Hi Chris,

Apart from the slow speed test are you finding your connection is slow when you try to access websites or do anything else online? Are you seeing problems all day long or just in the afternoon or evenings?

The alternative suppliers available will depend on where you live, so if you post your postcide we'll be able to give you a better idea of your options.

Thanks

Hi Chris

We need your full postcode to be able to work out whether the speeds you are getting are unusual (and to see what your alternative suppliers are). If you don't want to post the full code on the forums then email our expert at expert@broadband.co.uk and he will assist you.

Thanks

Hi Chris

Thanks for the postcode, our checks show you should be getting speeds nearer 6Mbps on a standard ADSL line, however with cable or ADSL2+ suppliers you could get speeds much higher. If you email us your telephone number we can do a more detailed check.

In your area some of the fastest providers are available such as:

Virgin Broadband - deals up to 50Mbps
O2 Broadband - deals up to 20Mbps
Be Broadband - deals up to 24Mbps

I'd definitely check out these 3. If you want any more advice then just let us know.
Thanks

Before you change you need to check a few things to ensure you have it installed correctly. Have you contacted their customer service to check everything is OK, I would do this first else you may experience the same kind of problem with another supplier.
Have you installed microfilters on all the telephone sockets that are in use in the house? If you miss one this can affect your speed.
Are you using wi-fi to connect your computer to the internet? Bad wi-fi reception could be affecting your signal. Try moving your computer closer to the wi-fi point or better still try an ethernet cable.
Have you tried connecting the modem to your master telephone socket? That should be the one with the BT logo on it. This will be the fastest socket in your house.Your house telephone wiring will pick up noise that can interfere with your ability to get a good speed on your line, this should be minimised by using your master socket. If you have a split plate on your master socket you can remove the cover and then plug your modem (with microfilter) into the exposed socket. This will disconnect all your telephone extensions and your home telphone wiring so if this has been picking up noise from interference you will have removed it from the equation. Now try a speed test. If you are still getting a slow speed and you are the only person using the internet during your test then you need to call their customer service and ask them to repair your line.

HI,
I have had 4 months of hell trying to get sense out of Orange customer support. In June I was capped for exceeding their download limit set out in their fair usage policy (on an unliited package?). It was a fair cop, I didn't read the small print when I took it out - who does?
Orange originally claimed I was not capped despite sending then 3 speed tests over a 24 hour period. Instead they instigated a series of exchange and line tests inclduing BT engineers who reported no problems. Eventually they admitted the cap had been applied.
Imaging my optimism when I received a letter to say usage had reduced (try watching iPlayer ona 0.5MB connection!) and they would remove the cap within 7 days :-) 11 days later I rang to ask why my speed was still capped to be told yes it was, then no it wasn't, then they claimed the line will not support more than 0.5MB!!!! My account details on their web site report my line will support up to 4.5MB confirmed by web checks on my post code and telephone number!!!!!!!!
Orange csutomer support are at all times courteous and polite but none that I have spoken to have a clue about my account. You can go one level higher to a supervisor but no further and for written complaints they only supply the customer care address and claim not to know the name or address of the chairman.
I am looking around for an alternative. Any suggestions?
Regards
TimB

Angry Re: orange BB

Hi, I have just been looking round the Webb for a new broadband provider, and came across this site.
I too am with Orange and have been for about eight years, ever since it was freeserve.
Because their Customer Help Line is in Asia I have trouble understanding some of the people I have dealt with, some are excellent at helping and some don't know very much at all!

I have sent two letters to Orange because my broadband stops working between 4pm and 5pm every evening, and doesn't connect again until around 8am in the morning. I am retired so I can use the Webb during the day, but it is infuriating to me when it goes off every night.

After ringing Asia a few times I got so frustrated that I rang the "I Want To Leave Orange" number, and wonder of wonders I managed to speak to someone in the UK who (after checking my line) explained that I had a fault!! They said it would be repaired and an engineer would ring me when it was. Of course my line did not get repaired, and no engineer rang me.
Orange say there is a fault on the line, but that is as far as it goes. I pay £19.50 per month, so I am now looking for a new supplier, but I am hesitant because I may make a mistake and get some company that is a worse provider!!
Regards Heather
