Connected to wrong exchange for two weeks until I suggested it was a second exchange in the same town! Very poor speeds continue. Tried to put up prices until I advised it was a fixed 3 year term. Therefore not the best.

SSE try to be helpful but speed is dreadful. Was better off with Plusnet but they put their price up too much which made me change.

Customer service has been awful - broadband delayed by six weeks. They didn't contact us to arrange fitting of the new fibre modem, failed to correctly book a fitting date. On the plus side now installed we are getting 36mb on fibre.

Super slow and weak ass signal can't pick it up from more than ten ft away so forget another room, and that's before they turn the signal strength down at peak times.

Just perfect! Promised frustration free broadband, got frustration free broadband. They send an engineer from Openreach to my house to fix the line on my first day of contract, before I even mentioned to them that it's not working - something TalkTalk has not been able to do despite WEEKS of constant complaining! Honestly, save yourself the pain of a slightly cheaper provider without any service, totally not worth it. Choose SSE.

I am very pleased that I didn’t read the reviews before I signed up, I was with plusnet prior to changing to sse, the service was crap and was ages getting a decent signal.
Since joining sse which is about 6 months been extremely satisfied. I had to call help line today as could log in to access antivirus, The lady I spoke to was very helpful (uk call centre ) and nothing to much trouble. Well done SSE

Moved from BT Infinity to SSE BB and Phone package at half the cost. Everything has gone great from the outset. Connected today and very easy to set up. Lot quicker than BT Early days but very happy so far.

After waiting 8 weeks to get installed, I was happy at first with the speed I was getting, which matched the speed I was paying for.
But now my speeds are abysmal, it seems that after using about 2gb in a day they slow your download speed down to about 20 - 100kb per second, which then seems to be the norm for the rest of the month.
Also the wifi completely drops out for about 10 seconds at least twice an hour every hour! Causing my downloads to fail, they even charged me a different amount every month for 5 months, were every bill was higher than it should have been.
It's cheap and discounted for a reason! Stay clear!

Promised average 35 Mbps speed, but is now always UNDER 4 Mbps!! (When I could still cancel the service, the speed was around 30 Mbps) Constant delays to get the service running, I had to register online FOUR times because of 'technical' errors. The first engineer to install was rude and didn't do it properly, had to get another to re-do it.The customer service was always very nice, but actually, nothing gets done!!! Connection cuts off every few days for no reason. It's a cheap deal because it's a cheap, unreliable service.

A faultless move with everything done when expected or sooner with Broadband change over occurring seamlessly. Moved from TalkTalk and the improvement in every area is clear. Better service, better connection, better, more friendly and informative customer service. I am delighted and a lower charge as well!! I would recommend SSE Broadband without reservation!

I had moved and booked a broadband connection £21.00 per 76meg ultra-fast with SSE and I was told that I need to wait 14 days cooling of period. Now hence I have just signed up and have no equipment of SSE within my property,(can see how that one works)after the cooling period had passed and had no confirmation on the go live date.
After lots of phone calls to SSE and told so many stories.

First story" we would have to wait again for the order to process and we will receive confirmation within 7 days."

Second Story" After contacting SSE after we had no contact with SSE, we was told that its in hand and we will get a call from customer services."

Three Story" We had to chase Up SSE and was told that we will have to apply again, the worst thing was we was sent a contact from SSE to hear the deal we had is not available and we need a new tariff. We asked why is it SSE trying to change the contract, due to SSE have stopped the Tariff we was sold."

Four Story"We was told that it will up and running within 7 days and will receive the equipment."

Five Story" The Kit had arrived and was plugged in tested and no internet."

December came and gone and still had no Internet.
So we had promises made and nothing was going to plan.
I find the company are lacking communications skills and rather miss leading.
The company seems to be run by Muppets and I have contacted on numerous concussions and to be lied too.
The left hand don't know what the right hand is doing.
I would not Trust this company due to the misconceptions.
A company of such a size and the CEO DON'T care what is going on within the company.
CEO don't care as long as he gets paid for such a sub standard service.
Great Britain is not great any more with companies like this and Muppets in control.
Do Not Use Company It will cost you and turn you grey.

