Line speed reporting issues
Hi, can anyone suggest whats going on here.
Last week the land line was rented by the company I worked for. A BT line test (broadband speed potential) returned 8Mb as the potential speed I could achieve. Indeed I was getting around 7.2-7.5Mbs (for last two years.)
This week I have had the line directly transferred to personal ownership. (no wire changes etc.) and the same check reports maximum speed capability of 6.5Mb's.
Note this is only what the BT linespeed checker reports. Why has it changed? I haven't suddenly moved an extra Kilometre from the exchange (I'm 132 meters from the exchange). The wires taking the signal hasn't changed so why is it that I get the variation?
I suspect that personal users are being short changed by BT who are 'managing' the line speeds. I bet any ISP will not supply me with a faster connection than reported so the push is to suppress achievable speeds.
regards,
bon
