I'm reasonably happy with BT. Admittedly I'm on the forums looking for an alternate ISP in the UK but as you read through the other horror stories you begin to get the impression that they're not all that bad.
I will say I think they're expensive, and yes I don't think I've ever seen my 8mbit connection anywhere over 3mbit but at least its stable and allows me to play online at a very reasonable pace. If I do change, and the service I change to is better I'll post a reply to this. |

After nearly a year with BT ultimate Broardband and constantly having issues, losing connection a least a few times a day, all so getting speeds no where near what I'm paying for. So I will be leaving them at the end of my contract, as there are mant more providers that can offer me better for cheaper.

[QUOTE=Admin;49]Are you a BT customer?
Yes I have been a BT customer now for a few months(The worst few months ever!) I am classed as a high user and as such chose to go for the most expensive package they have option3 UNLIMITED! They tried charging me £107 pounds to become a customer which was hilarious..lmao Then they tried to rape my wifes bank account of £76..one disaster after another. I went and bought myself a top of the range tower for my Birthday pressie..lol.Every thing on it quad core processor 8 gb of ram 2 8800gtx graphics cards.ect.ect was trying to download the drivers for it and found that it took me 27 minutes to download a 57mb file! I rang them and got someone who could not speak english when I tried to explain my postcode phonetically When I got to the letter F foxtrot The guy put the phone down on me and I got a call back telling me that swearing at their staff would not be tolerated!!..lol Then they proceeded to tell me that I was using too much bandwidth and that they were throttling me back to 512kbps at most of the time after 4pm! When I explained that my son uses xbox 360 live they told me that, that went towards my download LIMIT( I thought I was paying for unlimited broadband)When I asked them AT WHAT POINT DO YOU CONSIDER ME TO BE A HEAVY USER? they replied that they couldnot give me a actual amout my reply was well how am I supposed to control my download limit if you don`t tell me how much I can use without being throttled? Their answer was this!!..pmsl We do not stop you from using you broadband we have to slow the speed of your line down in order to ensure you do not interupt otherpeoples usage of the internet! My Answer was this wait a minit why am I paying for MY line rental? WHY AM I PAYING FOR UNLIMITED DOWNLOADS? They said that they were not limiting my downloads! I said this!well if i download constantly at 4.5 meg (usual download speed) for example.ok?" yes!" and now I download constantly at 512 kbps I will not be able to download half as much there for you are resricting me.Their reply!.."no we are not!"go figure! |

I`ve been a BT Total Broadband customer for many years and my speed has mostly been between 4MB to 5MB, dropping to about 2MB after 4.pm and at odd times down to 1MB.
But since the end of November 2008 it has dropped quite frequently to less than ½MB and remained like this all day. Phone calls and emails to BT have resulted in not being able to understand the person at the call-centre, lack of reply emails. And the times when I`m able to understand the call-centre person(s) they keep asking me to do the same thing - disconnect the BT Hub and wait 2 to 5 minutes and reconnect. This has never rectified the problem, I`ve done an online check of my local telephone exchange (I live 353 yards from the exchange) and it all shows green for go. So to say that I`m not particularly happy with BT, mmmm. Today when I booted up my PC and logged onto BTYAHOO I checked again and I was receiving speed of 5MB, great I thought, but that lasted less than 10 minutes, and eventually dropped to less than 1MB. So how do I rate BT. Initially a very good service, but their customer care could be, well, a lot better, and the overseas call-centres don`t work. One other forum that I used to use (Administered by BT) I complained about BT speed and received a warning, informing me to stop complaining about BT or my account to BT would be cancelled immediately Nice world isn`t it |

Well, it`s still happening. Everyday at approx` the same time - 6.pm - my speed drops down to 0.54 or 0.58 and remains like that until about 01.45am.
I`m pretty sure that BT are capping me to give more download speed to BT Vision users. This happens every day and lasts all day at the weekends. I`ve emailed and phoned the useless call-centres all to no avail. I can`t wait until my contract with BT ends, then I`ll be able to get away from them and their useless customer non-service http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i1...ersub/10-1.gif

My experience with BT has been awful. I changed to BT (option 3) from Pipex when I moved house and it has been a catalogue of errors since then.
It took weeks to get me connected due to a problem with my phone line - I would spend ages on the phone each evening been talked thro various procedures which I knew were hopeless and I was constantly told that everything was fine and that I was in fact connected. After a few weeks I was finally visited by an engineer who found a problem with the incoming line which he rectified. My connection speed was 0.5 MB which I assumed was due to the distance of my exchange and I was just happy to be connected. After a few months I started getting billed for broadband talk which was included in the price. This was rectified and I was credited only for it to happen again a few months later. One day I was talking to someone who lived relatively nearby about poor speed only to find out he was getting in excess of something around 3MB. So I contacted BT only to find out that I was actually capped at 0.5 MB and that I was not on the upto 8MB option I had registered for and paid. This was attended to and my speed increased - however later I received notification of an additional broadband talk number, and received another modem. I phoned again to clarify the matter and was told that I would receive a sae jiffy bag to return the modem and as you can guess it never arrived. The additional broadband talk number was not activated. Recently my speed has deteriorated to the point where it is worse than my original 0.5MB connection - thoroughly fed up and having no faith in them I decided to go with O2. I registered with O2 and then asked BT for the mac address. But no I couldn't have it because: " I am sorry to hear that you wish to leave BT broadband however we must advise you that your broadband package is still under contract until the 24/08/09 and as such if you were to leave at this stage you would be charged for the remainder of this contract period plus a £45 early cancellation charge". Strange as I took out a the contract in 2006 for, I thought, 18 months. I phoned them and fortunately got connected with a sensible and helpful person. Between us we established that when I had previously complained about my speed I was put on a new contract - for asking to get what I originally ordered and paid for! Thankfully this was resolved and today is my first day with O2 and the difference is amazing. Sorry for the length of this post but it is a shortened version of events and I needed to get it off my chest!! |

Last night I had to telephone SKY and cancel my SKY-Player contract I had with them. Not due to any fault of SKY, the fault lay with useless BT and my nearly non-existent speed.
Wow did I get a shock when I phoned. I was expecting to be connected to a call-centre more or less like useless BT`s. But no, I was speaking to someone from Britain who spoke my language and was very calm and sensible - unlike BT call-centres. I explained why I was cancelling and he said I was not the first BT customer to cancel, for the same reasons as my own. And in 3 minutes he had cancelled the contract with no hassle or excuses, unlike BT`s terrible, awful customer-care. Thankyou SKY, I just wish BT had the same personal touch with THEIR customers.
