This is possibly one of the worst companies I have ever had any dealings with. We signed up to a 12 month fixed price contract as we thought the price was good. What a mistake. From the moment we changed over to them, our internet became almost non-existent. It would drop out for hours, sometimes days on end. It even got to the point where our printer could not connect to the network and refused to print anything at all. When we called customer service, we would be fobbed off with a load of excuses and put on hold for sometimes up to 20 minutes, finally being put through to their 'Technical' team who all sounded like they were completely clueless. We never once had any problems resolved by them. This went on for 3 months and after endless calls with no resolution we decided to leave and pay the breaking contract fee. We emigrated over to Sky and it was the best thing we've ever done. For £3.00 more a month the service is infinitely better and so is the customer service. If you want to keep your sanity, I suggest you avoid Origin like the plague - there are just as good offers to be had elsewhere with a much better all round service.

Slow speeds and I mean slow. Nowhere near the package that I signed up for. If you need to get in touch to complain make sure you have a few hours free as it'll take you a while to get through. They don't connect you until the cooling off period has expired so they can charge you the full contract if you want to leave. The billing is random amounts. They re authorise cancelled dd too which my bank says can't happen so think it must be fraud too.

Incredibly disappointed with my experience with Origin. I was with them for over a year before cancelling. The speed and reliability was poor, with streaming tv services constantly buffering. At least four times in the year I had to call up to report that the Wi-Fi had gone completely for no reason. When I called to cancel they said that all broadband services to my address would have the same issues, which was not true, I was with Sky for about 6 years with no problems. Then, they didn't bother telling me that as I was cancelling I would need to return the router. This also wasn't mentioned in the cancellation email they sent. When I phoned to query why I was being charged £40 they said it was because I had to return the router. Apparently this is in the terms and conditions, but I pointed out that given the high cost, why would this not be mentioned in the phone call when I cancelled. This is blatantly a scam because they know most people won't read the terms and conditions.

Hi all, I total enough for this rubbish boardband company. I wish I can give ZERO star to "Origin Boardband".

I shared my review at Trustpilot on 8/4 (please go there to read the details) and I also dropped a review on Google Reviews today too. Simple to say my internet service is still extremely poor since I joined Origin in Jan 2018. The internet connection drop out at least 3 times in a day and the internet speed is crazy slow (I used to use Sky which was just the simple boardband service still faster than Origin "fibre" service). When I contacted Origin, my internet speed is only reach 18mps (even right now is still the same). Their answer is my internet speed is good enough and the fiber speed is reached their standard speed 38mps. But this 38mps is only when you use the cable/ emble wire connect from the router to your laptop. It’s laptop!!! Who will use a laptop with a wire at home?? When I used the internet service from Sky (only the normal broadband I got 36-38MPs wireless all the time).

I have been in touch with their technician team since I joined Origin. All the solutions just repeat and repeat (put a cable to do tests to check the internet speed or remove the screws at the socket then insert micro filter). It's 4 months now, there is no improvement at all.

They forgot to send me the router, so I had no internet for 6 weeks, but was still charged.

During the contract, regularly dropped connection and speed much slower than previous provider.

After cancelling the contract, they continued to take money from my account, and then could only refund it 30 days after I complained.

    Badly run. Avoid.

Rubbish speed, can't achieve the speed of the package they sell you even tho there is a lower speed package. Fraudulently re authorise direct debits. Bad customer service, that's if you can actually get through. Would give 0 stars if I could. Steer clear.

Without a shadow of doubt, this is the worst broadband supplier of ALL time. Broadband speed? Don't make me laugh. Reliability - dropped out several times a week. End of contract have to send back their router. They signed for on 16 April and on 1 May I'm still being chased for payment for non return of router. This lot couldn't run a bath let alone a business. If it was possible to take stars away I would. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. You'll waste years of your life waiting for them to answer the phone

Dreadful. Don't sign up to Origin Broadband. Truly rubbish service.

    Internet:
The broadband service often stops working. This means a long time on hold to speak to customer support. In practie I often I have had to use my mobile phone as a broadband hotspot.

Internet speed this week as low as 0.05 MB/s. Never been faster than 0.2 MB/s

    Telephone line:
My telephone line cuts out after a single ring, so I rarely get to answer it.

    Customer portal:
I can't even access the website because they keep changing my username. I have been provided with four different usernames to log in with (each time I am assured that this is the right one and the previous one was a mistake).

Yesterday (29th April 2018) I was given another username when I asked for an explanation as to why I couldn't access the website. This is the same as the second username I was given, so we are now going around in a circle. But today (30th April 2018) I get an error messag when I try to login. "Oops! We couldn't find that."

    Unexplained charges:
Yesterday I said I was leaving Origin broadband. I got an email saying that there was a £40 "router charge". I have no memory of this being included in my contract. But of course I can't access the website to check because of "Oops! We couldn't find that."