Was previously with BT elsewhere - changed to SSE when I moved. Cannot fault the broadband or phone service. Given a date when it would be connected - no delays. Good speed and reliability. The wireless router provides good connectivity around the house. All this and about a sixth of what I was paying BT.

Very pleased so far (this is day 1 of having broadband with SSE in a new property). Given the deal currently on offer (ie 'free' for 2 years with 12 pounds lines rental), there seems to be a backlog (I waited 5 weeks to be up and running). When you order, you need to let the 14-day cooling off period pass before they can do anything with your activation, the phone line is then activated 7 days later, then the broadband around another 7 days after that. Mine was a little longer, as unbeknown to me, once the phone line is activated, you actually need to call up and place the broadband order (as, apparently, would have been advised in the welcome letter which I never received). Luckily, I found all this out by weekly calls to get status updates). I must say though, every time I called their call centre, every operator was fantastic - they took the time to go through my query methodically, were friendly, and gave me confidence that, although there was a back-log, my order was being worked on and gave me estimated dates for completion. I've now got my broadband up and running, and all is good, hopefully it remains so.

Internet is constantly going on and off at any random moment and restarting itself. Internet also switches off whenever a device connects to it. Customer service only open 8-8. Would not recommend at all! Awful internet connection.

We switched to SSE broadband a year ago and have had no problems. The speed we get is low - but that is due to location - it is actually slightly better than we were getting with our old provider and is enough for our needs - general internet use and Netflix etc. Customer service is excellent, response time to logging a phone outage was very good, the service has been very reliable. I'm very happy with SSE.

Horrible broadband service. Only stayed with SSE for not even 2 months and never managed to have good quality broadband. Once exiting the contract using the 60 days happiness guaranty, they still charged me the penalty for leaving them early, saying they would only guarantee good ethernet and not wifi. (in 2021!!! who uses ethernet anymore?) DO not recommend. Horrible experience and even worse customer service.

My first time with SSE was brought to and abrupt parting of the ways by a house move. Overall at the time I was pretty happy with them. The accounts system was one of the best I had come across, never as mistake, an overcharge, nothing. Support at that time was pretty brilliant if you could not get through the automated system asked if you wanted a call back and gave you an approximate lead time, and it worked, brilliant! The only downside I recall was the fair usage policy, which quite simply was not fair and caused a lot of frustration at times and up to the time of writing is still sadly in place. I tried to transfer my account to the new address but was informed they could not supply to that address at that time.

I tried 2 other broadband suppliers, neither one up to much. I won’t name them here.

(But they were Sky and Plusnet)

Later SSE became available. So this is my second time with them and my 18 month agreement has come to an end. I have sadly made the decision to move on. The systems and accounts department are still solid. As far as support goes the automated call back system is no longer there and your stuck with the endless wait times, though the staff have always been helpful. I have been on a supposed 35mb fibre connection which for the most part seems to operate between 8mb and 20 mb and the test were run in the main via ethernet cable. I understand that they are thinking about moving over from unlimited broadband to truly unlimited. I f anyone from SSE happens to read this I would like you to know how much you have got right and to thank you for it. What a shame!

Truly awful. We have been with SSE for years with electric and gas and have never had an issue. Three months ago I asked SSE to supply our broadband. All online stuff was completed and they sent an email asking me to complete my registration.
Now, every week they sand me the same email saying I have not completed my registration and I need to, then they say I am registered and they do not have my full address so I need to reply to the email with my full details. Which I do. This triggers an email that says this email address is not monitored.

A few days later I receive another email reminding me to register for my broadband package.

Three months now without broadband or phone line and if I call them there is a hold message saying it will be over an hour to talk to anyone or I can request a call back. I have requested 4 calls back now and received none.

Truly the worst customer service I have ever seen anywhere. Ever.

