Hi everyone,
Im an online gamer on my PS3 and occasionally my internet just drops out intermittently. Sometimes it'll drop after about an hour of the router being turned on but most of the time my router stays on for about 6 hours before it seems to "reset itself" and i get dropped again. I am wired completely with my laptop, my PC and my PS3. So I shouldn't be getting any dropped connections at all. Yet I am I use a Linksys WAG160N Modem/Router. I first rung my ISP and they said my line didnt support the signal or something but I've had Broadband for 8 years. Last year these drop-outs were becoming more frequent but then I took out our second phone line we had in our house and I then was only getting drop every 6 hours on the dot. Now, out of the blue, these drops have become more frequent for some reason. As i said before I first rung my ISP and they blamed BT so I rung BT to do a Line check and they said everythings working fine so there is nothing with my exchange or the master socket itself. So it brings me to being either 1 of 3 problems. My telephone extension cable (10m long), my filter or my router. I've gone through about 5 or 6 routers over the past few years. So whats my next option from here? Am I best to invest in a new extension cable, a new filter or a new router? By the way here is the way I have everything set up. I have a 3-way telephone adapter plugged into my Master socket. 1) For Sky with a micro filter. 2) My telephone with a filter. 3) A BT extension cable directly plugged into the master socket then a micro filter at the end which is then plugged into my router. Do I have everything set up wrong? Is that why I'm getting drops or is it just a faulty extension cable and why is it I get drops at EXACTLY 6 hours after its turned on as well as the intermittent ones after a approximately an hour after being switched on? Thanks for you help, Darren |

Could be a number of things, but try these as they're cheap!
1. make sure that the first thing in your main phone socket is the micro-filter. Plug all your extensions, etc into that not the other way round. 2. make sure the router has the latest firmware (visit linksys to download it if it hasn't) 3. make sure on the router you have set the maximum lifespan for the DHCP. i.e. 99999, it's possible that the 4. make sure your router isn't overheating, i.e. it is somewhere with reasonable ventilation. 5. if none of that helps, buy a surge protector for the router (a cheap one will do), it's possible that your power supply is spiking and that's causing the problem. Hope this helps. BR Best Router - wireless modems & routers reviews and info |

Every few weeks the broadband service provided by Nildram goes down on a Friday morning, then for the remainder of the day the connection is intermittent. Last Friday 16 April 2010 we were advised that there has been a router problem at the Lower Holloway (North London) BT exchange and the disruption in service out of Nildram's hands. BT Lower Holloway confirmed our dedicated broadband line was fully working. If we understand Nildram correctly, there is no legal target for what consitutes an broadband service and/or connection. Is this correct?
Any thoughts on why we might be experiencing a problem with Nildram's internet service from the Lower Holloway telephone exchange? What is it about Fridays? Our large office needs a premium broad provider any suggestions who else we can use? Any suggestions on how to follow up these frequent outtages and get an answer? In Nildram's favour the UK based help desk team are friendly, constructive and helpful but on this subject we never seem to get a full answer. |
