I had read literally hundreds of very bad reviews for the Post Office home phone and broadband on this website and very nearly cancelled my order for landline and the 'unlimited' broadband package.I have to report (astonishingly!)that the whole process prior to installation was remarkably efficient and customer service focussed, updates via text and email came thick and fast at appropriate times. The Openreach installation was quick and straightforward and the guy even set up the broadband for me!The landline call quality is clear with no crackle in addition I have found the broadband to be just fine for my needs,I watched YouTube videos last night without ANY problems whatsoever and so far I'm REALLY pleased that I took a chance on the Post Office, particularly as they were BY FAR the cheapest package available. The only annoying glitch for me was that waccessinitially ordered the package over the phone the silly woman that took my order mis typed my surname and this has caused an irritating problem with accessing my online Post Office account ,despite a reissue of my correct username and password I still cannot access my account. The technical helpline people have reissued a third password to go with my reissued username....I hope hope third time lucky!!Other than this am REALLY pleased!!

Terrible, terrible, terrible! Do not touch them for phone or broadband. Three months waiting for broadband to change across - no information and then account and phone line just cancelled without telling us. They make BT look like saints.
Should be no stars on rating.

Just to update my previous review....
I first reported loss of service on the 11th November (it first failed on or around the 7th November).
After being told constantly that my service "would be fixed the next day", I eventually got use of my line back on or around 20th November. So for almost 3 weeks I was without a service, I got no useful support and even now I have broadband back the speeds are pitiful.
My one and only piece of advice is to AVOID THE POST OFFICE PHONE AND BROADBAND at any cost. I may be compensated for the downtime but for the time I lost waiting for customer "support" to answer me, the phone calls I made (I had to use my own mobile) - nothing. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

If only you could give negative stars for broadband speed. Opening a page is like watching grass grow and the customer service team are forever blaming my internal wiring. Which is hard to believe when the router is connected directly into the incoming socket outlet. Speed test are always lower than 1mbs and at times I have measured less than 50k. Dial up would be quicker. I can't wait for the contract to finish as it would be nice to for example watch YouTube once again...

Absolutely appalling service. I waited in 8am-1pm as per the slot I booked for the installation and had a voicemail at 1.20pm saying it would have to be rescheduled. When I tried calling to re-arrange, I was on hold for almost 2 hours with no luck. Finally got through the next day to be told the next available date was 2 weeks later leaving me without internet access. Customer service was poor and so I have cancelled the contract before it even started, which again caused a load a hassle. I don't normally write reviews but felt I had to in order to warn others thinking if going with them. Don't do it!!!

I am appalled by Post Office's service. Phoned them 2 wks ago as I was moving and their broadband looked like a good deal and when I told them the importance of broadband for my work, they reassured me that it would be fine. I explained it was a new build property and they said that wouldn't be a problem. Router arrived swiftly, and text msg arrived yday to say engineer would be there between 8-1 and make sure someone was in the property - my dad travelled 120 miles to make sure someone was there. Today, no engineer arrives, I phone and I am told that there is a delay because it is a new build property. 1) they already knew this, 2) they texted yday to let me know and engineer was coming, what changed. I was then met with rude, abrasive service with no answers/explanations and certainly no responsibility or apology. Swiftly cancelled my order!

PLEASE, PLEASE do yourselves a favour and don't go with the Post Office (P Off about describes their attitude). The broadband except in the middle of the night or at 5am is pitiful - less than 1Mb and sometimes even less than that. You can contact them, they will tell you to run tests, they may tell you to buy a new micro-filter but the result is no better. My daughter was unable to do her school work, iplayer etc was unusable. As I write for the second time this year I have NO phone line and NO internet.
PLEASE save yourselves so much hassle. They may be cheaper - you get what you pay for. AVOID !

So so awful. It's not a good sign that, when you ring the call centre, they tell you your postcode doesn't exist. I mean they're the post office for goodness sake! We waited nearly 3 weeks for them to send out an engineer when our internet died, and most of the time the speed is too slow to do anything. God knows what they've upped the price for. Literally no idea where they've invested that, because it's not in their customer service or in their phone or broadband lines!