I would like to thank for the best broadband which I had in UK!

All other companies charge high prices for low speed broadbands and let me tell you - it's insane! Then I moved to new place and I found about SSE company I tried and from now on I recommend it to everyone.

This company doesn't spend a lot of money for advertising so it's common that most of us even don't know about SSE.

Just one minus is that you need to spend around 20 minuets to be connected to customer service. I hope they going to sold out this problem soon.

In the end even you need to spend around 20 minutes on phone but you going to have high speed broadband for amazing price.

    All the best!

But I'm pleased I ignored the bad reviews and carried on with my contract, the service I received was excellent and the broadband was spot on, it came live early morning as I was expecting it to be late evening.
    Happy customer

I wanted to cancel my "no-fixed term" contract and was told I could get a discount. What I got instead is a new 18 month contract, but was only told I am getting a discount! Now I'm having to pay cancellation fees due to not being aware of the new contract.

Disgraceful, Unethical company that preys on vulnerable people

In Oct 19, I placed an order for broadband. I lawfully recorded the call in which we agreed the start date. I made it clear I have a life-threatening medical condition. I also stated I require all comms in large print.
SSE subsequently cancelled my order for reasons unknown and failed to resolve the matter to my satisfaction. So, I cancelled well within the 60-day Happiness Guarantee, which states you can cancel free of charge.
Following cancellation, the company sent me a barrage of small-print letters it knew I could not read. Since there was no need for contact, I wrote to head of complaints asking them to cease contact. Meanwhile, I received a threatening letter telling me I still had to pay all bills!
In response, I made a subject access request on Nov 19 asking for the contract that serves as the legal basis for any charges they planned to generate. They never responded thus breaching their statutory obligations under the DPA.
Yesterday I came home from a hospital appointment to find a demand from SSE for payment within 7 days! SSE has generated a demonstrably fraudulent bill since I don’t have a router or a land telephone and they haven’t been able to provide a contract between us (because there is none, since I cancelled).
As a direct result of SSE’s behavior, my condition has deteriorated and I have stared suffering seizures. I have also had to stop the potentially life-extending treatment I was on because my doctor advises it cannot be used in the presence of heart palpitations – which I have suffered since receiving the fraudulent bill. So SSE is literally putting my life at risk.
SSE staff are happy to lie and mislead customers in the full knowledge I am recording the call. My evidence proves my case unequivocally and I am confident the Ombudsman will find in my favour, but meanwhile SSE is going to keep demanding money and adding late charges, potentially ruining my credit rating.
What a way to treat a vulnerable customer. SSE is an utter disgrace. Due to the extenuating circumstances, even Ofcom has intervened – they don’t generally get involved in complaints but they have instructed SSE to stop harassing me.
Please, stay away from this dishonest, unethical company and if you do have dealing, record all calls. It is lawful so long as you tell the at the outset you are recording. I thank god I had the foresight to record all calls
I have provided the Ombudsman with full medical evidence to back up my claim.

I have been a customer of SSE 76mb for just over a year now, and am well satisfied. speeds are as stated.
Price is under half of that i was paying with Virgin 20mb.
Transition was smooth and have never had to call them.

One question tho, to those satisfied and have reached the 18 months, what is the deal/procedure at the end of the 18month term, if any?

The worst broadband experience I ever had. I have tried many : talk talk, BT, plus net, virgin, SKY during more than 20 years. Unfortunately SSE are by far the worst. My games are continually streaming even if no one else is on the WiFi, I am in a town with limited choices of providers at the present but I had BT which was great but due to the monthly package SSE offered I decided to go with them, mistake, wrong choice. I will soon switch back after 5 months been with SSE.

