. It took 3 calls, waiting for about an hour each time, before the fault was resolved. Now this month it has gone down again for almost 2 weeks so far, still not resolved and no 'updates' they promise you when you call. I'm just totally fed up. It's so stressful and time consuming dealing with this...

Am actually not sure what the fibre speed would be but I almost signed up to the SSE £21 deal today but had one more go at getting a good deal with my current provider TalkTalk and they are giving me free fibre broadband for 12 months so will only be paying £17.70 per month for better more reliable download speeds by the looks of the reviews on here and am so glad I read the reviews so I would say check with your current provider first and you may get a better deal and a more reliable service - I am one happy customer now and TalkTalk will be switching me to my free fibre broadband in 9 days with no fees or extra charges

The best WiFi I’ve had. And I’ve had most company’s over the years. I’ve literally never had an issue. The call staff, any time I’ve called are the most kindest and politest people, every time. Cheap too.
4 friends of mine have now switched to SSE, after my recommendation. I always recommend SSE WiFi.

Internet worked "well" for 2 weeks or so, reliable but quite poor. Then all of a sudden nope. Absolutely no internet access for 3 days so far (doesn't seem like it is going to stop). Customer service seems to think we are uploading huge quantities of data, we aren't. Would never recommend this for anyone.

SSE customer service is literally non existent. We have been with them over a year for electric and broadband and had very little reason to contact them. Until this month when we didn’t get the usual email that our bill was due. I pay every month on time without fail. This month no email so I went onto the account to pay when we didn’t get the email and it says account inactive and we owe £0 and does not allow me to make a payment. Our internet is still up and running mind you. For over a week I have tried every single contact method available and have not once got anywhere. Live chat agent told me to call and ended chat. WhatsApp tells me to call. Email they provide on invoice is defunct and says to call. So I call and call and call and call. I complain and they immediately close the complaint. Honestly I’m sick of trying to pay them now and will just switch. Honestly don’t bother. The speeds are good but god forbid you ever need to contact them.

Ok so in general I would probably recommend, I’ve got Fibre up to 35mbps and although it is fast the only problem is it’s not very reliable if you demand a lot from your broadband. I will average speeds of about 26mbps but it can regularly drop to about 19mbps but often as low as 9mbps; this would be fine if I didn’t require decent speeds all the time but a lot of reboots are needed to keep speeds up. All in all if you only use your broadband casually to watch Netflix etc I’d say it’s great but if you need it for more demanding things I’d probably steer clear.

Have been with them for 6 months having been enticed by the price. My max speed to date has been 3Mbps. Had BT before with a top speed of 18Mbps. Very frustrating. In addition, the billing of calls makes my bill overall about the same. Have raised this with them twice using their online complaints form. Still yet to receive a reply. Onto the Ombudsman next. In short, only use SSE if you are desperate to save money but be warned that you get what you pay for.

I switched from BT fibre to SSE because I was looking for a deal. SSE have a product which claims to allow you up to 17mbs for £26 a month. This would have worked out cheaper than my BT package. However, what you don't realise is that the claim to give you up to 17mbs only works if your own copper ADSL line can carry that speed. In my area, the copper line can only take up to 3mbs. In addition, the call charges are higher with SSE. So, my bills are fractionally lower but my speed has disappeared. I am now locked into an 18 month contract. Apparently I should have read the technical details of the package when I signed up online. I have raised this with SSE. No joy there. Basically all my own fault for not having a degree in telephone engineering. I won't be renewing with SSE of course. It's a scam offering a headline 'deal' and hiding the details. Unfair on the consumer for whom it is hard enough nowadays to navigate the minefield of financial and service products.

They have changed how I can pay preventing me paying online meaning I have to ring them wouldn't be a problem if I didn't spend the last 2 months trying to actually get through to them oh and the few times I have I'm chucked on hold for hours till I hang up. I've emailed and sent them messages on WhatsApp most I got was " you're in a queue" at gone 10pm over 8 hours after I tried to make contact with them. All I want to do now is pay the bills due and switch provider now because they are the worse I've known and none seem to want to sort this out other than put me on hold

After a complaint to sse for 9mps I was getting on ultra fast broadband of 63mps I sighned up for this is a bit of the managers response,SSE don’t sell on speed, we sell on package and there is some information around the parameters of that on the website. WIFI is also not included in our terms and conditions as a guarantee. That being said even if I wanted to investigate the speed fault now for you I can’t as from midnight tonight we won’t be your supplier.

Avoid its criminally slow at peak times. Switched to the SSE Ultra fast fibre so I could stream HD and 4k movies and I can get 65mb/s in the middle of a weekday but at any 'peak' time I'm getting 4-10mb/s. My previous standard broadband gave a constant 17mb/s which was more usable. AVOID.

Broadband reliability is awful. Mine has been down for five days. The wait time to contact customer support is at least forty minutes and often I’m on hold for over an hour. When I finally get through they usually refer me to their specialist team who promise to contact me later. They never do (I’m beginning to believe they don’t exist). The last time I managed to get through I was told another THREE days that will mean no internet for EIGHT days. If you need reliable internet AVOID SSE

Had to take advantage of the free SSE super fast broadband. Switched from BT Infinity.
Router arrived about 10 days before connection day.
Connection day today and followed simple set up guide.
Router connected fine to all devices in the house.
I have a problem with Sky Q On Demand services but I had the very same problem with BT so the problem probably lies with the Sky Q set up.
Download speeds averaging around 24
Upload speeds averaging around 11
The above are about 30% better than what I had previously been getting with BT.
Overall - so far, so good.

So far a brilliant find and excellent surprise. I was with Virgin, paying for 200Mbps I didn't actually need. Problem was I didn't have a physical phone line at all so moving to another ISP was rather costly. Comes SSE, they said setup fee was £30. I explained I didn't have a line and they said they would send an Open Reach engineer. At not extra cost. BT usually charge about £140 for that, and SSE do it for nothing, with a 1 month rolling contract. Seriously? I thought it was too good to be true. Well, the engineer came the day I was told he would, set up the whole thing within 3 hours, then I plugged the router and within 5 minutes all lights were green and everything was working. I signed up for the Unlimited Fibre (38Mbps down, up to 10Mbps up). I've been doing speed tests regularly to see how it behaves and I'm consistently getting between 36 and 38Mbps down, and 9 to 10Mbps up.
So, I'm saving a fortune, I'm not tied to a 12 or 18 month contract, everything went super smoothly, the router is decent and service is as promised. Well impressed!

This is an ISP company yet you can only communicate with them by phone and most often when they call you at THEIR convenience. Also, don't move house, otherwise you will have to renew at their latest prices and be tied in for another 18 months, or pay extortionate exit fees. It will also take over a week to speak to the department that can initiate the move, the timescale of which is 24 days. This is after someone has called you to ask if you want to move despite having emailed them to say you are moving and want to take it with you and then passing this nugget of information on to the Sales Team who will call you to start the 24 day transfer. This is to stay with the same company! Absolutely ridiculous.