Worst service I've ever seen. Support staff limited in what they can do and say. Broadband speed non-existent, quicker with a stone tablet and a chisel (and you think I'm joking - not)! Hours after taking the service they put the prices up! I find absolutely nothing good to say about them. OFCOM please investigate these inadequates and slam them with a fine.

Been a customer of PO broadband & phone premium for over six years.

Was fine until the PO hooked up with Talk Talk in place of BT.

For me an acceptable connection speed during the day 4-6mbps but every evening (7pm till very late) less than 1.2mbps or much worse, dropouts,,,,

Iplayer and Netflix drop out in the evenings basically unwatchable.

YOU COULD SAFELY BET YOUR GRANNYS BOOTS TALK TALKS BOX OFFICE TV ON DEMAND SERVICE IS TRAFFIC SHAPED PERFECTLY AND IS NOT EVEN SLIGHTLY EFFECTED BY DROPOUTS AND/OR INFERIOR CONNECTION SPEEDS.

Talk Talk and the PO are well suited. “18 month contracts” they should be wearing masks.

Bottom line if you are thinking about PO Broadband....don't, it is now unquestionably the low esteem fag end option and you now pay handsomely for it.

There are more intelligent solutions and services from telecoms suppliers out there for not a lot more money especially in view of the PO's latest price hikes I know I recently found one.....

Broadband is reliable but slow and getting slower. They claimed when Talk Talk took over the contract that speeds would increase but they have got slower - now only 1.2 Mbs. The Call Centre just blame internal wiring in my house. I only stay with them because of free calls to other PO customers but otherwise would change asap.

Moved from BT to Post Office and found my download speed very low. Any video and audio was constantly re-buffering. Helpdesk were polite and tried lots of things but it was obvious that servers are overloaded which meant speeds plummet at peak times. They didn't argue much when I said I was leaving after only 6 weeks which indicates they are aware of the issues ?

I've been with PO broadband for about 18 months. The first year it all worked fine, but over the last 6 months broadband speeds have plummeted, and it is often unusable. During the night, I get a solid 7Mbps, but during the day and evening this drops to well below 1Mbps - classic symptoms of too many customers on too little resource. Customer service insist on going through all the tedious checks, and assume it is a customer fault, even though the system is quite clearly capable of working properly. Now looking for an alternative.

Well I came on this site to see if Post Office were any good. I dont think I will both after looking at comments. I used to be with Tesco BB who were great, never had any problems, ooks like they have been bought out by Talk Talk which I'm not too keen on either. I think I will go with SKY.

I would not recommend PO broadband to anybody, we have had an ongoing connection problem for over 3 months. Their customer services blame BT REIN team but won't provide any further information. They don't update us when they say they will, their manner varies between patronising, sarcastic or plain rude. We have told them we are reporting them to the regulator and they practically laughed at us, 19 phone calls and 3 months and we are no nearer getting a resolution. They have failed to provide a code of practice after being requested multiple times but they don't seem to have any problem taking money from our bank account. They have threatened to "release us from our contract" which of course doesn't resolve the fault.I cannot understand how these jokers are allowed to operate and I'm looking into options for taking this further.
    Do Not Use!

We need negative ratings. Pathetic & time wasting. Took 4 days after connected to come up, dropping out 25 times a day. Speeds less than 1 Mb (0.54Mb, 0.88Mb, 0.61Mb, 0.37Mb, 0.24, 0.15, 0.0 Mb etc). Nigerian customer service who cannot speak clear English. Best average around 2 Mb, and I'm only less than 1.5 KM from exchange.

Absolute rubbish. Speed oscillates between 300k - 15k / sec. Apparently we are "too far from the exchange" for a half decent connection. Basically it takes hours to download anything substantial (IOS updates, iTunes movies etc), that is if the connection doesn't break halfway through, then you have the dubious pleasure of starting all over again. Classifying this as broadband is taking the proverbial mickey.