Worked fine for about three months, but in the last couple weeks or so the connection drops several times a day. I did a speed check and turns out I'm only getting roughly 28mb, less than half the speed I am paying for. If I had realised SSE used vodafone I would have avoided them in the first place, had dodgy dealings with them before (screwing up a phone contract, admitted it was their fault, but still passed it on to a debt collection agency. Nothing was paid as the agency couldn't even provide paperwork) Absolute crap, Avoid

Hi I thought I would provide an update about my Ultrafast broadband from SSE (found on MSE) - bit of a dispute originally as I needed a new line MSE said free line, SSE wanted to charge £160. 6 week delay whilst they tried to transfer a business line with BT which I wanted to cease. Eventually got new line fitted after much chasing.
Having read the horror stories on here beforehand, I'm quite pleased with the service so far. Yes it does appear to be throttled at peak times, but still seeing 30-50MB download, 18-20MB upload speeds. My son hasn't started shouting about the speed of Youtube, Xbox etc yet. Time will tell if it remains reliable and speedy when holidays end. So far cheap deal for £21 line and BB, but not quite Ultrafast.

The user name they sent with the package did not even work and we could not logon to the account to change or do anything on the first day.
What a crap service on day 1.
Might be worth going with a more reputable one as it seems their broadband service matches their rubbish energy services.

Absolutely abysmal service. Stay clear. Due to change over from BT last Tuesday, phone and broadband. Phone was changed over. They failed to tell me an engineer was coming to change socket for broadband. Did not know this until got home and found note through door from engineer. Tried phoning SSE that night, after an hour someone answered who said they were only taking messages and would get someone to call me the next night. Guess what no-one called back. Next night after an hour got through to someone who aid they would be in touch to re-arrange engineer visit. On Saturday someone called to say they would contact me by phone either later on Saturday or Monday to let me know when engineer would be coming. Guess what-no call yet. I spent over 30minutes on the phone tonight but did not get through to anyone. I did get a letter today saying they want to resolve my complaint to my satisfaction and will be in touch in due course. Easily soled-Answer the phone-Call back when you say you will-Arrange engineer visit. Surely not difficult. Hint to anyone thinking of changing anything-find the customer service number and call it and see how long you have to wait. If it is a long time they must have loads of complaints. Final bit of advice-AVOID SSE. Only 18 months to go before I can change provider.

We've been with SSE for a couple of years and their broadband has been a little patchy with the router dropping out every now and then. However last Wednesday night it dropped out and has not been back since, apart from a brief period over the weekend. We phoned last Thursday to be told it would be referred to their technical desk, and they could give no timescale to be resolved. Phoned again this morning and I was told the same, and the reason they could not give a timescale is because they are just getting set up for people to work from home! Nearly four months since everybody else did so. Service from them is non-existent with no emails or calls replied to. Avoid at all costs!

Easily THE WORST broadband service we have ever had! And we had broadband many years ago with v21 who practically conned us out of money with contract issues. I would have them back any day over this dismal excuse for a broadband service.
Like other reviews, it started out ok. We signed up to the £21 fibre deal. Speeds were alright, with occasional drops, but we were told this was due to the broadband 'settling'. Well, 8 months, several emails, phone calls and letters later, it would appear that our broadband must still be 'settling'. Poor thing, feeling so unsettled!
The customer service just kept telling us that we had too many devices connected to our router, which is why the signal was awful, devices would lose connection completely for minutes and the speed would reduce to minimal kbps. I tried to explain that we had the same number of devices with o2 (BEST home broadband provider we ever had), sky and plus net and we've never had this number of issues.
Being a bit of an internet geek and doing lots of tests, I established that the router was dodgy, but they refused to agree with me or even try a new one or send out an engineer. Very poor indeed!!
Unfortunately, we are stuck with this terrible service for quite a few months... but the sooner we can get out of it, the better!! Plus net or BT here we come!!
I would avoid, but I understand that some people have had an excellent experience with SSE. I guess it's all down to luck of the draw!! Good luck people and long may we get a day when broadband is fast and free for everyone!!

Price goes up and I ask why, they just send me an attachment"Your SSE Phone package is changing"....you are correct... I'm going elsewhere due to your lack of explanation and general malaise towards customers.