Quite literally the worst ISP i have ever had to deal with. I purchased 38mb fibre in April 2017. My average download speed for the first 3 months was 3mb. I left complaint after complaint with their support team, which usually took over an hour on hold and being passed between departments. 4 months into my term, my download speed was fixed, and the latency was broken! 180ms to get to google, so VOIP calls / gaming went straight out of the window. It took another 3 months for me to get through to someone who logged a fault with Open Reach. At this point i asked to cancel my contract, and i was told i would have to pay off my entire 18 month contract to do that. I left it until this week, where i asked if i could move my connection to my new house as my rent contract was up, and was told i would have to sign another 18 month contract or pay off my remaining months, with a £30 cancellation charge! Do not deal with this company.

Terrible service and fraudulent actions. Paid and signed up for a 74mb broadband service and after a couple of weeks rang them to see why I was only getting 15mb (this was the highest speed I got it was usually around 7mb) then was told I could only get UPTO 27mb in my area. Tried to cancel and they said I couldn't as was out of the cooling off period, even though this was under 14 days since my connection started but took over 2 weeks for my broadband to go live, so they're not that stupid. Cancelled the direct debit and posted the router back to them. They then set up a direct debit without my authorisation and continued to take money out of my account. I had to get in touch with the bank to stop them taking any more money. I was probably in the wrong doing this but didn't see why I should pay for a service when they had lied about the speed. They have now passed my bill for the full cost of the contract to a debt recovery agency and the ombudsman are having to deal with the case. Not worth the hassle and wouldn't recommend this company to anyone.

Origin Broadband really deserves a negative amount of stars.

Setting it up took forever. Of course, you pay extra for it and already pay for the broadband even though it is not yet working.

The internet speed is really poor and if you restart the router it takes at least half an hour until the internet works again.

They are a paperless company, which I at first thought was a good thing. But for origin that just means that you don't get any written confirmation regarding your order (or termination) at all. Their costumer portal is a joke.

They terminated my service a week early. Unnecessary to say that they were not competent enough to correct the mistake.

The only thing they were good with was the billing. They usually charged me two months in advance.

Here we are 12th April 2018 and I'm STILL trying to get back my money that Origin took from my direct debit as I paid a year upfront. I later found they had also been taking monthly payments from my Bank account and eventually had to close the direct debit to stop them doing it as they continued even after I complained.

Now they send me unpleasant emails as I don't have the direct debit open, but can't until they deal with it and stop taking my money they are not due or entitled to.

I have had up till now 4 Origin employees apologising saying they will sort it and no completion, I have asked for a Manager to contact me but nothing yet.

I can only give this honest review as they have been given several opportunities to rectify the issues.

I have been trying to get them to sort it in between my chemotherapy, and it's not on as don't need dreadful customer service at this time, and after reading the reviews I was disappointed as maybe should not have done another year.

Generally the broadband I get is ok for me, occasional dropouts but I have been satisfied, their ability to sort this simple thing says a lot about them, without Origin sending me emails " how did we do, win £50" ?

Just return my money Origin and I can do another direct debit if you promise not to take more money your not entitled to.

First day left Origin Broadband and I am so happy after suffering 12 months of flaky and slow broadband. I am going to take the hit of £40 router because frankly (1) you cant get through on the phone (nope, you cannot email them) and (2) other comments about still waiting on refunds, think I'd value my happiness and save the hassle. I now moved and pay another telco at the same price but I get 36Mbps down rather than 4Mbps. So happy to move away from the Origin Broadband.

The very worst service I have had from an internet service provider!

The router is crap. It can barely send the signal to the bedroom directly above the router position. if your not within 4m of the router your signal strength is low, once you leave the room and stand behind a wall the signal to beyond weak. I reported the issue and had to pay for a new router, but the replacement was no better. I live in medium sized house, so there should be no issue with signal throughout the House. All previous providers routers had no issues getting signal throughout the house.

as I work from home it became impossible for me to work effectively and therefor costing me time and money which I can no longer cope with.
I endured extremely low speeds of between 4megs and 11megs for 12 months without any improvement (and that's when I had service at all, often it just wouldn't work). Today I had enough and I ended my contract, I was then hit with a £196.50 charge. I had asked that they release me from contract, but they refused, so I must now expend even more time and energy trying to recover this charge through the Ombudsman. Weather or not I'll get it back is questionable, but I decided its a small price to pay to leave and join a provider where you can actually used the service your paying for.

