This is a good example of "you only get what you pay for".
    For basic standard broadband/calls:
Speed: Half that I got from Plusnet
Customer Service: Seems to be Non-existent!
I cannot recommend this ISP and will be leaving a.s.a.p.

What a nightmare, if it didn't cost so much I'd buy myself out of this contract. Worst broadband I've ever had since dial up. Basic router that struggles to get through 1 brick wall, cuts off regularly.

We live in the middle on nowhere so speeds will always be slow. I am writing this review because my renewal price was c50% higher and they sent my renewal c 2 weeks before my contract expires, but demand 30 days notice to leave!!! Be careful of them I would say? .... I have found a deal the same as last years so am now happy - just have to pay for the notice period...

I changed from TalkTalk and wish I had not.
Origin has got to be the poorest excuse of a company.
Customer service is diabolical and if you have Origin I would closely scrutinise your bill including call charges.

Please do not make the same mistake I did and trust these reviews. I was stupid enough to sign up to a contract with origin for VDSL (fibre) broadband earlier this year and I have had nothing but trouble. It's a gamble of whether I'll get home and find my broadband is working or not. The service is absolutely terrible. I'm writing this now after having my broadband down for 3 days. I've just spent 50 minutes on hold to technical support to be told that it's a widespread problem. You will find that any time there is an issue, it is always Openreach's fault and never anything that Origin can do. I'd also like to add that I'm calling technical support at midnight here, and it still takes nearly an hour to speak to someone so I dread to think what it's like during the day. I've spoken to them on a number of occasions and wasted many hours on the phone, to always be told it's an Openreach issue and there is nothing they can do but wait. A courtesy email, call or text really would help if there is an issue, or even some kind of update on their website. Please Origin, get it together. Until then, avoid avoid avoid and just pay a little bit extra to go with a reputable supplier!

Cheap but hopeless (in particular with regard to billing).

Started charging for calls when on an anytime package. Started charging 10 months into a 12 month 'free' broadband contract.

Customer service useless; I have switched to another provider but they are still refusing to refund what they owe (and which they had previously agreed to refund).

On top of that broadband service was average at best with frequent dropouts (I accept slow speed due to my location).

    Avoid at all costs

I switched to Origin because apprently with them I could have gotten fibre. And Plusnet as existing customer was extremely slow and very expensive.
However, I did not get fibre but get charged for it every month and have to phone customer services, which are a nightmare to get hold of. I have spent over 3 hours in the queue in customer services altogether according to my biil, until the broadband was running, then twice already over an hour each to get my bill amended and contract changed. You cannot reach them online, issues have to be reported phone.
    The connection keeops dropping constantly.
The only advantage is that they are a lot faster now than plusnet has been. I still will leave them as soon as my contract finishes, and definately not go back to them until they upgrade their customer service.

I am too exhausted from the wasted hours spent on the phone with this bunch of incompetents to write a detailed account of the horrors I have endured with Origin. I would simply advise anybody thinking of signing up with them to think again.

ORIGIN IS THE WORST QUALITY OF BROADBAND I’VE EVER USED. I have never left a review on anything but if this stops just one person from starting an Origin account then it’s worth it. It can’t cope with more than one person using it at a time and since I have switched it has been literally unusable, I know that sounds like a conspiracy but it took me 15 minutes to load this page just to leave a review. Customer service was pleasant every time I rang but the quality of connection is dreadful. It’s cheap for a reason, please do not sign up with Origin!!!!!

Origin agreed to a 2 year phone only contract on 1st August 2023. Paperwork was received confirming £23 per month including VAT. For my elderly aunt.

On 24th August they disconnected the phone line of an 89year old lady. They have admitted it was their error but would only reconnect with broadband and phone line at a cost of £33 inc VAT! No phone only deal. I’ve said to install the broadband as they now now apparently do not do just phone, I said to 8nstall both but at the agreed contract price that I have in writing, of £23. They broke the contract and offered £23 compensation . I decline on my aunts behalf.

