Tariam Satellite Broadband offers customers anywhere in the UK and the rest of Europe the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of fast Internet access - particularly in those areas where terrestrial broadband is currently unavailable, the so called broadband ’not spots’.
The service uses two way satellite communications technology, offering download speeds up to 3.6Mbps (3584 kbps) and upload at up to 384 kbps. File transfer speeds are up to 64 times faster than dial-up, and up to 7 times faster than slower rural fixed line broadband connections over a BT telephone line.
Monthly costs are cheap starting from only £35 for 2.4GB usage, but the one off installation of the satellite technology costs almost £700 for hardware, delivery and engineer installation so this is a service only for those unable to achieve a broadband connection by any other means.