Customer services absolute rubbish. I moved into my current house 12 months ago and have had on going connections problems - all down to faulty routers. I'm on my third. After the second faulty router was sent out the Post Office then requested BT to inspect my internal line. The BT engineers found nothing wrong with the line, but did say the router was faulty. The Post Office gave me a third router, and on my next bill charged me £120 + VAT for the BT call out. Since then they can find no record, are still investigating the matter with no time limit to the investigation and customer services being totally unhelpful. Would I recommend the Post Office - avoid it like the plague, I and my extended family with Post Office services are all in the process of leaving.

Absolute shocking customer service and broadband service. Me and my 8 month pregnant girlfriend have been with the post office for 6 month and have only had 1 day where the Internet worked plus the phone line is really crackley and can hardly hear anyone, I have rang 6 times about the problem and done every check they told me to do. I rang them today to cancel the account and they told me it will cost me £128 or nearly £200 for an engineer to come out for there faulty line and router this is a joke and I'm not paying it

Absolute joke of a company. I live in a rural location however speeds of 7mbps were quoted. I struggled for almost a year barely getting over 1mbps. It would drop out regularly and the router needed restarting many times. I phoned their tech dept who stated they could see a fault, but kept making me do self checks and insisted that the fault was at my end. In the end, i told them to stuff it and i terminated my contract early and went with BT... BT identified a fault prior to connection going live and sorted it. I am now getting just over 6mbps and my connection has not dropped out once. They may be cheaper, but avoid at all costs. Shocking company and service.

Unbelievable!!!. I made a request from the Post Office to move a line. I was informed an engineer would come between 8am-1pm. Nobody arrived nor did I receive any notification. It is now 48 hours later I have still not received any information. The Post Office is saying that they have no idea what is happening as they have not been informed by open reach of any problem. They also tell me that they can not give me any timescale when I will receive more information.

I've lost count how many times I've rung them to complain. they say the same thing and do the same thing ever time I ring them. they have blamed the bad connection on the router 3 times and sent me a 3 new ones and still it doesn't make a difference. so DON'T USE THE POST OFFICE FOR BROADBAND

I have been a PO customer for over 4 years. Very rarely have I been disappointed with any aspect and these recent reviews prompted me to post mine. At only £8 per month (currently £4) and £15 (£12 if paid in advance) line rental for unlimited broadband it must be a good deal. Plus calls at weekend to 40 different countries. How much more do people want? One thing has never been reported - the evening calls start at 6pm not 7 like so many others. You don't get fibre optic speed but my connection is mostly 7Mb, dropping slightly at busy times.

"Abandon Hope All who Enter Here."
Took months to get problems resolved. Many, many wasted hours on the phone. One example : Told me I needed a broadband engineer to call, so I arranged to wait in. They then sent the wrong type of engineer, who said I needed a broadband engineer. They repeated this error twice more !!
    Shocking incompetence. Never again.

This is the complaint letter I wrote to them today, 24.8.2015 - says it all:
In April I chose to swop my broadband and telephone service to yourselves. I paid for the line rental for 12 months in advance and I recollect – although it was so long ago I cannot be sure exactly what was said - that the service would be up an running within 14 days of you receiving the mac code that I had to obtain from BT.

I requested the code the same day but did not receive it until three weeks later, when I gave you the code to activate the broad band, you said that I would receive the router about 5 days before the line went live.

The telephone line became active on the 1st of June, I knew this because BT advised me, but I had no communication from you.

When I did not receive the router I phoned up mid June, only to be told that you had tried to apply the mac code and it was faulty, however no one had contacted me to inform me of this. I phoned BT and they said the mac code was accurate, after much back and forth in telephone calls and time I finally ascertained that by the time you applied the code it was out of date which was why the broad band would not port. However the man I spoke to said that rather than wait for a new code from BT we may as well go ahead without this and have the broad band activated on the 21st of June as on that date new legislation came in which allowed companies to take over the broad band service without a mac code, I agreed to this and awaited the receipt of my router.