Is this how they increase their profits? Agree to a contract price then break the contract. If we had cancelled the contract within two years there was a financial penalty.

I will be taking this complaint to the Ombudsman and the media.

    Do not use Origin.

My review is based upon the ongoing attempt to get any service from them. I swapped from very reliable but v expensive BT on March 4. It’s now April 9 and despite many attempts, it’s always 2 to 4 days away. They blame Openreach but have failed to investigate anything that might be their fault. I feel sorry for the front line staff who do their best. I fear that this will soon be another TOTO energy. Here today, gone tomorrow. Avoid!:

They blamed openreach for poor service then I switched provider at the end of my “contract” and it’s all sorted. Operators are rude and don’t know their own so T&C’s and therefore provide you with false, contradictory information. There’s clearly a lot of frustration as you can hear other operators shouting on calls (presumably at clients) in the background. Their email comms are also deceptive and misleading. They conveniently can’t find emails sent to them and as non-UK agents don’t seem to understand basic english phrases. Avoid if you don’t want to get fleeced or endure frustrating calls with long holds! I’ve since switched and my line is better and happily deal with friendly, UK-based agents.

I had my energy and broadband supplied by SSE which was a great service, it all moved to OVO energy and was all good until I found out I had been moved over to origin for my broadband without my consent, this is where it goes downhill, no internet for 4-5 hours at a time, tried phoning them but on a hold line for 2-3 hours at a time to be finally cut off ,the service is shambolic and that’s being polite, I have now come to the end of my tether and moved to SKY, I have cancelled my direct debit , it will be interesting to see how quickly they contact me

I made the stupid mistake of taking out a 12 month contract with this bunch of incompetent clowns. Even more stupidly I paid 12 months in advance to reduce the cost.
They took 4 weeks to connect me and then started charging me monthly as though I were an out-of-contract customer. Surely that is fraud?
The speed was around 50% of what I'd had with previous suppliers and their customer service so bad it was impossible to get anything done.
They charged me for a Caller Line Identification service I did not have - I still have had no refund of the overcharging.
After 11 months they attempted to take monthly line rental from my bank, even though I'd paid for a whole year.
Now I have decided to leave (one day outside my 12 month contract) they are wanting over £38 (yes, for one day's service!). I am not able to find out why as they have prevented my accessing my account ever since I told them I'm leaving.
Their 'customer service' consists of sending incomprehensible e-mails full of glaring mistakes - if you try to reply your response gets rejected by their server. The ONLY way to contact them is by telephone but no-one answers, you are left hanging and being deafened by very loud muzak for hours.

As a young mum and starting off in my own home with my 3 year old son, I wanted a cheap and realible broadband but since having origin installed into my home I’ve had nothing but problems with the internet. Every time my house phone rang the internet would lose connection and I’ve rang the company several times and I cannot fault the customer service as they’ve always been helpful, but I’ve noticed just recently my internet always looses connection before it’s due to be paid and a few days after. My stepdad is also a customer with origin and after speaking to him and addressing my issues to him about the situation with my broadband he has exactly the same problem. I feel like I’m forever restarting it, I know longer use my house phone and still have the same issue. I also went 3 months without internet it still made payments to the company and when I rang up about this they failed to tell me they recalled the first router as there was problems so then I waited another few days to receive the new router and I do believe it’s just as bad as the first one. I am so used to sorting the issue out myself I no longer have to ring the company to talk me through what I need to do to restart my router.

Moved to origin 5 month ago. Took the 38 Mbps fibre optic. However the speed recorded over a period of several days was 1.5 mbts with ethernet cable. Internet connection keeps cutting off. Apalling. My previous provder with normal broadband was much better than Origin. It is a rip off. I also took the anytime phone package. However unable to check itemised phone calls on the online service. Customer service seems to be ok at times but sometimes I had to wait for an hour. I will not renew with Origin again. Worse provider I had.