I reviewed my phone contract and over the last 13 months I over spent each and every month as the broadband was running too slow or crashing. constantly having to disconnect from the broadband at home to use my data allowance. My over spend as per the below was exclusively due to the broadband not working, I never used to exceed my limits before joining Origin. Over spend below:

    May 17' +£16.31
    Jun 17' +£8.59
    Jul 17' +21.58
    Aug 17' +£11.67
    Sept17' +£16.51
    Oct 17' +£24.31
    Nov 17' +£14.01
    Dec 17' +£32.55
    Jan 18' +£7.01
    Feb 18' +£11.07
    Mar 18' +£18.63
    Apr 18' +£4.05

A total Overspend on my phone contract of Approx £175.00. Thanks Origin!!

Avoid at all cost!!!! Pay the extra £5 per month and join one of the more trusted brands!!

Fibre broadband frequently drops out for minutes at a time during evenings. Regularly find websites blocked due to "Unusual traffic from your IP address." Static IP address was changed with no warning. Spent more hours than I care to think about listening to their on-hold music and staff have never called me back despite promises on several occasions. They are currently blocking Vodafone so my SureSignal box can't connect - Zero progress with this for 6 days now despite calling every day.

No problem during the lifetime of my contract, but on changing providers, was charged for services after my broadband service switched, and 4 months on have still to receive a refund for this charge (or even an acknowledgement that I have been overcharged). Also, a charge of £40 will be made for the router unless it is returned to Origin Broadband (they refund the postage up to £3.50, but the cheapest postage cost is £3.90).

The worst provider I've ever had. Less than half the BB speed of any one else and got worse over the year I've been stuck with them. Also hardly a day has gone by without losing my connection. On top of being very poor value their customer service is terrible. On joining they changed my landline number without telling me, did nothing to correct this, for months the landline didn't work anyway. Really in every way awful.

The worst customer service, the worst bandwidth speed - just the worst supplier I have had to deal with. Do NOT use them for your broadband.

Setting up was painful - I provided all of my banking details online, but they could not take the first payment because they lost my sort code number. I had to highlight this to them as they did not inform me and I only noticed that they did not take my payment out of my bank. For the first month, as I set it up on the 2nd February, I had to pay the full price - not my promised discounted price for the first 12month contract. I admit that this is in the fine print that I should've read, but sue me - I skim-read and prioritised finalising moving house.

I then moved house into a temporary property that already had an internet provider, before the end of contract was due. I called and emailed but did not recieve any response until a few weeks later (after I moved out of my previous property) I cancelled my direct debit as I did not want to be charged unecessarily for broadband that I was not officially using.

The email I recieved from their Debt Recovery Team then highlighted the costs that I still had remaining to pay. During our back on forth via email, they were not forthcoming with details about how to pay these charges or how to return their special router that did not originally arrive for 2weeks. The kicker of paying £5+ for the return of their router further cemented to me that Origin Broadband was the worst mistake in choosing them as my broadband supplier.

The only person to have rang me was from billing dept telling me I would have my bill reduced yeah that did happen but that's all ,off the subject slightly I read reviews on this site and what concerns ME is origin are not THE worst there are others HOW can this BE ?if it was a main car dealership they would be named and shamed ,and another thing BLAME the isp providers blame BT who in turn blame the isp providers ,so I've had my 2 cents worth as our American cousins would say bye happy surfing from col

Terrible company. Poor broadband speed. Terrible customer service. They never call back or do what they say they will. You sit on hold for literally hours. They kept charging me for an extra service that I didn’t have and even though they said they would stop, they didn’t. Had to cancel my direct debit to stop the charges. Do not use this provider!

The Broadband speed is very poor. I don't believe it is even accurate to class it as broadband, despite what their staff tell me.

Download is barely 2Mbps. The Upload is barely 0.5Mb. Buffering is the norm when attempting to stream HD or higher via a TV or via a Laptop. If you upload videos then it can take literally days, depending on the file size. Painfully slow. So slow that I use my Phone as a hotspot as it is 5x faster. Like many here, my connection also drops from time to time or becomes unavailable for a period.

The customer service is terrible. At least in terms of response rates and waiting times. It's normal to wait 30 minutes on the phone. Any emails seem to be ignored. Once you actually speak with someone the person is usually fine.

I was charged £100 to change socket. There were 4 in the house and Origins of course had the worse place one. I asked to be placed in the best placed one but they could only put in in the 2nd worst place.

Have tried to boost the speeds but to no avail. Will probably abandon the contract and buy myself out.

    Extremely poor. Would not recommend.

Awful company to deal with, my download speed between 1-4 max. No one answers the customer service phone. Have phoned many times, if you do manage to speak to someone they are really unhelpful. Truly the worse broadband provider experience. Do yourself a favour and stay well clear of this company.

Awful experience from this company both from a technical viewpoint and from a customer services perspective...

Regular drop outs and drops in speed to unusable levels, 1 year into an 18 month contract and I am counting the days as they wont let me leave without penalty.

Had a different router, been plugged into the test port I don't know how many times, had an engineer out all after spending hours on the phone to 1st line being asked to turn it off and then back on again (I work in IT so I have been really patient with them but really!!!).