The 21st of June came and went and still no router, I was then away for three weeks and on my return again phoned only to be told that my broad band order had been cancelled, but that my telephone line would be live with you on the 7th of July. Your representative told me on several times that it was the telephone that would be live until I finally convinced him that this was already active.

I was then under the understanding that it was the broad band that would be live.

As the 7th approached and I still had no router I called again, this time I was told that the broad band would be live on the 7th but may not be activated by BT until up to the 21st, I again confirmed that I would have the router in good time so that there would be no loss of service and I am fairly sure that I explained that it was a holiday cottage and I was going to have to make the 3 hour journey to take the router to the cottage as it was being delivered to the account address in Atherstone, I was assured that this would be the case.

I then received and email from BT in the week ending the 14th to say that they were sorry I was leaving and their service with me would cease on the 21st.

On the 17th I had still not received the router and called again, this time I was told that they could not locate a tracking number, however not to worry as if no tracking order was found by the 21st they would then be able to re-order and I would get it in 3-5 working days. At that point I was totally exasperated with the downright inefficiency and robot like responses of your staff in general, plus their lack of ability to get anything right. I asked to speak to customer complaints and a lady whose name I think was Leanna, told me that she understood my frustrations and would arrange for a router to be dispatched on that day.

I was due to go away that weekend but was under the impression from my agents that no one was in the cottage until the 28th of August, the guests that were leaving would do so on the 21st so that any disruption to them would be minimum. On that basis I decided that I would mail the router direct to my agent when it arrived so that he could make sure it was in place for the guests that were due on the 28th. However it turns out that there are guests at the cottage and they have complained that they have no broadband.

On Saturday, the 22nd I received a letter from you which says

    Dear Mrs O’Donnell

    Yours sincerely
    Mariam Nazir
    Customer Experience Advisor
    Post Office Telecoms

Well I am sure I really need to know that Ms Nazir is your customer experience officer, and no doubt you must have felt it very important that I knew of this fact because that is all the letter has told me, so how about this for a reply to Ms Nazir – My experience with Post Office Telecoms has been ******* diabolical.

I again called today to ask where the router is and was told that Leanna and Ms Nazir had tried to contact me on the 18th and been unable to do so, although why they could not leave a voice mail I do not know and it seems odd that they did not reach me as I was at my desk most of the day and have no missed calls recorded, I imagine they used an incorrect number which would fit with your general standard of efficiency, the correct number is at the bottom of this email. Apparently the failed calls were to tell me that they could not find a tracking order and that they could only make an order for a second router when the broad band went live on the 21st, sounds familiar……..it is blatantly obvious that they could not find a tracking order because no router had been ordered in the first place.

At the very least I would have expected that the router would have been ordered on the 21st but surprise, surprise at 10.00 this morning of the 24th no order had been placed, had I not called it would still not be placed. It seems nothing can be done to speed the delivery up so to try and mitigate the ludicrous delay I have asked for it to go direct to my Agent and have been told that this is not a problem, I have repeatedly checked that this will be the case but have little faith due to previous experience with you.

I think the service I have received is dreadful, I can hardly believe I am saying this but it is far worse than BT, and that’s going some.

I would like to know what you intend to do to compensate me for this dreadful service that has caused me untold frustration, wasted my time and cost me money due to having to call you repeatedly as a result of your repeated inefficiency, and I await an answer to this.

BUT FIRST, THIS IS MY CALL TO ACTION TO YOU - AND I REQUIRE A REPLY WITHIN TWO HOURS, AND YES I AM SHOUTING:

I want someone of authority to confirm that the router will be dispatched today and mailed to the to the following address, and I require their name position and direct telephone number:

My advice is DON't do it! Don't purchase this product. It is THE most unreliable one I have ever had the misfortune to use. Even WORSE than Talk Talk and that's says a lot :( I have left plusnet and they were much netter.
