Bizarre - the second time I've had to post this since joining. Am I missing something somewhere? O2 is not owned by BT, nor has it been for years. Yes, it came out of the old BT Cellnet but that years ago. They are now owned by Telefonica.

BT entered into a joint venture with a German energy company, Viag Interkom, (as well as other European companies) in order to compete in the German telecoms market.

The mobile phone business of BT demerged in 2001 and the joint venture became known as O2 Germany before eventually being sold to a Spanish company, Telefonica.