It's been 2 month I have Origin, it is the very worst experience with broadband I've ever had:
Started with a connection speed slower than 2G cellular, for 2 / 3 weeks. They fixed it...
And now it has been 3 times my internet connection just stops for a couple of days out of nowhere.
Been in contact with support 5 times total, more than 45m wait average, and their claim to have technical support 24/7 is a lie.
    Simply awful.

I have just informed Origin that I am cancelling my service aand moving to another provider. The reasons are as follows:
    1. I was formerly getting a slightly better-than-promised download speed, but 3 months ago the service deteriorated significantly and has not improved.
    2. There have been persistent problems with the Origin customer portal throughout my contract, and the portal remains inaccessible intermittently, resulting in not being able to access my account or invoices.
    3. Origin customer services call-wait-time is unacceptably long (One weekend I was waiting on the phone for over four hours and eventually gave up.) The customer service itself is totally unsatisfactory.
    4. It takes far too long for origin to reply to emails and service requests. As on 17th December I am still waiting for replies to emails sent on the 13th, 20th, and 24th November.
Overall, I have found Origin extremely disappointing, and I couldn't possibly recommend them.

AVOID THIS COMPANY - WORST EVER!!!
The service is absolutely rubbish and the support you get is the same except for a customer service guy called Mark who made the effort to keep me updated. I have had internet with them since the end of April 21 an we are now in middle of Sept 21 and I have had 5 engineers who have come out (1 taking 4 hours to get me up and running) as I keep losing the internet.

It is true when they say 'You get what you pay for' Well actually I am not even getting that.. ...paying for a service that I dont even get!!!!

I was with BT before and yes it was nearly double the price, BUT I NEVER had any internet problems in the 4 years I was with them....I had never heard of this two-bit company and I can see why.....
do you see any adverts for them....NO. That shouldve given me alarm bells...but I was too busy excited about the price!

PLEASE DO NOT EVEN THINK OF SIGNING UP TO THESE JOKERS, I am just counting down til I can wave goodbye them.

Looking at all these recent reviews of this company, we all cannot be wrong!

I've been with this company for two years and have been very disappointed with their services.
Modem keeps cutting off two to three times a day.
I gave them 30 days notice that I didn't want their services any more, and that I didn't want them to take the up front fee for another year that they were requesting.
I was assured that this wouldn't happen.
To my surprise they cut me off after 10 days! I called them about it and was told it was an error on their behalf and that it would take 14 days to re connect and that I needed to renew my contract with them!!
In addition to this, they had the audacity to go ahead and take the renewal fee for £193.23 from my bank account twice!
I had to call my bank to get the money refunded.
I have requested that they release my phone number for the new supplier who will request my phone number. The new supplier can't start their services for another 20 days.
I've been left with no phone or internet, that I had paid for up front thanks to them. I'm sure they did this on purpose for leaving them. I've read other similar posts by others.
I have made a formal complaint to them. I was told someone was going to contact me to try and resolve the issue. Still waiting after five days!

Very poor service internet is always cutting out. Took 14 days + before I got the router which is the cooling off period so know am tied to the contract. Tried umpteen times to get through to someone in customer services but get cut off after hanging on for 45minutes. Not happy with these.

We joined Origin in January 2017 after our Sky broadband contract came to an end and we wanted to find a cheaper service. I found Origin and paid £189.99 for 12 months upfront, which worked out much cheaper. Though it is now October, we are on the third major issue with them - the internet is intermittent and cuts out periodically/doesn't work at all. Devices ask for the password to be entered multiple times, sometimes without it then connecting. I rang Origin and was on hold for well over an hour to speak to the technical support team. Tried again last night, same issue - after being on hold for about 30 minutes we got cut off, so when I rang back was assured there was only a 12 minute wait for the tech team. I gave up and my husband took over waiting - at least an hour and 20 minutes after I was first placed on hold, he gave up and put the phone down. Customer service is shocking, most of the time they don't appear to have any idea what they're talking about. When it works, Origin are fine. When it doesn't work (all too often), Origin are awful. Please avoid them! As soon as we can get out of our contract we will do

Origin Broadband may seem attractive because of their low prices, and that's half the reason I took the leap, but it was honestly the worst mistake I ever made. While I like to take chances on smaller relatively unknown companies, this was one of the few times that decision has bitten me in the butt.

