Huawei D100 Router Data Leak?
Hi,
A while back I bought a second hand Huawei D100 WiFi router and have noticed that I seem to be using a great deal more of my 15Gb monthly allowance than I have calculated I would. I installed a network traffic monitor on the PC and have noticed that there is a considerable difference between what traffic is going in and out of the PC via the three 3G mobile link and what I am being told when I look at the usage page on my three account (700Mb of more usage than expected the last time I checked).
The PC has Antivirus/Spyware/Firewall spftware on it and I have downloaded and tried free version aswell just to see if they picked up and viruses or trojans but non of them did.
What makes me think the data leak comes from the router is that when I noticed the problem I connected the dongle directly to the PC via USB cables (3 5m USB repeater cables actually as I need the 3G dongle on the otherside of the house to get a reasonable HSDPA connection, 2-2.5Mb). When the connection is set up like this my usage is as expected. Tried this a few times now and after a couple of days of puting the D100 router back in the loop and usage goes up again.
I have checked and setup the security features on the router, changed passwords and encryption Key on router and turned off the WiFi broadcasting. I am now begining to think (rightly or wrongly) that the routers firmware has been compromised somehow and am now ready to trash the box and buy a new 3G router.
I was wondering if anyone could help with the following questions.
1) Has anyone else noticed this kind of problem with the Huawei D100 router, if so do you have a solution?
2) If all else fails I am going to buy a NEW 3G router, been looking at the Edimax 3G-6200n Wireless 3G Broadband Router, does anyone have any views, good or bad, on this router?
Sean.