They are now replying to emails when 10 days have elapsed essentially asking "is it still broke". I have a formal complaint in place to try and get a deadlock letter so I can go to ofcom.

BTW before I moved my fibre connection to Origin I was with BT and didn't have a single drop out the whole year. In the last year I've had about 4 or 5 most days, sometimes being lucky and just getting a couple.

A dreadful service provider. I am frequently without internet access. My router came unconfigured. I have had to manually reset the settings for my router 3 times in 6 months. I was on hold for 45 minutes, then was cut off instead of transferred to another department. I was then on hold for a further 50 minutes, trying to get through to someone. I have been overcharged, told i would receive a refund, but am still waiting for it, 4 months later. I am disgusted by the cancellation policy - pay the full balance of the fixed term (i asked for, and was told i had signed up for, a rolling contract, not a fixed term) and £25 extra for the priviledge. When I enquired whether i was better off leaving the contract to run out (monthly payments instead of an immediate lump sum and to avoid the cancellation fee), I was told that any calls made from this address for the remainder of my contract would be charged to me, regardless of the new occupier changing provider. I am appalled by this shambolic business. I would strongly advise you to avoid origin broadband.

Have been with origin coming up for a year in June ,it's been an interesting time ,first 3 days great speeds ,Thursday signal lost rang origin eventually sorted ,but couple of days later no signal ,emails sent no response ,eventually I wrote a letter to origin ,and got a reply from CEO no less promising me that it had priority and his top man was on it.it did get sorted ,but it's back to its old tricks 0.17 mbs wow ring up it's your exchange blah blah ,I am thinking of looking elsewhere but I read reviews of other isp and I am amazed at some of the reviews how do these companies get away with can only be described as shoddy ,I understand people out in the countryside have in signal drop out but I live in an urban area so what's the reasons ISP providers blame BT who in turn blame the ISP so that's my review of ORIGIN tatty bye

It's a common thing with Origin, dropout after dropout on broadband. When it's up the speed is maybe 2Mb on a good day but it forever drops out so not much use. Their billing philosophy is naff, charging a month up front before connecting and then charging a high rate for a partial month after connection plus the next month in advance. I'm giving up after suffering for 12 months and expect a battle getting a refund for what I've paid in advance. It's cheap but still not worth it because it's so unreliable

Terrible broadband service with regular drop outs and low speeds. We were repeatedly billed incorrectly including an attempt to continue to bill us after we had finished the contract and moved to another supplier. Customer services are woefully understaffed and resolving all of our various issues required long periods of waiting on hold. Don't be tempted by their low prices and choose another supplier.

We were looking for a budget package for a holiday let and found a deal from Origin costing £154 per annum if you pay a year up front. Sounds great, right? 3 months later though still no working broadband!

We first placed the order end of Dec 2017. First of all they cocked up the initial order and activation was delayed by over a month. Then when we came to connect to the internet couldn't get online. Spent over an hour on the phone to technical help configuring the router. Still no internet.

Technician says an engineer visit might be necessary and he'll contact BT. Over a week later, no appt booked. So I call back. No-one has contacted BT! An engineer from BT visited the property today and is 100% sure the problem is not theirs, but probably a faulty router.

I can't wait any longer as I have paying guests arriving soon who are expecting broadband as part of the deal. I am cancelling my contract and want a full refund. I'll stick to BT in the future.

Communication is terrible. Emails go unanswered, they say they'll do something and then don't do it. AVOID THESE AMATEURS!

    Stay away from Origin.
It was bad first week after some connection problems outside of the flat.
Good for the next two weeks, now bad again.
Any browser I choose to use sometimes is slower than, they said to test the speed on my own.Pointless,it says I got 5 mbps download, upload is almost dead or viceversa.
Just stay away,I don't even bother to contact them. I have issues everyday with them.

Never a day goes by where the connection does not grind to a halt. High pings, data transfers nowhere near the synch speed and sites not reachable. They are a joke.

    AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Awful service right from the start. I initially paid them for the service on the 12th January. Its over 2 months later & I still don't have broadband! There's always one issue after another. From being misinformed of needing to be at the property for the technician to the router not working and being told it's faulty and another 1 will be sent out and then a week later - no router. I ring up to ask when it'll be delivered and they tell me the order was cancelled & I wasn't even told! I'm still waiting for it to be resolved with no date set for it to be fixed & I'm expected to take another day off work to be here in case the technician needs to come back into the property. Awful service - I would not recommend

Awful awful service. I have been with 0.5Mb broadband (wired) for nearly 20 days now and am paying £33 per month. I email and ring up constantly and get no response. I emailed again to ask why they are ignoring me and I get sent 'LOL' from one of their customer services representatives. Please DO NOT use origin broadband.