First, I'd be surprised if your connection remains stable for longer than a few weeks. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times our internet went offline without warning, sometimes for days at a time. This wasn't limited to just me, either, check Twitter, more often than not, huge regions of customers will be completely cut off without warning.

On the rare occasion it is online, connection speeds fluctuate no matter what time of day it is. This is likely due to the outdated tech that they call a "router". But hey, if you have a couple of hundred quid to throw their way, you can buy their more up-to-date router.

Oh, and their customer support, I kid you not, is the same person every time I've called. But don't worry, why not head on over to Twitter to express your concern? A few times I'd spoken to their customer service via Twitter who seemed to "solve" the problem for me (they didn't) and reimburse some of my bill for the inconvenience (they didn't) as well as correct a double-charge on my account (they didn't).

Oh and don't even dare Tweet at them directly with complaints about their terrible service because they'll just block you. Yep. Having simply tweeted them about losing connection (again) I went to check their page for a status update and low and behold, I'd been blocked. Bloody good customer service there. Ignore the problem and it'll go away.

You're right, I did go away, to another ISP.

TL;DR - Origin Broadband is a terrible company with unstable connection and abysmal customer service. I'd avoid at all costs even if the deal seems too good to miss.

The switch from TalkTalk was easy, the router arrived early and connected easily
However, the Broadband was not turned on, speed at 0.1Mb. I assumed it soon would be, but I had to go away for 5 weeks. When I returned the broadband was still not on. I called and was told it would be within 24-48 hours, but that was incorrect. I called again and was told they could not connect me for 12 days!!
So I am in limbo at the moment; very poor

When I was sold this package which still isn’t working I was told as i have the correct line into my property no engineers need to be in my property , I was assured the router was plug and play and it would be delivered on the Thursday so I took the day off lost a days pay , I was at work the following week when my phone rang “ey up I’m outside tha house I’ve cime to install your phone line !!! On the day the router was meant to arrive I stayed in all day only to be told that they had missed the first line of my address off so it went back to the depo, when I plugged in the router after tracking it down it wouldn’t work I spent the next 4 hrs either in hold or constantly being told by a series of people to turn it in and off I was finally told someone would ring me back by 530 which they never did still not working I’ve never dealt with such a shambolic out fit beware

We unfortunately signed up for internet with this company. WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE. We have never had a single day of consistent internet access. We have contacted them on so many occasions it is unreal. We get excuses and lies, conflicting information from whoever we speak to. Nobody will take ownership of our problems.
I urge everybody to steer clear of this rogue outfit, they cannot live up to their own hype nor provide the service you pay for.
As the majority of other reviews state..........
Poor customer service and an even worse internet connection.
    AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Since the closure of digital region their service has taken a steady downward decline. I have had a fault on my line now for 10 days and they are nowhere near finding and fixing the problem. Their customer service is very poor in many aspects. my advice is stay away.

The worst broadband supplier in all my over 15 years of using broadband. They have the worst customer service and technical support I have ever had to endure. I will be moving off their service (and I use that word in the loosest sense) as soon as I possibly can.

I moved to Origin Broadband as it was cheaper than Sky, now i know why. The only way you can interact with them is over the phone, there is no email support and no web ticketing facility, the phone support lines have very very very long wait times. I've never actually been able to get through. I contacted them on Twitter and they send me a direct message saying they would arrange for someone to call me ASAP. I've been waiting over week so far with no phone call

The speed compared to Sky is terrible, lots of buffering and visibly slow pages load times.

If I could give them zero stars I would have.

Switched from Talk Talk to Origin in July 2017 with a promise of ADSL up to 17mb. The maximum download achieved using Origin is never more than 5.9 mb. Talk Talk Down & Up was a couple of Mb faster. It seems Origin use BT openreach so in reality there is not much of a free and open market in the UK as BT wants people to use there equally slow FTTC whilst they fail to bother to upgrade the copper / ally cable network.

Why did I ever change . Previous great service from BT & Sky and never had one single issue . I joined this company for price and I actually wanted to give some business to the little guys . The fact is I want them to succeed but they have chewn off far more than they capable of. Chased the buck instead of producing a good quality product for the masses.
Since January I have probably had 10 separate issues and in total wasted close to a good 24 hours of my life on hold or problem solving . Also use very crafty tactics by sending the router 3 weeks after set up when the cooling period is 2 weeks . I've seen this has been an issue for other people . You are then locked in with nowhere to go . Poor behaviour.

Warning ⚠️ Always stick to the tried and tested suppliers if you want an easy life . I hope they can resolve their issues but for now this is a terrible product plagued with issues .

I've been with a few different ISP's over the years and Origin are by far the worse.
I pay for 76mb fibre broadband. I've just submitted them a reading of 0.5mb on the download and 1.3mb on the upload, mind you that was quite fast - it's been as low as 0.13mb download speed.
This has been going on since I had the contract and I've spent countless hours on the phone, talking of which I've now been waiting for over an hour. Again.
This is how an Origin Broadband customer spends their evening.
The only positive thing I can say is it's UK call centres (based in Doncaster) and the staff are very friendly.
I used to be with Sky and I'm hoping I can get out of this contract and go back with them even thou they are slightly more expensive.
Currently looking to make a complaint with the ombudsman of which I've never done in my life but that should give you an idea of how bad it is.

I am typing this using my mobile 3G! had no stable connection for the last 3 months with failed attempts from Origin to fix it. before that speed was very slow compared with my previous provider (to same address) Origin refused to cancel my contract without penalty , every time I need to speak to them 30-40 min on hold. DO NOT BUY

Nightmare of a company from start to finish, they wont send you the broadband kit until after 14 days, then the cooling off period has expired before you begin to attempt to use the hopeless internet

they don’t guarantee ANY speeds via Wifi, so if you want to use iPhones, Firestick etc, they guarantee 1mb download via ethernet... welcome to 1999 speeds people! - all this was after being told at point of sale i would get 4mb as a minimum via Wifi

Customer service is appalling, in the end i paid them in total £150 to terminate the contract after one month!

Utter useless, do not use Origin broadband!!

I should have trusted these reviews before ordering Origin. I just moved house and went for the cheapest option, as a more expensive provider was not completely satisfactory in a previous flat either. I ordered the fibre package and did not hear from Origin until I called them myself after 8 days of waiting. They had promised to call me and give me an installation date within 4 days from my order. I was on hold for 26 minutes until being told by the lady that Origin does not actually provide the speed I ordered to my flat, but their website does not provide for customers to check that prior to their order. They wanted to sell me a lower speed package, which I declined. On the plus side, the call to customer service was free and I was refunded what I had already paid, but I think it's awful that no one called me up to tell me that what I ordered is not actually available.

    Awful experience! Avoid if possible.

It takes around 45 min to go speak with someone if you have any issues, and around 1h30min until you can speak with the right person in the right department.

It took us more than a month to have the line up and running. We have been having cut offs for the last 6 months and still unresolved. Avoid!

dont buy! they steal your money and time
worse service I could have ever imagine. It took 26 days to get an engineer to come and get the line active. That didnt happen, then they sent the router a day before my line was suppose to be active, to a wrong address. I had to deal with parcelforce myself. Impossible to call them because there's a waiting time and after 30 minutes of wait they hang up on you.
Cant even cancel as my line is "active" and I obviously still have no service.
DONT EVER BUY. Bunch of thieves.

This is literally the worse possible choice for broadband you could choose. They give you the cheapest possible router which can barely handle the basic functions so I had to buy my own. But problems still persist as your line will go down randomly almost every day and you'll be throttled at peak times almost every day. You'll get held prisoner with an 18 month contract which costs £200+ to break. Scam, avoid at all costs.
